April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

Not a lot to report over the last few days except Maya, the Manton Bay,Rutland female, has laid her second egg, the Kielder Nest 7 male, KM 18 has arrived as has the Poole Harbour female CJ7, but no sign of a mate for either yet.

I don't know if there are plans for a nesting site to be set up in the West Country, but there are plans underway to try and establish one at least in Suffolk.

There has been a post set up near Chew Valley lake for a few years but no takers so far.

Nearest is Clwydog  reservoir.

BM, these are from the Osprey sighting forum today, with other sightings in previous days, so there may be a chance that the nest will be occupied this year.

Hi NTH

There were reports yesterday of up to three Ospreys and a White Tailed  Eagle over at Chew Valley Resevoir, which was enough to tempt me in to the great outdoors for a rare excursion for many months.

No sign of the Eagle, but the Osprey did show quite well even taking a small fish within view, but to far for a photograph.

Attached is the best I could manage.

Great stuff, BM, love the photo! Pity you didn't catch sight of the Eagle. Fingers crossed that a pair will settle on the nest platform and rear some chicks.

I see that there was a sighting this morning at Herons Green Bay, and at lunchtime at Herriott's Bridge.

We think we might get down that way later in the year, but perhaps they will have flown by then even if they pair up and breed.

I see that Maya, the female at Manton Bay, Rutland, laid her 3rd egg of this year yesterday. The female of the pairs at both Foulshaw Moss and Loch of the Lowes should be due to lay their first eggs any day now, if they follow a similar timetable after arrival as those at MB.

Thanks NTH

If you check the Avon Birds site, there are a couple of links to facebook sites showing this bird catching a small fish. Taken this morning at Herriots (where mine was taken). The opinion of those around was that there were still two around.
