Fabulous Norfolk

Another great long weekend at Barleywood. Friendly welcome from David and Lorna. Lorna had already informed me that info shack was being renovated. They are going to make a small kitchen and put the washing machines in the renovated shack thereby allowing another shower to be installed in the toilet facility. Its good to see the continued investment on this excellent site. Love to walk up the lane by the site, this time there were a large flock of Field Fares and Redwings feeding on a tree about 300 yards up the lane. Barleywood is really convenient for visiting the North Norfolk coast and its fabulous beaches and wildlife sites.

A wonderful Site

Having viewed the numerous previous reviews which have been glowing for Barleywood we chose to visit there for a week in order to explore the north coast of Norfolk for the first time and stayed from the 8th to the 15th of November. All that I need to say is that the superlative reviews are well deserved. This is a wonderful site. It is beautifully maintained and thoughtfully set up with garden seats and tables scattered throughout and a short path through the wooded edging. A permanent connection to the water mains is available for those who have that facility. The Wi fi is very good and TV reception, although a little temperamental at times when the weather conditions are unfavourable, is on the whole good. David and Lorna are so accommodating and helpful with both the introductions and resources without being intrusive. They were really informative about local resources and helped to make our first visit to Norfolk an absolute joy. We could not possibly rate this site more highly. We can't wait to return for a future visit and expect there to be many. The surrounding wildlife centres are fascinating with so many varieties of birds and the deer parks are a joy to walk round. There is so much to do in the area that one is spoilt for choice. Well done David and Lorna. We will see you again soon...if we can find an empty slot on your bookings list that is! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Another great weekend

Another great weekend at Barleywood.  Excellent facilities with informal pitching.  2 immaculate toilet blocks. Apart from the well stock freezers and free range fresh eggs David now provides daily papers at a small delivery charge.  We went to Sculthorpe Community Reserve which is only a mile from the site, easy walking with mainly elevated walkways and plenty of wildlife

Wonderful Week in Norfolk

Just back from a 7 night stay at this beautiful and friendly site. Just outside Fakenham, set in the small village of South Creake, this has to be one of the best CL sites in this area, if not the country. The site is very large and predominantly flat, and if pitched correct you have access to your own water and drainage to the trees for grey water. Two very clean and large toilets, one with a shower (10p a minute), with a washing machine and dryer in the other. Honesty box's allow you to pay for the services. A small shed is packed with information for local attractions and there are freezers and fridges for you to use as well as being stocked with basics with suggested prices for the honesty box. Separate recycle bins were a plus, and access to free internet with a usually good signal strength. The only issue we had was poor TV reception on the pitch we were on (4) plus pitch 5 had the same issues. Other pitches seemed to get better signal. This didn't really bother us as we used iPlayer to watch the selected programmes we wanted to see. Very quiet site overall, little road traffic noise, although during the day you will get buzzed by jets from Mildenhall using the nearby disused airfield for practice. The jets were more of an appeal than a bother. Perfectly placed for exploring the North Norfolk coast, we thoroughly enjoyed driving through the small villages and seeing the flint and brick buildings so typical of Norfolk. We loved the coast, with its unspoilt wide and very long beaches, perfect for dog walks and peaceful contemplation. This part of the coast is great fro bird watchers, as well as walkers. We visited Holcombe Park and managed to complete a 10 mile bike ride through the deer park and down to Wells, around the coast through pine forests and back to the park. Holcombe house is a beautiful place to spend a day as is the near by beach. Sandringham is another must to visit, along with Brancaster, Hunstanton, Sheringham and Cromer, as were all the small beach villages. Above all this site is well maintained, spotlessly clean, and David and Lorna are extremely welcoming and friendly. There were even freshly made curry's and lasagne in the freezer if you wanted them. Next to the site is a track for dog walkers and we highly recommend the Jolly Farmers pub in North Creake (just 10 mins drive away) for a really good meal out. Thank you to David and Lorna for providing a fantastic site for us to stay at!

Wow! what a site

This site is unbelievable.  David and Lorna have thought of everything and go out of their way to make your stay totally comfortable.  There is lots of space, grass is kept very short, bathrooms are beautifully clean and the well-stocked fridge and freezer is a much appreciated extra.  There are lovely fresh eggs and veg from the garden.  Home made jams, marmalade and frozen meals and cakes ensure you never want for anything.  Wifi is free (better than on CC sites) and reception was good.  The site is very well placed to visit all the beautiful north Norfolk coast, delightful towns and villages and, a little further afield, the Norfolk Broads.  Nearby Fakenham is great for shopping with a really good market once a week.  There are also good farm shops at Creake Abbey and Walsingham for lots of local produce.  There is one big problem with this site; it is so good that it is difficult to get a booking.  This is an excellent model for other sites to follow.

Our favourite site

David and Lorna have created the perfect CL in this lovely area of Norfolk. We stayed here for the third time in May and have booked for 2015 because it gets booked up so quickly. Our dog loves the dog walks and we love the large pitches, spotless facilities and the home-made food!

Excellent....

.....CL site.  Stayed here last summer for a couple of nights. Plenty of space, not "regimented" like CC sites! Do NOT miss out on the free range eggs, they are superb? Lots of home baked goodies in a well stocked fridge/freezer. Recommended!

Norfolk Gem

This has to be the best site we have ever stayed at, so much so that we have already booked for 2015. The welcome given by David and Lorna was exceptional, even lent us some extra hose for water connection.  The pitches have plenty of room, allowing you to set up as you wish. Both toilet and shower block were spotless and the added benefit of a washer and dryer made life over 2 weeks easy.  Would like to find fault to stop others taking all the places but there is nothing to say.  Well done to all in providing an excellent site.  See you next June.

Outstanding

Our first ccl and a lot to live up to for future ones. David and Lorna excellent hosts nothing was too much trouble. Lovely info hut with freezer stocked full of home cooked meals and desserts and fridge with goodies as well including eggs from their hens. Did not need a shop nearby as most things available on the site. Our dog enjoyed his walks every morning and evening on the lane next to the site. The showers and toilets were spotless. It was nice that any payment you needed to make for shower or food purchases was via honesty boxes. Will be returning probably next year as they are very full for the rest if this year.

One of the best

Everything you could want from any site, let alone a lovely little CL like this. Warm welcome, lovely heated shower/toilet block kept spotless. Info hut with a fridge full of basics, bread, milk etc. even choccies and biscuits. Quiet location, just a few interesting aircraft flying by to nearby MoD airfield, nothing noisy though. Pity no pub or shop within walking distance, but that's no problem
