April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

Social media are suggesting it’s vested interests, they’re destroying the natural predation to ensure the Human predation can continue. On the upside some(in Wales) are saying the Police are already being given names. It may not help the mated Ospreys but can help for their future-hopefully👍🏻

For the uninformed. Ospreys are fish eaters so no connection with lambs. Before there are any other barbs we fishermen looked after the Ospreys at Clywedog years before the RSPB turned them into an income source.

It’s just odd the way some quarters are regularly railing at rewilding then this happens. I can see why the Welsh animal lovers are upset🤷🏻‍♂️. Plus Fish I can see why your countrymen are linking the dislike for a bird that is supreme at fishing with Humans that are not good at it at all being upset by the Ospreys becoming a permanent feature. I personally know nothing of the facts but when they are caught it’ll be interesting to see the actual facts👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I dont know anyone that begrudges these birds a few fish, certainly not the fishermen I know. As someone who has watched them over decades they are not that good at the fishing. I guess they may be lucky once in 3 or 4 dives to make a kill.

I suppose it will depend on the waters it is fishing , AD,  Scottish Lochs can contain lots of fish, but if they are not near the surface then . . . . . . . .

You don’t need to guess Fish they are successful 50% of the time👍🏻. Add to that a growing family that will deplete stocks. I’m not an expert but those that are have already realised the criminals were not after any eggs or young. This was to stop the Ospreys & make them move on. The uproar will invoke a response & we’ll see who these hate filled idiots are. My money is on it not being the supporters & advocates of rewilding.

Rocky- have you watched these birds fishing. I have for over a decade here on a stocked trout water and  they are not as good as you suggest. But hey if knowledge comes from doctored TV shows then OK, not quite like actual seeing. Ask Iolo what his opinion is. The Brenig nest was in shallow water just off the reservoir side, again a stocked reservoir with a good head of fish.
