Membership fees and request by Club to continue

Today I received an email as most likely all club members have regarding the Membership Fees and the request that we consider continuning membership.

I/we support that request and for the following reasons:

I/we have been members for a few years now, we have enjoyed the membership, the sites and facilities along with the website and whilst we haven't always agreed with some of the site policies we have continued our membership.

These are tough times for us all and on so many different levels and whilst I do understand that it is a question of prioritising where finances are concerned (same for us) we feel that the club has benefited us greatly over the term of our membership, we're kind of proud to be a part of it.

Businesses like individuals will be hard pressed in the months to come, the Club did not get to where it is now by shrinking from it's responsibilities, neither did it get there by complacency, it got there by virtue of it's management making good decisions, by taking action when it needed to and importantly because of it's loyal members, combine the two and you can see why it's a club to stay with and continue to stay with.

In short, for us personally we will continue to pay our membership/remain a member, we won't be asking for refunds, reductions or extensions , we feel that the best support we can give the club right now is to continue our subscription throughout this terrible situation we all find ourselves in.

Of course, how we proceed won't be everyones cup of tea but in some sense diversity can add cohesion. Please keep in mind that whilst our stance may not be yours, it is ours and we like you have the ability to choose which way we're going.

We hope to holiday later in the year by taking up our annual booking, but if we are unable to because we're still in quarantine, well we can't, nothing we can do about it, it's 'life' ....which right now seems more precious than ever.

And the same goes for me too, Nevers. All the best for the future.

Hey TDA, if you do find an antidote please let us all know what it is.wink

The membership renewal is not an issue for me as we had decided at the end of last season that the time had come to give up touring after 40 happy years. The only problem I have is that the lockdown has meant I cannot advertise my caravan as was originally planned; also I will have to renew my insurance that expires in May.frown

These are an inconvenience and will involve some extra costs but as long as all my family get through this in good health I will count myself lucky.smile

Hello, lovely to hear from you😁 That is bad timing, but I suspect touring might be seen as a safe option for holidays eventually, so you never know, it might be you get a better price for your van. We know of some great cottages and places to stay, dog friendly, so don’t hesitate to contact me if you want some information.👍

Regards to you both xx

It's always a bit sad when one comes to the end of an era. It was a bit of a wrench when I finally gave up sailing. At least the motorhome requires slightly less maintenance and in some ways replicates cruising, albeit on dry land. All the best Nevers.

Nevers - we made the same decision last year,  also after 40 ish years of touring, first tenting and then in the van. Quite a wrench but, to be honest, getting on for £1000 storage, insurance and service annually meant that it just wasn't financially sensible to continue. We do have the static in Cornwall (when we can use it!) to fall back on,  but we've also decided that cottages are the way to go for us now.

So still able to get out and about (eventually) and probably a bit further afield without having to tow.  All the best! smile

Thanks TW, my timing could have been better though.undecided

In February I booked three holidays in static caravans and paid a deposit for each one. If it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all.laughing

Goes to show that Old Caravanners never die they just go Static.

Good luck. We've still got the "L" plates after having only 31 years.

I understand the request.  The Club could well cease to exist after this crisis if it continues.

Nonetheless, sad though that might be, I cannot justify paying membership when we cannot use our van.  Indeed, many members might have to give up their vans if this continues.

My membership does not expire just now, however, so I don't have to make a decision until November.  Who knows, we might be able to camp then!

Personally, I am not expecting that.

This I understand.

Using camp sites makes camping more expensive than taking a holiday in the sun!

Of course, the CL sites are much cheaper, and mostly very nice.

Our plan is to head for that sun, though...
