Small quiet friendly CL site

A very warm welcome from all the staff on arrival, lovely well kept level site, lots of local walks nearby including Bolam lake and country park which is just up the road. 20 min drive to Morpeth which is well worth a visit. You must try the stables coffee shop on site at least once a day very friendly staff with a wealth of local knowledge, make sure you ask for directions to Hadrians wall !!!!!!, cakes and fruit pies to die for. Will definitely be going back soon. Marcus & Gillan.

Just returned home after a lovely stay.

Site is quiet, ideally located for visiting so many places of interest. On arrival we were met by John with a sheet of useful information. He is very pleasant and helpful, he pointed out the coffee shop on site, it's worth going to the site for that alone! The surrounding countryside is beautiful and we couldn't fault it. Sites such as this one is why we like CLs. Thank you John.

Fantastic CL

This is a lovely CL. We booked in for a long weekend and went back a fortnight later for another long weekend. This is a quiet, well kept site. There are no hard standings and the grass is well maintained across the whole site.  The ground is fairly level but there are areas of very slightly undulating ground, so level blocks may be required.  There are two sets of three electricity points (6 points in total), a recycling bin and rubbish bin, one drinking water tap and one non-drinking water tap. The waste disposal is near the centre of the field, but well away from where the caravans can be sited.  The Stable Cafe is on site and is open Friday to Monday 10.30 - 4.30. The welcome is always friendly and the food is lovely. The cakes are particularly lovely!! Bolam Lake is within walking distance of the caravan site Belsay, Morpeth and Ponteland are within close driving distance. Newcastle upon Tyne is a little further away. Overall this is a fantastic site and we will definitely be back.

Charming Site

You enter the site through the gate for Stables Coffee Shop. The CL sign is on the opposite side of the road. The site is located on a main road however there is very little noise form the road. The site is quite level and there is plenty of space between units to erect an awning. We were met by John the owner who was very friendly and helpful. He gave us a useful information sheet which gives you the location of where the bins, taps and waste disposal are as well as local places of interest to visit along with nearby walk. As the ground was soft John loaned us a very long electricity cable so that we could stay on hard ground. There are plenty of pleasant dog walks nearby. The coffee shop has a steady stream of business but this does not detract from the site. The coffee shop is well worth a visit. There is only a small negative point regarding the waste disposal which is located in the middle of the field so when you are using it you are in full view of everyone. You are asked not to use the waste disposal when the coffee shop is open which a valid point. If a small fence was erected around the tank you would feel far less exposed when using it. Having said that the site is well worth a visit and would not put me off visiting the site again.

Lovely Quiet Rural Site

A very quiet site, flat and well protected from prevailing wind.  We had a very warm and friendly welcome from our hosts who were exceptionally helpful with local information. The coffee shop on site is deservedly very popular with locals and cyclists.  One is asked not to use it while the coffee shop is open. Finally, the CL sign is on the opposite side of the road to the site.  I missed it and overshot necessitating a lengthy reverse along the road.

Perfect CL

We received a very warm welcome at this CL on arrival. The site is very quiet and the facilities are great, this for me is the perfect CL easy to get to, far enough but not too far from all the local attractions and just a great place to return to after a days sight seeing. The coffee shop is great you must visit whilst at this site. Although next to the road there is no feeling of traffic noise intrusion and i personally never really noticed much traffic. The site is big enough for 5 vans with plenty of space in between and well kept and very tidy. All in all thoroughly recommended.

A lovely CL in beautiful countryside

This is a lovely site that we thoroughly recommend. The access is easy and the site is level and well cared for. There is plenty of room for the vans to be well spaced. All the facilities are conveniently close. We received a warm welcome and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. We arrived on one of the 4 days in the week that the adjoining coffee shop is open so were able to enjoy some delicious apple pie and cake. It is very popular with cyclists and other visitors but this just added to the pleasant atmosphere. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, both towards the coast and inland. The scenery is wonderful and there are several National Trust and English Heritage properties to explore as well as Hadrian's wall. We found everyone we met so friendly and helpful. We had our two spaniels with us. We did go to Bolam Lake with them but, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, it was quite crowded and we didn't let them off the lead in case they stole someone's picnic! However we found a wonderful place to walk them at a Forestry Commission site at Rothbury Wood.

A quiet sheltered site in a lovely country location. Your dog will love it too.

This is a great CL site from which to enjoy the beautiful, peaceful Northumbrian countryside. It is a good base for exploring Hadrians Wall, the local market towns of Hexham and Morpeth and the lovely golden sandy beaches of the county. The site is on a level, sheltered well kept field with excellent access from the road. It is just across the road from Bolam Lake, a large Country Park which is heaven for dogs to run free and explore all the exciting woodland smells. The Charlton family are exceptionally welcoming and friendly and the site is just a step away from their warm and inviting coffee shop where they serve the most delicious home-made food and their toilets are immaculately clean. I cannot praise this CL site enough. It is definitely a favourite!
