Heaven on Earth

Modbury Club Campsite
We ended up here completely unplanned. After an unfortunate issue at the Plymouth sound campsite which resulted in us leaving after 10 minutes we ended up here.. The staff are 1 word …amazing ! They not only booked us in but also managed to move my booking from one site to this one so I didn’t lose out. If you have dogs this site has the biggest secure dog excersise area I’ve ever seen. If you have kids id has an equally impressive area for them to play. The site is well kept and so peaceful. Don’t let the fact its a little drive to anywhere put you off .. the quiet is well worth it.. i could stay there for a week no problem at all.. Can’t thank the site staff enough for the help they gave us and i will definitely be back. Ps we were in a 7.4 m motorhome and the access was no issue at all…

Plymouth alternative

Modbury Club Campsite
Needed an alternative to Plymouth Sound and chose Modbury. Like others say, final approach with caravan needs care, bit once on site you are guaranteed a warm welcome, even a guided tour. All roads around the area are to be taken steadily, so once your caravan is pitched, get out and enjoy the local area just take your time, or just stay on site for piece and quiet.

Thank you for a great visit

Modbury Club Campsite
Have just made my first visit to the site and thought it was simply outstanding. While the facilities are rather dated, they are kept scrupulously clean by the wardens, Debbie and Richard. The wardens are among the best I have ever come across and they keep the site in pristine condition. The grass is beautifully kept and I just wish my lawns at home were of a comparable standard.! The wardens are generally freely available, always happy to chat and to help. I have noted from earlier reviews that some visitors found the approach roads difficult. I have a motorhome and found it relatively straightforward. Before visiting a new site, I always study the maps and then use 'street view' to do a 'virtual' run from a main road to the site. I didn't think access to this site was any more difficult than others I have visited. Thank you Richard and Debbie for a super visit. I'll be back! Mike Smith

Poor road access

Modbury Club Campsite
This is a nice site with excellent wardens but I would not go here again with a motorhome and certainly not a caravan as the road access is not good. Yes its doable but getting to and from site can be stressful. This site in my opinion would be best served as a static site or glamping site so the only access is via car. The roads are not suitable for large vehicles. The road is single track in many places with high banks and bushes. This means you cannot see what is coming before you have committed and the distance to be traveled on such roads is 3+ miles. So be sure you are comfortable with reversing caravans and motorhomes over a distance in narrow sections. Meeting other large vehicles happened to us several times and I had to back up several times up to 100 meters as the the lorries and tractors we met were not moving. It seems that if there is an issue on the A38 that traffic is diverted or sat navs direct traffic down these unsuitable roads toward the site which makes access to and from the site even harder. You can get to the site from Loddiswell but this road is not any better or worse. The road from Modbury is not suitable at all. If you do get to site, I think the best way to get around if using a motorhome is by electric bicycle (or motorbike) as most of the attractions are reachable with these. Furthermore, parking a motorhome in south Devon is difficult at best. South Devon does not appear to be motorhome friendly. I met several motorhomers who said the same and who would not be coming to Devon again.
