Membership fees and request by Club to continue

Today I received an email as most likely all club members have regarding the Membership Fees and the request that we consider continuning membership.

I/we support that request and for the following reasons:

I/we have been members for a few years now, we have enjoyed the membership, the sites and facilities along with the website and whilst we haven't always agreed with some of the site policies we have continued our membership.

These are tough times for us all and on so many different levels and whilst I do understand that it is a question of prioritising where finances are concerned (same for us) we feel that the club has benefited us greatly over the term of our membership, we're kind of proud to be a part of it.

Businesses like individuals will be hard pressed in the months to come, the Club did not get to where it is now by shrinking from it's responsibilities, neither did it get there by complacency, it got there by virtue of it's management making good decisions, by taking action when it needed to and importantly because of it's loyal members, combine the two and you can see why it's a club to stay with and continue to stay with.

In short, for us personally we will continue to pay our membership/remain a member, we won't be asking for refunds, reductions or extensions , we feel that the best support we can give the club right now is to continue our subscription throughout this terrible situation we all find ourselves in.

Of course, how we proceed won't be everyones cup of tea but in some sense diversity can add cohesion. Please keep in mind that whilst our stance may not be yours, it is ours and we like you have the ability to choose which way we're going.

We hope to holiday later in the year by taking up our annual booking, but if we are unable to because we're still in quarantine, well we can't, nothing we can do about it, it's 'life' ....which right now seems more precious than ever.

I think the voucher "offer" is much the same as the deposit system with the other club. Both are asking for money up front for something not available at present, the club offers some money back and the C&CC defers membership payment. In reality anyone taking up the voucher offer or making a deposit hasn't got anything in return.

The C&CC put out a good account of what's happening due to Covid19 via a pdf letter, CAMC put out an "address." The approaches were certainly different but at present the outcome is the same, sites are closed. So it's an individual choice whether to continue membership payments.

I think CAMC have made mistakes but I'm not convinced C&CC is any better. We're in previously unknown territory at present and I consider it far too soon to make an overall judgement on either club or my future in them or, indeed, for the clubs to decide if membership extension/voucher offers is a wise move.

For any of us to base a hasty decision on speculation and unknown factors seems rather rash at this stage. In my opinion it needs time to let this situation play out in order to make a rational decision.

I'm more concerned with survival than with club doings at present. That comes way down the list of priorities.

Not sure what you mean or intend to imply when you write 'in a more open way', I don't think I've hidden my thoughts on this matter! The 'more openess' I would like to see is, for example, where our money is going when I look at the large (in pension payments very very large) pro rata discrepancies in wage bills between the 2 organisations. When this club refuses (and I have asked under FOI) for how large these payments are, this has been refused. Sure, it could be modesty in that the DG etc are taking very little, which might explain why he needs 3 other directorships - but I would like to know, after all, this IS 'OUR' club, isn't it?

Whilst accepting that the lack of response by CMC to a membership extension is questionable, I feel trying to use the FOI act to obtain financial information on certain executives going way too far . Turn that scenario on its head ,I'm sure you wouldn't be best pleased if CMC wanted to know your financial details as it was considering means testing members and then charge pitch fees accordingly..

Surviving this virus is uppermost in my mind at the moment. I shall take stock of memberships if I do. I am going to do some research on what age being a curmudgeon kicks in as well, then try and get the antidote!😁

Hey TDA, if you do find an antidote please let us all know what it is.wink

The membership renewal is not an issue for me as we had decided at the end of last season that the time had come to give up touring after 40 happy years. The only problem I have is that the lockdown has meant I cannot advertise my caravan as was originally planned; also I will have to renew my insurance that expires in May.frown

These are an inconvenience and will involve some extra costs but as long as all my family get through this in good health I will count myself lucky.smile

Sorry to hear you’re giving up, Nevers, but it comes to us all eventually.

All the best.

Thanks TW, my timing could have been better though.undecided

In February I booked three holidays in static caravans and paid a deposit for each one. If it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all.laughing
