It's good to hear that members of CT are receiving their vaccinations, good luck to all those yet to have theirs. It seems like a long haul till we get everyone sorted and hear the results of the present vaccines.

I'm leaving this open for non political comments as per the guidelines. Hope you can add your own experiences and thoughts.

My first jab comes up tomorrow, I'm so glad we have research institutions that have got us this far! And I am planning breaks away in the hope of improvements on the horizon.

Some folk who had side effects after the first jab have told me that it was better the second time.  I' m still going to be taking a few paracetamol either side of the jab, to help ward off any uncomfortable feelings!!! smile

Our son has several friends in Israel, they found that they had a worse reaction with their second AZ vaccination, so there seems to be no real pattern in it.    He has had his first AZ one with no side effects at all.

Had an email from the NHS Vaccination Service today to say that where we had our original vaccination is now closed as a centre and we have been redirected to a new clinic, with more room,  at the Open University which just happens to be a little nearer to where we live. I was a bit surprised when I got the email as originally they had not confirmed the appointments despite entering the email address. Margaret has yet to have the same notification but we will both go together.

I felt a bit 'off-colour' for the day after my first AZ jab, but when I had my second one on Saturday - had no ill effects - didn't feel the needle, no aching arm, and most surprisingly, didn't even have a bruise where the needle went in - which considering I take anti-coagulants, is a miracle.

If it wasn't for the additional sticker on my 'jab card', I wouldn't have know I had had it at allsmile

I seem to be ok after the booster yesterday, so is OH except for a sore arm. Both of us reacted to the first jab so pleased we've fared better this time ( AstraZ.)

I looked at the uk covid map last night and was surprised to see there were still hundreds of cases in some areas so it shows we can't let our guard down. An area of Cornwall we visited had a local increase.

It is generally accepted that in reasonable sunlight a person with light skin will will get their daily dose in about 15 minutes.  With darker skin it can take up to two hours.

Not sure that statement is entirely accurate. NHS advise that in the UK, sunlight doesn't contain enough UVB radiation in winter (October to early March) for our skin to be able to make vitamin D. Any deficit needs to be made up from food sources (including fortified foods) and supplements.

Wouldn’t be too alarmed about Cornwall, +2 cases compared to the previous week. Cases per/100k figure about half the England rate. It’s still fairly quiet here and feels safe - tiny numbers (64 cases) so percentage increase is easily inflated by small changes.

We have our second "Oxford" jab on 16th April    ,with that in mind and the Lockdown being lifted?  We are booked to go away after Easter and returning the day before our second jabsurprised

It is possible restrictions permitting? we may have some sort of a meet up with some friends before;  probably at our "second home"wink

Well, JVB, a fortnight almost to the minute since your second vaccination was due, so, if all went well, you should be a right hive of good bugsies wink so you should be something other than contagious now !!  May you travel on your way with a clear conscience and no need of a vaccine passport, either cool   Plenty of giggles, chez   A B M  innocent

I’m struggling a bit with the logic of these event testing trials. Not the fact that they are doing them but the parameters. As I understand it folk attending must have a recent negative test. They are then being tested at periods after the event to see if it has resulted in a spike in cases. From what I have read none has so far been detected. Since they all tested negative before being let in, this comes as no great surprise. Surely a more certain way would be to just let those selected in without tests, or just a simple temperature check. The results after could then be compared against the general population or a similar demographic group who had not attended. Unless the plan is  to test everyone before all large events for the foreseeable future the results don’t seem valid for what will happen as we move back to near normal.
