Hi everyone,

Following the very popular Coronavirus Concerns discussion, I have created this discussion to continue conversation around the Coronavirus where you can discuss with each other and share updates and concerns.

However, we do request that conversations and comments about politics are not posted as this inadvertently leads to disagreements and arguments as we have seen in previous discussions where we have needed to moderate posts. Please can you keep your conversation free from politics friendly and in the spirit of the community. A reminder of the Guidelines below:

We moved all our bookings / deposits for our tour of Scotland this May / June to the same time next year. However, it seems that for visiting NTS we might have been premature. In today's paper it is reported that The NTS have warned that some of its house and gardens might not open until 2022 as they could not comply with social distancing or sustain running costs. So we may have to revise our itinerary, especially if other properties do the same.

Is anyone else monitoring Covid case in their area? Local here, over the past week they have been increasing. It would be interesting to know what is happening locally in other areas.

I monitor it everyday. There has been a couple of new cases here in MK in the last couple of days and yesterday there was unfortunately another death but that was the first one for about ten days. What I find puzzling is that the UK don't seem to be giving a figure for those that have recover from the virus. John Hopkins University quotes the UK figure for recovered as 1257 but I think that includes dependent territories. Our local news source states everyday that the NHS don't issue recovery figures which I find a bit strange.

Daily new cases across UK are still in four figures, I think it was something around 1500 yesterday. Varies of course greatly from region to region. There’s always a drastic drop of deaths over the weekend, I think lowest was 55 on Sunday or Monday, but then yesterday it was back up to 286. Something to do with when deaths are recorded, but it’s been like this throughout.

Locally, we are in a strange place. On one town border we have an area with one of the highest UK figures, (Sheffield) ,on the opposite town border, we have an area recording one of the lowest UK figures. They are demographically very different. Govt figure for us over weekend was no increase in cases, and no deaths. Yesterday showed 5 new cases and thankfully again, no deaths.

Urban areas are as to be expected showing the greatest number of cases and deaths. Sheffield’s statistics are not a true reflection of what is happening locally, as one of the Sheffield hospitals was designated back in March as somewhere for C19 cases to go after returning from overseas. Hence the statistics might not reflect this. It also has three huge hospitals that serve as regional centres, specialising in different health conditions.

I look at the cases in our area every day.  There have been 3 more in the last few days.  A good improvement but a shame it’s still increasing, albeit slowly.

Falling, but slowly, in Wiltshire, PD, and I believe much of the increase in R in the South West was down to the incident at Weston-super-Mare hospital.

Speculation about what is going to happen is pointless, I guess,  but I was disappointed by the Business Minister's non-answer to the question about caravan sites last night. It would have been a good opportunity to at least let folk know what dialogue was being had with clubs and site organisations.

Simon Calder was asked a similar question on ITV's coronavirus Q&A programme on Monday night and said he was at a loss to explain the continuing reluctance to discuss opening self contained accommodation such as cottages and static vans. He also said he'd been lobbying hard for that to change.

But non-answers seem to be the order of the day on the daily briefings just now and maybe not surprisingly given the debacle overy primary school reopening.

I’ve been checking the rate of positive test (Wigan MBC) since the beginning.  I know it doesn’t give all the cases but its useful as a comparison of similar data week by week.

The weeks around Easter had a weekly total of positive cases around the 150 mark. This dropped to 33 by last Monday and down to 18 for the 7 days ending with yesterday’s figures.

I was waiting for some good news when the question about camping and cottages was asked but we got nothing.  I’m sure the Ministers are told not to answer anything that doesn’t fall within their sphere of responsibility, either that or they don’t understand how camping works.

Im hopeful that maybe next week we will have some more news.

The problem with the release of lockdown on holidays is the movement around the country of lots of people and some very large influxes of visitors to certain areas. Our local Somerset stats say there is a rise in confirmed cases. I listened to More or Less on radio 4 this morning which discussed the variations in statistics and testing etc. It's worth a listen if you're interested.

In all honesty we are responsible for our own safety, if we choose to use a 3rd party convenience it is down to us. MM has worked & has used 3rd party toilets. I’ve used store toilets. If sites open it’s up to each individual to call it👍🏻.

This isnt just about your own safety. It is also about passing the virus on to other people. Even though the R number is below 1, an infected person can still transmit it to others.

Fair point & that’s why I was wearing mask & surgical gloves around Asda this am. I’m not a gambler, I choose life👍🏻
I'm not someone who just talks/posts.
