'Wild camping' in a motorhome or van

This morning bright and early we drove 6 miles from home to the top of the Kirkstone Pass in the Lake District.

At the entrance to the car park there is a nice big sign stating that overnighting is not allowed. There were 6 vans which had clearly been there all night.

On Sunday bright and early we parked at the small car park by the river in Troutbeck. There is a sign forbidding over night stays here too. One van had clearly been there all night.

This behaviour really makes me cross. It's only day 2 of being allowed to stay away from home and already people are treating our area with blatant disrespect - either they can't read (unlikely) or they just do as they like anyway. No wonder motorhomers and campervanners get a bad press.

Please - if you are visiting the Lakes this year either use a campsite or chose a carpark where overnighting is allowed.

There has never been a "golden age" when everyone took home their litter  and I clearly remember the "Keep Britain Tidy" campaigns when at junior school in the 1950s. Google  "Keep Britain Tidy Campaign" some of the pictures on their website are quite shocking by todays standards.

I wasn't implying there was a golden age but there was an era with less traffic, less vehicles and less access to places. Certainly less food and drink container junk was thrown around..just the odd gas cooker! undecided

Here's an offer for overnight parking in Cumbria but I can't imagine the freebie campers paying the fee!? Honister Car Park  LINK

.....a lot of new joiners are appearing these days, Corners, so I guess they want precisely what CAMC offers😄

I doubt that many try before they buy so may only find the advantages and disadvantages after they begin to use the company's services.

But then they re-join in large numbers so I assume they must like what they find?

That is cheap, at Polpero they charge £25, no facilities just a car park, even during normal daylight hours they charge double the price of a normal motor car for MH's.foot-in-mouth

Fair enough if they occupy 2 bays. 👍🏻

Not really, if you are referring to camp sites, cant remember when i last used a club site, but i still rejoin every year, but you get some good discounts at places like Mountain Warehouse etc, and i like some of their insurance products, or i did when we were allowed to travel cool

Agreed, but I was talking about the club's product in terms of sites.

Only a fool would join without thoroughly researching what’s on offer in advance. As folk happily renew year upon year, or take a break and rejoin, the advantages must be what people want.

No I was referring to the whole 'experience' of being a member. As I said upthread you join the club as it give you something you want, or as LLM said the company's services. And as people then re-join that can only mean they are satisfied with whatever it is they are getting.
