Membership fees and request by Club to continue

Today I received an email as most likely all club members have regarding the Membership Fees and the request that we consider continuning membership.

I/we support that request and for the following reasons:

I/we have been members for a few years now, we have enjoyed the membership, the sites and facilities along with the website and whilst we haven't always agreed with some of the site policies we have continued our membership.

These are tough times for us all and on so many different levels and whilst I do understand that it is a question of prioritising where finances are concerned (same for us) we feel that the club has benefited us greatly over the term of our membership, we're kind of proud to be a part of it.

Businesses like individuals will be hard pressed in the months to come, the Club did not get to where it is now by shrinking from it's responsibilities, neither did it get there by complacency, it got there by virtue of it's management making good decisions, by taking action when it needed to and importantly because of it's loyal members, combine the two and you can see why it's a club to stay with and continue to stay with.

In short, for us personally we will continue to pay our membership/remain a member, we won't be asking for refunds, reductions or extensions , we feel that the best support we can give the club right now is to continue our subscription throughout this terrible situation we all find ourselves in.

Of course, how we proceed won't be everyones cup of tea but in some sense diversity can add cohesion. Please keep in mind that whilst our stance may not be yours, it is ours and we like you have the ability to choose which way we're going.

We hope to holiday later in the year by taking up our annual booking, but if we are unable to because we're still in quarantine, well we can't, nothing we can do about it, it's 'life' ....which right now seems more precious than ever.

The reality might be that for a certain segment of the population whether any club extends its membership could be academic because some of us may be asked to remain in isolation long after campsite reopens?

The way things are going ,and even talk of the "hospitality" side of the UK economy not being able to reopen until the winter,  ,It will be a very difficult time for several more months yet,  before any of the sites of any organisation start to be allowed to open  , There will be some very difficult decisions yet to be made   ,rather than the "knee jerk" that some have made with an open ended extention of membershipssurprised

I don't think it was a knee jerk re-action JVB from the C&CC, obviously a lot of thought has gone into keeping the membership on board, along with a detailed communication about what has been done and allowing flexible bookings into 2021 (like CAMC.) The two clubs have approached it differently lets hope it works for both of them.

I am quite happy with the C&CC extension. Especially as I only joined to give us access to 4 sites, for our now defunct May tour. We don't use them for any other services, so won't be utilising them at all for our first year of membership. I have asked them to transfer the bookings and deposits to the same dates next year, but so far have heard nothing.

I wonder what happens if campsites are closed for longer than the initial three months? Does the C&CC have an open ended position where by membership is put off until sites actually reopen which could of course start to seriously damage their finances. Perhaps  this is one of the reasons the CMC have gone down the route they have as it allows them to defer making a decision on membership extensions until they know what they are letting themselves in for? Just a theory.

I think you have to remember with the C&CC that forward bookings bring an income supply from deposits so it might be a bit pushy to ask for membership payments as well? Who knows yet whether any bookings will be fulfilled. But they are also being flexible with the bookings (if you read their covd19 information pages and DGs letter.)

The e mail we got said the extension of membership would be equal to the time that sites were closed.

A lot of management speak in the last few posts. frown I guess we will not be imformed of the Clubs strategy for getting through this, don't even know if wardens are on full pay or some percentage or even who is or isn't working? Has the Club council meet in emergency session or are decisions being made by a few? I cannot imagine the DG has a free rein on this?

We can only assume what is happening, rightly or wrongly, from snipettes of policy

It has been made clear that most employees, including wardens of course, have now been put on the Governments' (tax payers') 80% payment structure. this does not apply, apparently, to the higher paid executives of the club, we don't seem to have any information as to their stance.

I assume CCC is a typo in the penultimate sentence, Alan.

You seem determined to cull CAMC management and, although I'll not defend them regardless of their actions - some of which have been poorly judged, I fail to see why you take such a stance.

The thing to do, if you feel change is necessary, is to stand for membership of the Club Council from which position you will be able to campaign for what you want and influence the decision making process. Have you put yourself forward for election?

I do make mistakes - It's called being human.

To answer your queries in turn:

I take my stance because I find it distasteful that the  highly paid* leaders can state "we're all in this together' whilst apparently continuing to take their high ( and hidden) incomes whilst throwing the others, such as site wardens, onto the taxpayers' cost..

I don't want to stand, and won't stand, for membership, neither should I. I'm like many members, not in the first flush of youth, and my wife (late 70's) has a heart problem, with an operation for that a few weeks ago, some things are more important than others.
So don't tell me 'the thing to do' - I've been there, and done it in the past, from Parish councillor to Magistrate and charity worker, and much as it might, annoy you - I am fully entitled to my opinion.
