Tranquil

Just returned from a four night stay on this great CL. Excellent walking direct from the site along the sea wall in to Burnham on Crouch and also the wonderful surrounding farmland and all its aspects towards conservation and wildlife. We especially loved the wild flower areas and the beautiful sunflowers. Fantastic and spacious pitches, together with a very warm welcome from the owner all made for a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Fabulous

First stay of 2018, hopefully more before the end of the season. Wonderful welcome, as is usual. Plentiful wildlife immediately outside your 'van. First thing we heard on arrival was the cuckoo. Had a very close encounter with the barn owl too. So peaceful and tranquil, so good for the soul.

Fantastic, just love it

This was our third stay at this fantastic site. From the email before arrival telling us our pitch number and earliest arrival time to the welcome from Adrienne and Martin just perfect. This is a full facilities site within walking distance of Burnham on Crouch. Walking along the road takes about 20 minutes. Plenty of POI in the area also great walks along the river and around the farm. Fantastic wildlife on show each day.

Another wonderful stay

Just had another great stay here. Warm welcome, wonderful information room. Completely restful site with wonderful wildlife views direct from your van! Didn't see the barn owl this time, but did see the hares among the horses. The new sit and ride on mower, which collects the clippings, is given a run out as a van leaves and before the next arrives ensuring that the grass remains short. Thanks. An easy walk into town along quiet roads or via the sea wall, make it circular if you like. Town has a museum, Tesco, Co-op, pharmacy and self owned shops including a hardware and craft shop with a very knowledgeable owner, market on Tuesdays. Award winning fish and chips which are delicious and made even better for eating in the sun whilst watching the boating activities on the river. Pubs and cafes too, yacht clubs and a marina so plenty to see, in fact enough of what you need to enjoy your stay. Won't be back this year but looking forward to visiting next year.

fantastic site

we have just returned from a long weekend, its a wonderful place to stay, lots of walks, Burnham is nice, with a wonderful river front, shops pubs ect, and with the sun out it doesn;t get much better, the owners are great a warm welcome, there if you need them, but not intrusive, although nothing to do with the owners or there CL, the rspb seems to have a big influence on the farm, and if i;m honest i was disapointed with the lack of bird life, at one end of the farm there is a large grass field set out for amonst others lap wing, but when I was a young man working on a farm lap wing (pee wit) nested on bear soil of a seed bed, as i used to get off the tractor and move eggs or chicks, when rolling or drilling, but it was nice to see the woodpecker flighting across the horse paddock

Little oasis

This site is approached through an estate, then a lane and opens out onto the CL field. There is a choice for each pitch between sunny or shade from the trees. Whichever you choose you can enjoy the liveried horses in the adjacent fields. The information room is very well stocked and has a comfy sofa on which to sit whilst reading up on walks, local villages, local nature and other useful information. Walks direct from the site are flat but interesting, through farm fields or up to the dyke alongside the river. It's a really nice, peaceful site which we'd recommend.

Mower

I'm writing as the owner of Burnham Wick Farm. We have just had a ride-on mower delivered today, which should make an enormous difference to the grass on the CL field. As we're a busy farm with only two people working on it,the demand for the tractors (and mower) is fairly intense. Thank you for all your kind reviews

Lovely, quiet CL

Our arrival was somewhat marred by some chancers who had just turned up (claiming they were just passing and didn't know they had to book!!) and set up on our pitch - no fault of the owners and swiftly rectified (sometime people just astonish me, they really do). But after that all was absolutely lovely. The most friendly fellow caravanners - much evening chatting and the most glorious outlook over fields to the sea wall. You can walk along the wall into Burnham which we thought was an absolutely lovely little town with fabulous fish and chips. We walked around the farm, along the sea wall and just sat outside the van, in the sun, and watched the birds and horses and the sails. Bliss. Perfectly quiet with just bird song and horsey snorting. We didn't use the facilities, did use the information room (very good), visited the Dengie peninsular and had a wonderful time. One downside. Although we weren't looking for a manicured lawn, the grass was very long. Far too long for comfortable caravanning if I am honest. We had to squash it down to get the awning floor tiles down and they stayed a bit wobbly until the end of our stay. I know this is a very heavily booked site, I know this isn't an expensive site and I know it is a very busy time of year for farmers, but there were several occasions when people pulled off when the majority of the field could have been mown. The weather was hot and sunny and apart from everyone getting very bitten ankles and legs because of the bitey things in the long grass, we were OK. If the weather had been wet, it would have been miserable because the grass around the water point was very long indeed. Another caravanner pointed this out to the owners when we were all leaving and they said they would cut the grass but perhaps it shouldn't have been dependent on us reminding them? Sadly, it would put us off going again. But it was a small point in a really lovely stay on a really lovely eco farm (and the barn owls, the hares and the fox were a real bonus)

March 2017

One night stay. About ten minute walk from high street, where there are several pubs and restaurants. Very peaceful. Good access. Lovely welcome from the owner, who gave information about local wildlife and walks.
