My kind of CL

Wick farm is my kind of CL.  Rural with great walks, a nice atmosphere and lots of wildlife. Include the lovely friendly owners and I guess you get the picture.  With EHU and a clean toilet and shower for £10/night it's a real bargain. Although no Wifi available I was able to tether my I pad to my phone.  Another thing I liked was the environmental approach the owners had taken from wind turbine and solar panels providing power to the farm and CL to the land management for wildlife. I only had a quick stopover but would be happy to make a longer stay and just wander around the area of the farm.  Burnham is a nice little town with enough pubs and restaurants to keep you going, I had a very good curry in the Cosy curry house.

A little gem

Wick farm is a really good cl. Its very easy to find following the directions on the club site. You can't go wrong, you may think you have but just keep going. The site is totally flat and free draining so we encountered no problems even though we stayed on the wettest late August bank holiday. Facilities are basic but clean and functional. The toilet and shower are a short hike but both work well and no problems. There is loads of info in the large mobile home at the entrance and the town and surrounding area is good to explore. Try finding St Peters church on the beach at nearby Bradwell. Reputedly the oldest church in England. Basic but very calm. Will definitely return to this site.

Peaceful and relaxing place.

We spent 3 nights here (10-12 June2015). This is a lovely CL, very peaceful with horses in the paddock behind us and easy access to the sea wall for walks into Burnham which is a lovely old town with good pubs and eating places.

Quiet site - Excellent value for money

Stayed at this site August 2014.  Easy access and good directions. 5 grass pitches all with electric hookup. You can pitch where and however you want. Next to trees is more shade. Next to fence more sun. Pitches 1 (near entrance) or 5 (at far end of paddock) are best for those who want more evening sun. At £10 per night for 2 adults 2 children and hookup, there are no hidden extras for awnings, dogs etc, you can't go wrong.  There is a basic but clean shower and a seperate toilet, but this becomes easily blocked. There is loads of information in a mobile home on site with all you need to know in the area. Excellent site for dog walks direct from the site and along the river crouch. Excellent for bird watchers and those interested in wildlife Excellent for cycling from the site where the roads are mostly flat. Excellent for relaxing and doing nothing.  The village of Burnham (15 mins walk from site by river or road) has pubs, tea rooms and restaurants and a market on Tuesdays and is much busier at the weekend. Not for you if you want a "kiss me quick" type holiday or break.  In my opinion not much for kids to do in the nearby area. Whilst this is generally a peaceful and quiet site, depending on which way the wind blows, it is also on the final approach for London Southern airport so you can expect some fairly regular (every  hour or so) aircraft noise.  This is also a working farm so at harvest time in particular there is the usual farm machinery.  This was no problem for us but can be for others.  A clear sky at night is great for star gazers. My only criticism is that the paddock grass could have been shorter where the vans were pitched.  During our stay it was not cut and seemed to grow steadily each day mosquitoes being a particular problem in the evening.

Burnhma Wick

Our first visit to a CL site, and now we wouldn't go to anything other than a CL site. Friendly owners with a good information room. A lovely location and a good walk to Burnham via the sea wall. The Shower room is part of the farm building but is certainly adequate. A good place for a relaxing weekend.

Lovely CL

This is a very nice, flat, CL with plenty of space for pitching more or less where you wish. It is a very quiet spot though it is on the flight path from Stansted so you do get occasional Easy Jet flights passing over but not enough to be an nuisance. There is a wind turbine a short distance away from the CL, which if you are very sensitive to noise disturbance could be irritating as it makes a continual whoosing sound, but it is possible to park far enough away so you can hardly hear it, depending how busy the site is of course. There are lovely walks from the site and the area is flat so great for cycling too. Burnham is an easy walk or cycle away and is a very attactive little town with plenty of good eateries. Whenever we ate out we visited the pubs or restaurants in Burnham - no need to go further. One particularly good eatery is The Oyster Smack Inn - smart, modern decor, friendly staff and great food. Quite pricey but worth it. A slight drawback of the site, because it is on an estuary, is that if you want to visit other areas away from Burnham there is a rather long, winding drive until you get to the main roads leading elsewhere. The owners have kindly supplied a wealth of information, which can be found in a static caravan just at the entrance of the CL. The pitching fees are £10 per night, which includes electricity, so very reasonable. All in all a lovely CL and well worth a visit.

Burnham Happy

Have just returned from 3 of the most peaceful days we could wish for. Good flat cycling country, plenty of walks too. Brilliant information office on-site. Maybe a flat mile or so into Burnham itself either by road or by the river walk. The owners are just super; helpful, friendly, on-hand if needed (a call on my mobile phone solicited immediate help) but also unobtrusive. This is a working farm and I think we ought to say thank you to Adrienne and her husband for setting aside this field for our use. Will we be going back? Daft question yes of course.

The Only Way is Burnham-On-Crouch

Idyllic, peaceful site in the lovely Essex countryside. Set on a farm/equestrian centre. The washing facilities are actually in the middle of the farm buildings, which was interesting. Burnham was an easy 10 minute walk away with plenty of pubs, eateries and attractions. Battlesbridge, Bradwell, Maldon, Southminster, etc, all within easy driving distance. Can't think of any bad points except the shower was quite noisy (though worked perfectly, otherwise) and er... that's it! Will definitely be back.

Ideal site, great owners and close to everything!

A lovely site with great facilities run by lovely people and with loads to do nearby. This place has awards for farming practice and wildlife. The seawall is only a field away. Burnham is full of pubs and eateries, the best for food being the Oyster Smack. You must do the 2 hour Seal and Wildlife trip which leaves from the Town Quay, outside the Anchor. Another option is an a hour or so walking across the fields, which brings you to Southminster which has probabally the best real ale pub that you will find anywhere. They dont do food just great beer and a very warm welcome. We usually come back on the train! The only problem is that getting a pitch can be difficult.but the wait is worth it.

A lovely site!

We've just returned from our 4th stay at this lovely site. It is a spacious field surrounded by horses on a peaceful farm. Electric points are well spaced, there is a toilet & shower plus a static caravan at the entrance which is an information room. The high street can be reached either by a 15 minute walk along the lane out of the farm or you can go the other way and head into town along the sea wall. The owners are helpful & friendly and we think £10 per night with electric is great value for money! We will definitely return here but please note that booking is essential as the site is nearly always full!
