April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

Don't you find it amazing that they can turn up at the same place and as near as dammit the same date each year? Like lots of other bird species such as Swallows.

Obviously the recent settled weather has helped.

Here's hoping for a successful breeding season.

It is truly amazing that they are able to arrive back at the same nest, often year after year, at around the same time each year, and so often pair up with the same mate second previous years. So far this year there are 7 that have arrived earlier than expected, with one up to a week sooner, 4 that have arrived just the odd day later than forecast, and a couple on the exact day. There are also 3 that have not yet arrived, being later than expected, and a couple are due today if on time.

I've just received notification that Blue 69 flew in to Nest 4 at Keilder on the 25th. The first of the Esthwaite Water pair, the male Blue 7A, arrived at 7:52 this morning.

Heard yesterday that one of the Dyfi ospreys is back. Thinks it’s Tellyn

That's right, AnnB, the female Telyn, Blue 3J, was filmed on the nest yesterday a week earlier than last year's date.

There is an Osprey recorded at Shapwick every August bank holiday heading south. Noah's hide if anyone is in the area at the time.

one was reported over Bristol yesterday heading North

We have just had 2nd Jab so hoping to get out and about soon. Lets hope we all do it with, it ain't over just yet in mind. Not sure if I can stand another lockdown.

Not been in a hide for over a year, or a shop, cinema etc. And only Used 1.5 tanks of fuel in the car in 13 months. Used to use at least 26 in that time.

First Osprey egg of the year laid this morning at the Manton Bay nest, which not totally unexpected, as this was the first pair to arrive.

There have been 7 new arrivals at monitored nests over the last couple of days.

4 males yesterday, Blue 5F (Seren) at Clyedog, Aran ( unringed) at Glaslyn, Blue W6 at Kielder 6, and Idris (unringed) at Dyfi..

3 females today,  unringed at Kielder 1A, unringed at Esthwaite Water, and Blue KC at Threave.

Thanks NTH that is quite a list of sightings. Ever hopeful some will set up a nest in the west country.

I don't know if there are plans for a nesting site to be set up in the West Country, but there are plans underway to try and establish one at least in Suffolk.
