Covid 19 and membership

As all sites and CC approved sites have been suspended for 3 months (30th June) are we to expect the CMHC to suspend all memberships for 3 months.? My membership is due in July so I'm a bit loathed to not be able to use it and go anywhere only to be hit with a renewal as the suspension is lifted.

Both clubs as many "clubs" through out the UK,  that we pay a membership fee to  join ,are in the same position , as with having to close to protect their members from those who consider themselves "imune" from any requests /advise, at this very dangerous  for many time,

And as far as i am concerned all we can do to save the our clubs is Fine by me and i would think apart from "those who walk amongst us" and are in denial about what is happening , i expect to be in the real world and "forfit?" the part of the membership fee i cannot use

I don't have any problem with paying the membership fee in this crisis, for this and the other club, which we joined recently. Hopefully it will help them weather the crisis. In the scheme of things, storage costs, road fund tax, tracker subscription, insurance, servicing  and depreciation. As part of our yearly ownership costs, it is not worth worrying about.

This crisis is going to hit each and every one of us financially in various ways. Prices will rise and savings rates have already been cut. I expect taxes to rise and feel we aint seen nuffin yet. In the grand scheme of things, a few months of lost membership fee is neither here nor there.

I cannot believe that some people are so selfish, and if all they have to worry about is the paltry amount of £13.50 unusable membership fee. People are dying in the hundreds each day and I am sure the last thing of their minds would be worrying about not being able to use their caravan club membership for three months. Like many others, we are fully abiding by the government recommendations and looking forward to returning to our hobby later in the year. In the meantime the garden and allotment will keep us busy. We live by the Lincolnshire coast and are hoping that all caravan sites/ camps are closed otherwise we could be inundated with people from outside our area coming in,spreading the disease and putting even more strain on our local NHS services

I suspect, or at least hope that the OP has posted tongue in cheek.

At least here is a thread on which we can all, I hope agree. I shan't be asking the NT or the bowls club or the RSPB or any othe organisations I support for a refund on any part of my membership fee. I think, as others have said,  the important thing is that all these clubs and organisations survive beyond this current crisis.

For those worrying about the loss of membership fees, here's a cheery thought ...

A report last week said that the collapse of Thomas Cook had cost each taxpayer some £1,056, IIRC. This was based on a net cost of about £156 million.

The financial support to the UK economy during the Coronavirus sits so far at £330 billion. Without calculating the cost to the last penny, it's roughly 2 million times greater than the Thomas Cook bill ... That'll be a wee bit more than £1,056 each for our individual taxpayer's tab[he says with some understatement], so losing £54 membership doesn't even register!

And ifyou think that a tab of £330 billion is bad, spare a thought for the Americans. Their rescue package [which is still being negotiated] is currently set at $4 trillion, but that's in dollars, so presently less than £4 trillion ....

I think some on here need to reprioritise what is important at this time.  I want to come through this alive and then continue to enjoy my hobby.  If the club collapses that would be a blow to 10s of thousands of us members

Steve,

I agree with most of your sentiments.

Take comfort from the fact that it hasn't "added £27 per night to the cost" of your stays. If you hadn't been members and the sites you stayed on accepted non-members you would have paid £12 extra per night as non-members over the price you actually paid.

As you appreciate you will have membership when the crisis is over.

You also have a comprehensive book of sites and will receive a year's editions of the magazine.

Anyone want to buy my 2020 ACSI cardinnocent, bought from the club but I won't attempt to process a refund on the grounds I was mis-sold wink

Why should the Club suspend membership?

Are you a member of other organisations such as The National Trust or English Heritage? If so, are you wanting them to suspend your membership? (Their properties are currently closed.)

You say you are "loathed to not be able to use it and go anywhere". Do you really want to go  anywhere onto any caravan site at the moment?

Is your motorhome covered by Mayday? If so, that will continue to be covered. I appreciate that you will have paid a premium for that cover but what is provided has been negotiated by CAMC and offers a better level of cover than the usual Green Flag policy.

As your membership won't be suspended you will presumably continue to receive the Club magazine for those three months. (Whether you like the magazine or not it does cost something to produce.)

You comment about being "hit with a renewal as the suspension is lifted". How is this a hit when you will be getting 12 months membership for that renewal?

Of course, you do not have to renew your membership - that is your choice.

The other responses on this thread would seem to indicate that you are  in the minority with your view. After reading your post, I find that encouraging.
