How popular?

I keep looking at this section and notice how popular it obviously is ..... last post about 4 months ago. Time for deletion maybe & that will be a step towards tidying the rest of the forum up a bit

As Malcom actually posted a question about what this section is intended for. The first since October 2015, I felt he should be encouraged. If the section is being used, I have no problem with it remaining open.

Malcolm

Having had a few poles bent on large frame tents, by high winds, over the years. How do the inflatables handle a gale. Do they get pushed in much, or do they retain their shape

Write your comments here...We did have some windy conditions, SteveL, and were pitched in an exposed area. However, there was no problem with the tent. It's a dome shaped tent which perhaps works better in those conditions. There's a lounge area in the front with a large bay window and two double bedrooms at the back.

It might be useful to expand the section to include tents.

Trailer tents are very different and don't need to use the tent area as Malcolm suggests. They are allowed on all sites, owners of TTs can become members and they can use any pitch they choose.

Tents are different but rather than setting up another section that will be lightly used discussion may fit in this section

edit - I see it already includes camping

That's very magnanimous of you, Steve.

It is Trailer Tents and Camping so, to my mind, any tent issues fit nicely in here.

Edit: We are of one mind!

After recently joining the club I now feel discouraged and unwanted. I have in the past been a caravan owning member but having retired we have downsized to a folding camper, which I was assured by CC head office was very welcome on all sites the same as a caravan. It's a shame some members feel the need to look down on us and wish us to be removed from the club. Having said that the many people we have spoken to on various sites have been very friendly and welcoming.....obviously MM was not one of them.

Really sorry that you feel unwelcome, Michael.  I, like others, came to caravanning via the Trailer Tent route, and look back with fondness of those days, so please don't feel bad - not everyone feels negative towards Trailer tents on CAMC sites.  I can see the day when we could see Trailer Tents regain popularity, especially with the move towards smaller, greener vehicles.  Perhaps we could be seeing more of Trailer Tents and smaller units on our sites in the future.

I’ve not changed my views in the last 3+ years so come on in and get posting, Michael.

Did anyone suggest removing trailer tents from the club? I think it was more an oddball suggestion that this section of the forum be closed but, as you can see, it hasn’t happened.

Enjoy your trips!

I can’t see why anyone would look down on trailer tents.  I’m sure a great many vanners came up by camping and trailer tenting.  I find trailer tents fascinating especially watching them being erected and packed away.  Over there we’ve often pitched next to them and boy aren’t some of them palatial with a couple of awning on them.

Don't give up, do as tinny suggested and just keep posting

It only took to the fifth response to suggest trailer tents have no place in the Club!

"I also wonder why trailer tents are part of the CC......they aren't either caravans of motorhomes.....they are tents."

Not a view I share at all, I was one within the club in the seventies.

Like DSB, I feel we are by necessity going to see a resurgence of what by any title will be a trailer tent, though I suspect there would have to be a "cooler" and on trend renaming.

They offer a very viable solution to the ever increasing adoption of cars designed tightly to do their primary task and not have copious reserves designed into them to tow something equating to the best part of their mass again. Increasingly cars will "just" be optimised to do what they are designed for, if any serious attempt is to be made minimise their environmental impact.

I very much doubt if our 1500 to 2000 kg new build caravans will feature much longer into the future, I don't think camping will die out though solutions much like trailer tents will return in greater numbers.

Michael, and others you are very welcome to pitch next to us with your trailer tent.
