Great little site

Robertson Lane Farm
We stayed here for 3 nights when on our way north, and then again for 1 night when heading back south. It is perfectly placed for visiting Stirling and it's historic sites (a short drive). The owner could not be more obliging and friendly. He went out of his way to help with finding a spot to pitch on which was not boggy (there had been a lot of rain during the run-up to our visits). We had no problems getting our motorhome on and off, although you do have to be careful to avoid some boggy areas. The site has a nice open feel, with views of hills and distant mountains. The track leading to the site does have potholes, it is after all a farm track, you simply have to drive very slowly, but it is only a short distance, so we could see no problem with this. We would definitely use this site again.

Basic site, that could do with a bit of work

Robertson Lane Farm
this site is very basic, it is a farmers field, with EHU down one fence, for the toilet emptying you have to walk all the way round the farm house to the back, it had rained the day before we arrived, and there was several points on the field that were quite boggy, and at one point we did wonder if we were going to get the van stuck trying to get off the field to fill up with water, as pointed out in another review, the road to the site has some quite big pot holes, I wouldn't quite go as far as the biggest in england (especially as this site is in scotland ;) ) but it definitely rocked the van quite a bit, would we stop here again? possibly yes, it gives good access to Stirling, the Safari park is just at the end of the next road but I think next time it would be with the caravan and a 4X4.

Great base

Robertson Lane Farm
This is a nice site. Easy to get just off the motorway. Access is fine and not pot holed at all. Great views and a good base for safari park, Falkirk wheel Stirling castle etc. Cows can be noisy but quiet at night. I would have liked to be able to sluice out my toilet after emptying but no water provided there.

Pros: quiet, views. Cons: poorly maintained and rough access

Robertson Lane Farm
We’ve used this CL twice: June 2005 and June 2012. In 2005 the weather had been dry to the field was firm. In 2012 it had been dry for weeks until the day before we arrived when it had rained heavily. After just one day the field was soft in many places. The CL was maintained to a better standard in 2005 compared to 2012: grass too long. But the worst point (both visits) is the access road: the deepest potholes in Britain. We had to negotiate it at much slower than walking pace but even then the van was thrown about. There are a few properties down this lane so the residents’ cars must be rattled to pieces. On our last visit I saw a mound of chippings which I assume were for the potholes. We were only there overnight but if we’d have been longer I would have gladly spent my time filling the potholes. There are pleasant views from the CL and it is handy for Stirling and the motorway. But that rough track means I won’t risk our van again on it so won’t be visiting this CL again.
