A lovely spot in Suffolk

We arrived on site after a very wet period of weather and so were pitched on a gravel based hardstanding rather the pretty pitches shown on the club website. We had no issue with being on the H/S as the grass and ground wouldn't have taken the units. The drive in from the turn off the Snape to Orford road is, or could be, rather hair-raising. It's just over 1 mile down a country lane that does have several passing places, which would be fine if all that you met were cars. However there is a supplier of Turf, amongst other things, just passed the CL and you could quite easily meet a flatback lorry full of turf coming towards you. Just be aware, particularly on those stretches of road which are not straight, of which there are a few. We never encountered one but another member did and was fortunate that there was a place with 2 passing places opposite each other. The site itself is very pleasant as are the amenable owners. The owner did say that he intends to improve the delineation of the Hardstanding pitches, as at present they are difficult to find as some grass has grown into them. 2 of these pitches are not level but fine for caravans. The water point is sited near the pond and rubbish bins at the entrance to the site with recycling provided. The Elsan point is around the rear if the owners house near the next field. It is straightforward, having 2 steel handles to help lift the grid cover for emptying into the main sewer. This is an agricultural area and as such you should expect to hear plenty of early and late tractor noise. Dog walkers can access a quiet lane, Sandy Lane, opposite the CL which leads down to a FP. The road outside leads down to Orford, about 5 miles, or back to Snape, about 2 miles. You can access Tunstall Forest quite easily for more dog walking or walk up passed the road leading to Iken Church (well worth a visit) and turn right along a FP down to the Alde estuary where, tide permitting, you can walk to Snape Maltings. Sutton Hoo is nearby as is Aldeburgh and Minsmere an easy 15 minute drive away. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Yes, a lovely peaceful spot

I stayed here last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm sure I'll be back. This is a very pretty area, which we had driven past to get to Snape and Aldeburgh on previous visits, and it's well-worth exploring. The lovely Tunstall forest is very close, as is the river, and the local roads were great for cycling in the sunshine down to the cafe on the quay at Orford. This site doesn't have a pub, shop or restaurant on the doorstep, so you will need to drive or cycle for provisions. I found all I needed in Orford, in the friendly little tardis that is the village store, and the cafes and pubs there. (For good food, I recommend the Crown & Castle). The pub at Snape Maltings also did a jolly good lunch. The site also has no washing-up facilities; something to be aware of if you're in a smaller unit like mine. But as others have said, it's got a lovely combined bathroom and shower room. You need £1 for the shower, but that gets you a luxurious 10 mins in pleasant surroundings! There is just the one bathroom, but it's a small site so I imagine you would seldom have to wait for it. All in all, one of my favourite small sites, and I look forward to returning with wife and dog after my initial solo reconnaissance!

It was a joy to stay at Tumbleweed - we will be back!

Just spent three lovely nights on this CL. The site is immaculate, the facilities spotless and the location is fabulous for exploring. Only a 10 minute walk to the footpath which takes you right around the estuary to Snape Maltings, idyllic and wonderful for walkers and birdwatchers. During our stay we visited Snape Maltings, Woodbridge and the ever evolving Sutton Hoo - all so easy to get to from Tumbleweed. Good value for money - we will be back thankyou.

Lovely Site

A lovely site with good facilities and an ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas of Aldeburgh, Southwold, Woodbridge, Orford and Snape. Good area for cycling too. Owners very friendly and helpful. Many of the other people staying were repeat bookings and we will be joining them. Happy to recommend and its definitely on our list of sites to return to.
