Membership fees and request by Club to continue

Today I received an email as most likely all club members have regarding the Membership Fees and the request that we consider continuning membership.

I/we support that request and for the following reasons:

I/we have been members for a few years now, we have enjoyed the membership, the sites and facilities along with the website and whilst we haven't always agreed with some of the site policies we have continued our membership.

These are tough times for us all and on so many different levels and whilst I do understand that it is a question of prioritising where finances are concerned (same for us) we feel that the club has benefited us greatly over the term of our membership, we're kind of proud to be a part of it.

Businesses like individuals will be hard pressed in the months to come, the Club did not get to where it is now by shrinking from it's responsibilities, neither did it get there by complacency, it got there by virtue of it's management making good decisions, by taking action when it needed to and importantly because of it's loyal members, combine the two and you can see why it's a club to stay with and continue to stay with.

In short, for us personally we will continue to pay our membership/remain a member, we won't be asking for refunds, reductions or extensions , we feel that the best support we can give the club right now is to continue our subscription throughout this terrible situation we all find ourselves in.

Of course, how we proceed won't be everyones cup of tea but in some sense diversity can add cohesion. Please keep in mind that whilst our stance may not be yours, it is ours and we like you have the ability to choose which way we're going.

We hope to holiday later in the year by taking up our annual booking, but if we are unable to because we're still in quarantine, well we can't, nothing we can do about it, it's 'life' ....which right now seems more precious than ever.

Hello, lovely to hear from you😁 That is bad timing, but I suspect touring might be seen as a safe option for holidays eventually, so you never know, it might be you get a better price for your van. We know of some great cottages and places to stay, dog friendly, so don’t hesitate to contact me if you want some information.👍

Regards to you both xx

Thank you all for your best wishes, even though I haven’t posted for quite a while. It’s so good to know that CT still has some friendly understanding members.smile

Thanks for the offer TDA and best wishes from us to your family.xx

To a certain extent, I think all the jibing and nastyness to each other is unwarranted and we should all be acting iike grown ups and not like children.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we are supposed to be a democratic  country which practices "freedom of speech".

That said, this is not just a case of supporting the C&MC, there are other considerations, eg. can people afford to take a loss, will some of us still be here when all this is over and, if we are, will we still be able to afford to use our vans and motorhomes. We are not all in the financial position that some of our "members" seem to be in.  This is supposed to be a Club run by its "members" but it seems to be that its members are being ignored.

I, too, believe that the Club should extend membership for the period of time members in the club are unable to use their vans/motorhomes and the club facilities, ie the period of lockdown.

If its a question of club employees pay, then the Government has offered options for businesses to claim.  I do not believe that the Club is in a bad financial position at the moment, but I do think that - like most of the other organisations in similar situations - members in the Club should receive an extension to their subscription period,  particularly those who have paid their subscription already. It could be 6 months or more before the lockdown is finished for some of us. I cannot see many members whose subscriptions are due paying their subscriptions in this situation, so the rest of us are to be penalised.

Yes, those running the club have been voted in at some time or other, but they are supposed to be looking after the interests of  ALL those paying their wages and the overall effect this will have on the club in the long term.

I can honestly say that the club will, in my opinion, loose members over this and I have no doubt that when this is over,  the Club will put up site fees immediately to help replenish the coffers.

I will renew my membership,if it keeps someone in a job that's fine by me. It's been said that this crisis will bring us together... rubbish! Britain is full of selfish people, just look around you in the supermarket. I'm no Ty bothered by an extension to my membership either,my focus is on my family all coming through this,we all need to shape up.

It appears the Camping and Caravan Club is extending members membership of the time their sites are closed. Our Club is having government aid for the furloughed staff therefore the members should have the same surely. Postpone some developments for a year to help. Come on Club - do the right thing

Don’t forget the voucher offer from this club.

Govt aid for a membership extension?🤔

As I said before, the 'right thing' is subjective depending on your point of view and circumstances.

I would think that the ccc have many site staff and HO staff furloughed as well

Btw, I’ve read on another forum that it’s not the current C&CC membership year that's being extended and renewals will still need to be paid if they fall due during the shutdown. The extension will apply to the following year once they know how long sites are closed for. It doesn’t sound quite as good as many folk anticipated. The T&Cs clarify the position.

I would think that as with this club , there are very few staff not "working from home" or furloughed ,so as with this club , would be quite difficult to amend any of their systems,   especially as "no one really knows "what the end result will be When? things improve enough to start getting back to some form of what the future will hold

"What the end result will be" is the key. They cannot know by how long to extend membership until sites re-open. Therefore, it's obvious the membership year cannot be extended at present but I’m sure a lot of folk were expecting their current year to be extended.

TW,

The First Minister was asked today by a journalist why Event Organisers were selling tickets for Music Festivals/Gigs for later this year. She replied with an unequivocal 'nobody should expect any form of large gathering of groups of people for this year'. She acknowledged that it was easier to say what could not happen [as of now] rather than speculate on what might happen and when.

There is also the CAMC members' reluctance, expressed in another thread, of 'not in a rush to be first one to travel [sic] to a site'. We can't expect the Club to cover this 'period of reluctance'. There are so many variables and uncertainties that it's perhaps easiest for the Club to just hope that Members will renew their membership.

My position remains that my priority continues to be emerging unscathed so that I will have the choice on whether to renew. I doubt that the Club will want to write to me c/o a Box Number sealed
