Not disappointed

This little site is a gem right in the heart of Coniston 5 min walk into town with all its amenities pubs, shops and easy access to numerous walks (my favourite is the Copper mine walk). The site has 2 toilets 1 includes the shower both clean and tidy, taps (not on pitch) for drinking water and an elsan. You can dump your grey water after removing lid to the drain. Not forgetting the owner’s who are nice and helpful. Lovely views of the mountains behind the house and all in all a lovely site I definitely will be back one day.

lovely spot in the heart of coniston

pervious reviewers obviously came to a different spot! the owners house does not block the views!! their is most definitely an Elsan!! The access is not very difficult if you take it easy. its also not particularly narrow... just care needed. if you a confident driver you should be fine. this site is as central as you can get. basic but clean and tidy. Lovely owners, really helpful. We have a twin axel and so its a cosy site to get on but no problems in doing so. Showers take 50p which was fine, very clean and tidy bathroom area in general. The pitches are a little uneven and not marked out to perfection, but as long as you are not after manicuring and perfect straight lines, you are fine. Its the perfect stop to be if you want to enjoy coniston and surrounds.

Visit for 3 days in June 2021

Very difficult and narrow access. Pitches a little small. Good access to Coniston and lake.

Not for us

We had read the good reviews on this site so was really looking forward to our visit of 2 nights. On arrival we were met by a gentleman, not sure who he was but the owners were out for the day…. this was not an issue. We were disappointed with our pitch, all the pitches were small and ours was tucked in the corner right next to the road and pavement which was busy due to it being a lovely hot weekend. No Elsan point and was advised to open a grid in the grounds or empty in the toilet block, we really didn’t want to do either! No individual taps for the pitch so if using a Motorhome fill up before you arrive or take an Aqua-roll. Whilst you could see the hills in the background the owners house blocked the views…. the site is basically the owners back garden. One thing we didn’t like (and we took our dog) is the owners dogs running free around the site and doing their business wherever they wanted to on site and not being picked up and disposed of properly. We did meet the owners the following day when we went to pay and they were nice people. As I said all the previous reviews are good but this was clearly not for us and wouldn’t return…. all that said the location to the lake and the town was excellent

Great location

Arrived on site. It is quite tight through the gate but ok. When we got to the pitch we realised that someone else had taken up more than their allotted pitch so we had to end up closer to other vans and motor homes. The owner was very helpful in guiding us to the pitch and we set up at an angle due to the other caravan but in fact we had a better view because of it. There is a toilet and shower there. We didn’t use the shower but cannot comment but it is 50 pence for the shower. The toilet was kept clean but no heating so was a bit cold in there but great to have the facility to use. The location is fabulous. You can walk from the site and within minutes you are at the pubs and shops and a lot of walks from the site. The fish a d chip shop at the top of the road was great, very tasty and there is also a garage at the top of the road. Plenty of places to eat and outdoor clothing shops, co-op etc. The pitches are quite short so putting ours at an angle stopped our hitch sticking out on the path and we do not have a long van. Would definitely come back to that site as so near to the lakeside and cafe by the lake and lake cruises.

This CL is HOT Property

We have just returned home after a two week stay at Beckthwaite and miss the stunning scenery, peace and views already. We were welcomed by Peter Dixon as we arrived and I very soon discovered he and I shared a long service history with the Fire Service, felt at home in a heartbeat. Peter and Margaret are lovely people and the site is beautifully maintained, Indeed Peter builds his own dry stone boundary walls. The site, as other reviews have indicated, is ideally located for Coniston Village with its own private foot bridge across the beck and private road up into the village. All the attractions associated with the Lake District are within easy reach and, if you have four wheels and the bottle, I would encourage you to take the Hardknott Pass to the Eskdale & Ravenglass Railway, it's exhillirating to say the least. I could go on and on about this gem of a CL but, I'm sure you can pick up on my enthusiasm, needless to say we can't wait for a return visit.

Perfect Village location

After many years of visiting the area and coveting the location of this CL we have finally paid a visit! We stayed for 5 nights over New Year and although the site was full it was peaceful (all apart from a very loud TV from the Motorhome next door, but they weren't there long!), and very well kept. I used the shower/loo facilities once during our stay and although spotlessly clean there is no heating and you only get 4 minutes hot water for your 50p, so it was just easier to use the facilities in the van after that, but I'm sure they'll be much more user friendly in the summer. The CL is in a perfect location for the village with everything in walking distance and there is direct access to some lovely walks, down towards the lake and up into the fells. In fact, we loved it so much we have decided to spend Christmas there this year!

Excellent location for Southern Lake District

We have just recently concluded a 4 day stay on this site. It was an excellent base from which to explore the Southern Lake District. Once onsite you are only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Coniston and around 10 minutes down to the lake itself, The bus stop is also around 5 minutes away putting both Windermete and Grasmere within reach if you prefer not to drive once parked up. The site is well maintained and the toilets and shower were kept topped up with loo rolls and clean. Peter and his wife gave us a friendly welcome and we would certainly come again. Given the excellent location we felt it was good value.

Great Location

Just had 3 nights on this little gem of a CL. Location is everything, and this place is slap bang in the middle of Coniston Village, and a 5 minute walk to the water. Owners very friendly, and always there to answer any questions. The surrounding area delivers everything you would want from The Lake District. Just one gripe, but it's regarding other site users, and not the site itself. We were onsite during the recent World Cup, and one of the other campers was a bit offish because we were supporting our country!

Coniston lake

Easy to find with ok access. Very central to town and Coniston lake both within a 5 min walk. Friendly owners who make you welcome. Two basic but clean toilets one with shower at 50p a go. Only complaint was when I watched the owner wash out the toilet brushes under the drinking water tap ?
