Why stay here ...

Underwood Caravan Park is a secluded caravan site with 5 pitches nestled close to the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal which runs from Bowling to Edinburgh. We are the closest CL park to the Falkirk Wheel and this can easily be reached by a 5 minute car drive or a 20 minute cycle ride along the canal towpath.

At the Falkirk Wheel there is access to a variety of cycle paths. The Kelpies can also be reached by bike taking approximately 40 minutes or a short drive by car. The caravan park is a convenient stop off point if you are travelling from England to go further north as we are 5 minutes off junction 7 of the M80.

There is a selection of restaurants and local shops within easy reach of the park.

Second visit and not the last!

Underwood Caravan Park
First stop on our Six week tour of Scotland, need to break the journey. Just a few mins off motorway.Stayed here last year, whilst care needs to be taken to access the site, its perfectly doable. Lovely clean tidy site, good hard standing , spacious, and water tap on each pitch. Welcoming owners. Great for dogs as the canal path is just behind site. If you are up to it you can walk or cycle to The Falkirk Wheel 3.5 miles. Quite a bit further to the Kelpies . They are both only a short drive away . Well worth seeing, the Kelpies at night are stunning. We visited both last year. Lots of supermarkets and eateries a short drive away. A really good site, for many reasons. Underwood CL

Lovely quiet few days

Underwood Caravan Park
We had a lovely five night stay at this site. Welcomed by the owner, site is clean and very well kept with a little information hut of leaflets for things to do in the surrounding area. Great to have towpath walk just up from the site for the dogs. Close for visiting the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies, our main reason for visit to this area. Read information regarding approach to site or you might get caught out with the tight bridge.

Lovely CL

Underwood Caravan Park
Great site - the (almost) perfect CL. Lots to like about this site and very little to dislike. Great for cyclists or kayakers. The site is very well kept and all the pitches are hardstanding and each pitch has its own tap. You may need blocks and ramps on some pitches but its not a major problem. If you can book a canal side pitch as you will get views over to Longcroft. Site is very peaceful although there is a smidgen of noise from the road the other side of the canal but its not particularly noticeable. Bonnybridge shops are about a 20 min walk along the tarmaced towpath. Kelpies and Falkirk wheel can both be accessed from the towpath if you have bicycles (no need to go on a road) or fancy a walk. Rough castle is definitely worth a visit. You can cycle or walk from the Falkirk wheel to Rough castle via a new (but stoney) footpath (the path is signposted or just follow John Muir way signs). Can't say what tv reception was like as I didn't try it. There is a very good Chinese take-away in Longcroft which I wished I had visited but didn't get a chance (owner will give you the details). Be careful with the postcode and sat navs. Google directions were fine but my in-car sat nav took me to the wrong side of the canal so double check before you get near. I would definitly look at the approach road on google street view (because the road is little used its easy to think you have gone the wrong way). On the approach road. there is a nasty bend at the bridge but there was a large two wheeled caravan on site so it must be possible to get over even with large caravans if you are careful. The site has large double gates which you open when you get there which does give it a feeling of privacy and security. Its a nice site which is only a mile or so from the motorway so it is a great stopover point for those heading North or South or for a longer stay if you want to explore Falkirk, Edinburgh, Stirling or Glasgow. I hope to stay again in the future.

Peaceful CL

Underwood Caravan Park
We spent 3 nights at this very peaceful cl in June in our motorhome. As mentioned in other reviews, the lane approaching is a little tight but not a real problem. We took advantage of the lovely weather (sunny and hot) and cycled along the towpath to the Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies - both well worth a visit. Glasgow is very doable by bus (stop at the end of the lane on the main road). The chinese restaurant is a walkable distance and is excellent value for money. Helen is a very welcoming host and the site is well looked after. The location is ideal for both exploring the area and as a stop off if travelling further north into Scotland.

A lovely CL with easy canal access

Underwood Caravan Park
Access - Following the instructions in the handbook, the site is easy enough to find, but the turning would otherwise be easy to miss, look out for the caravan 'signpost' (not a CAMC logo one). The track leading to the site is a bit rough and narrow, with an awkward bridge half way along, which with a long outfit needs to be taken carefully and exited wide. The owner kindly popped out and opened the metal gates into the CL for us as we arrived and gave us a nice welcome. Site - The pitches are all hard standing, and well spaced, with plenty of room to reverse onto the pitches. Facilities - water at each pitch and easy to reach EHU. Grey waste, bins and discreet and under cover CDP in a neat area at the far end of the site. Area - lots to do here, we only had 2 days, but walked from the site to the nearby Seabegs Woods, where the Antonine wall and Roman road are very obvious [HINT walk from the site, turn left along tthe towpath for 1km (looking right across the canal and road, you will see the entrance to the woods) drop left off the towpath down a little track that doubles back and there is an underpass that goes under the road and canal to bring you out in the woods. It also carries a stream, so good footwear is advised, although there is a raised central walkway, so it's not a paddle!] The Kelpies are well worth a visit, especially at night, parking is free after 5pm, but you need to park in the overnight area, as the gates to the main car park shut at 8pm. we kayaked from the site the 4 mniles up to the Falkirk Wheel, which is worth a visit and has family activities on site as well. The canal towpath is metres from the site gates and there's a pontoon a few metres up towards the lock, making it ideal to launch kayaks/paddleboards. A really nice, well looked after site, with lots to do in the area, definitley recommended. .
