Hello all

We are in the process of opening our new caravan park. From people experience what is the best/easiest/most efficient booking system that sites use?

All advise and help on this topic will be greatly appreciated.

Thank guys.

Sam

Moderator Comment - Sam as this refers to a CL I will move this to the CL section and close the one you started in the Story Section

All very helpful responses. Thankyou guys.

Trees, shrubbery and flowers will be planted in good time. It’s all a work in progress and very much a learning curve. So all suggestions are welcome.

We appreciate all the advise we get and understand that everyone has a very different opinion.

We were highly advised by numerous people (cc members) about minimum 3 night stay. If it doesn’t work it’s all very flexible and can be changed. Thanks again

Regards, Sam

Whilst the site looks OK - or will with some planting I prefer hardstanding and particularly as I book well ahead.

However there are two reasons why I would not pick your site.

1. Lack of detailed location address so I can view exactly where it is located.

2. Lack of detailed approach directions.

If the entry on CC website had a link to your website I would have looked there. There are 5 sites within 5 miles and two of these whilst not providing all the info that I want do have a website that does and would therefore not consider looking further at your site or any other that does not give easy access to this basic info..

Our website is in the process of been built. It will hopefully be live by this Wednesday which our Facebook and instagram pages have advertised.

We are still beginners in this industry so certain things will take a bit of time.

We also plan to have hard standing in the Near future

regards, Sam

Just asking ..... 🙂

Why do you need detailed approach directions? For just about every site I go to I put the address/postcode into my sat-nav/phone & of I go. CLs are very often farms etc & if you can get a farm vehicle or farm delivery tanker/vehicle/etc there, then I'll get my car and caravan there. Though she did question me when I arrived at Casteton for going via Winnats pass ....

Maybe I'll look on Google maps to see how urban or rural a site maybe ie not end up on a pitch next to an oil refinery/similar

I have been on sites where approach from one direction is fine and from another on the same road very difficult. Yes I could suss it out but if there are 5 sites in a 5 mile radius I am not going to look at each one. I am likely to sit with OH over a couple of evenings and plan three routes for tours. Deciding where to tour and where we have not been or not been recently takes a while and then we will want to locate and decide on around 21 sites based on their location in regards to where we wish to stop. I want as much info as possible when I choose. It is a matter of convenience that I will look first at those sites that provide the most readily available comprehensive information rather than sort through each and every site in a well served area such as York.

With a bit of digging access to this site looks fine but I won't be doing into 5 sites to find one. Look at those with websites first and only if they look unsuitable look at others. If all I wanted was a single site near york for a one stop break then I would look at more sites perhaps but when I want 21 sites I am not going to search over 100 to choose them.

When I look for a CL or a site in an area I generally use a google maps search. If sites come up suitably located and if they have a website then that is my port of call. Don't do facebook etc either

Like a lot of others giving information we are extensive users of CLs, and not far away from you in terms of somewhere to stay. I won’t comment on your website set up choices, as this seldom influences our choice of somewhere to stay.

For a new CL, I think you might just be best testing the water in terms of how many nights stay you decide to limit, as a lot of folks like to tour and may only want one or two nights in the area, others may prefer longer of course, but you are losing the short stayers straight away. If you find you are a busy CL, then consider minimum night stays at weekends, or during busy periods such as school holidays, or when events are on in the area. This is what a lot of established CLs do quite successfully.

I think if you are going to charge extra for larger vans and MHs, then specify what are your criteria, eg twin axles, or MHs over 7metres for example, otherwise you are leaving potential visitors guessing. Be prepared to give the reasons why as well, because someone will undoubtably ask!

Like others, we would find £18 per night too expensive for what you are offering, and in your area. Other than orientation of a van or MH to catch the sun at selected times of the day, with your pitch layout, pitch selection is perhaps not required. I am sure your pitching area will look less stark once you get established, and can think more about general attractiveness. A few daffodil bulbs in Spring, and some planters in Summer can make somewhere a bit more special.

Please don’t get disheartened by some of the suggestions, these are folks that use CLs on a regular basis, and I am sure that everyone will wish you all the best. Good communications with your potential visitors is key, whichever way you choose to do it.

Wishing you all the best, and hope your new venture is a success😁

Thanks for the detailed critique. It’s all very helpful. We have our first van in at the moment that’s staying for a week. We are doing everything we can to make them feel at home. After all. We will live and die by our reviews.

Cheers again guys

I hope things go well for you. I think flexibility will be the key for you. Caravans ( we have one of these as well) tend to prefer longer stays, whilst the growing MH ownership, certainly us, is open to shorter stays.

Am I right in thinking you have neighbours with a campsite next door?

ET, there is a very detailed direction to the site on the site's CC's web page. FYI :-

From the junction with the A64 (York Southern Bypass) and the A19, head south on the A19 signposted Selby. In 4 miles passing through Escrick, turn right onto Stillingfleet Road, signposted Stillingfleet. In 2.13 miles pass over the ECML onto Escrick Road and turn right at the side of the Cross Keys Inn and onto Church Hill (B1222) signposted Naburn, York. Continue over a small stream and onto York Road (B1222), and continue for a further 900 metres before turning left into Old Pasture Park. In 257 metres the reception is on the right hand side and its a further 65m to the CL field.

I very much doubt that the site will shown on a Google Map search yet, either.
