True Gem Hope to return in Spring

There's not much to say that hasn't already been said in previous reviews but don't let one bad review put you off. We booked for 5 nights ended up staying 11 think that says it all. The owners were extremely friendly & full of local knowledge of the area. Karen was always about to offer help & advice but not in your space (if anything probably me keeping her talking). Dave was more than happy to show us his pet Stag & Deers which he kept behind a walled enclosure. Even their household pets & the horse were friendly too. There are lots of wild birds in the are if you are like me & feed them I suggest taking a lot of bird food. The site is well maintained although it was mid Oct when we stayed there was plenty of colour from the plants n shrubs around the site, can only imagine what it looks like in Spring/Summer. Single track road leading to the site but no different to most CL's. We were lucky enough to stay on the sites second field 2 narrow posts to get through but wider than you think just take it steady. Toilet adjacent to outbuildings didn't use so can't comment. Lots of cycling & walks directly from the site so no need to use your car, For the more adventurous just to name a few Scafell Pike, Haystacks & Old Man of Coniston aren't that far away along with Wastwater, Ennerdale, Buttermere, Crummack & Bassenthwaite. If you like scenery I would suggest a drive over Hardknott and Wrynose Pass not for the fainthearted. also worth a visit is Muncaster Castle, Eskdale Railway, Ravenglass its a pretty village, the start of Coast to Coast @ St Bees just a little up the coast road, you can see the IOM too, slow roads but you are in the Country . In the Village of Gosforth which is walking distance you'll find a small Coop, ATM, couple of pubs & a baker's OMG their meat n mushroom pies are delicious. Pub in Santon Bridge again you could walk to it, Service Station n store in Holmrook, Tesco in Millom to name a few. We are both on 3 network & didn't have a problem with signal whatsoever even took Now TV stick & tethered to catch up on TV. Will definitely return Thank You once again Tracey & Andy
