Towing with Hybrid/electric cars

most hybrids only get to about 25/30 mph and then the engine side kicks in, so what would be the point for towing.

For about 7 years I towed an 1800kg caravan with a Lexus RX400h hybrid - a nice car that returned fantastic fuel economy solo in city driving, but the benefits when towing were marginal.

The Lexus and the Mitsubushi are the only cars I have come across as suitable for towing but new models are coming out all the time. The new Toyota Corolla due out next year looks good on paper but we will have to wait and see.

So, in a nutshell, none of them are realistic tow cars.

We have a friend in Hampshire is now on his second Lexus hybrid and would not change to any other make,  he did have an Elddis but now tows an Adria no problems and very happy with his latest combination.

If you watched Top Gear last night, it implied that an electric only car is virtually useless. The 11 plate Leaf had a very disappointing range. A hybrid will have switched to petrol/diesel by the end of the street when towing.

I know that Top Gear isn't the b all & end all.

Land rover have got one now , so you can tow 100 miles .great ..imagine the queque at plug in points with caravan behind ,,on sites bollards with plug in , How much is a ehu gonna cost ?

You’re behind the times, DC. At present you are allowed to charge your lekky car on site but only via a socket in your caravan, not directly from the EHU bollard.
