April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

There have been numerous eggs laid by Ospreys on observed nests over the last couple of days.

To cheer Brian up there are reports of a couple of Ospreys investigating the Loch Garten next site!!😁 Hope they pair up and occupy the nest this year.

ooo, Thank you for that Nellie, I certainly need cheering up today, sniffle sniff, sob, 'coz I checked out all the bird feeders, topped them up and, then went on line to Haiths to order bird seeds etc.

Think they saw me coming, tho  !!wink

Lots of eggs being laid now including 3 at Dyfi, Glaslyn, L of the L, one of the Kielder nests, Manton Bay and Foulshaw. There's also a new pair on the nest at Llyn Brenig so there's a possible chance of eggs there too this year.

Fingers crossed that they  all hatch and the chicks are fledged successfully.

BM the Osprey seems to still be hanging about at Chew Valley, but no report of a nest being occupied.

Brian, it looks as if the new pair at Loch Garten are getting along fine, and there is still a prospect of them becoming parents this year. For the moment they've been named Axel and Mistle by the web site watchers, but that could change it the wardens at LG select others names.

DISASTER- Someone last night cut down the Osprey Nest at Llyn Brenig. Appears there are 2 females and 1 male at the reservoir and1 egg had been laid. Investigations taking place. Hope they catch the perpetrators very soon.

Check out the BBC News website, not sure how to add the link. Absolute morons, whoever did this, let's hope they get caught soon.

Utterly appalling behaviour     !!

Apparently they had gone equipped with a chain-saw according to the report I read, so it was pre-meditated vandalism.

This is the link from BBC Wales.

Hope they are able to catch the imbeciles, and put them away for a long, long time. This is the second year on the trot that there has been outside disturbance to the nesting pair. This year's pair are both new to the area and it could well have been the first time that they had paired up and mated.

It shocked me as well. Although I enjoy an occasional look in on bird web cams I wonder if it helps in the long run? Perhaps these sites need more protection than we think. Very sad, I hope the perpetrators are caught, their boat was recorded on the Cam.frown
