Summer2022

A very quiet site with pleasant views. Convenient for Llandrindod Wells. We were welcomed on arrival and shown the facilities. The pitch was slightly sloping with grass needing cutting. Generally the site felt unloved.

Good for bird watching, but too much road noise

We stayed at Caely for 3 weeks as we are currently exploring the UK. It had nice views and was a good location for visiting local places of interest and those a little further afield, our favourites being the Elan Valley, Powis Castle, Croft Castle and Westbury Water Mill Gardens, which were especially beautiful. We had a lovely afternoon watching the Kite feeding at Gigrin Farm, and a wonderful trip on the Vale of Rheidol railway - take a look at the first class carriage, which is so lovely with beautiful painted ceilings. We were allowed to put up our bird feeders, and were lucky enough to see woodpeckers every day, as well as nuthatches, blue tits, coal tits, great tits, red kites, jays, buzzards and many more. We were surprised to see such a variety of birds as the site is quite close to a very busy and fairly noisy road. Others have said that the road noise was minimal, but we found it very intrusive. We chose the site as it advertised WiFi, which is needed for some days working from 'home' in the caravan, but the reception was very poor. We were at the end of the line of pitches, and it was suggested that we move closer to the house, but it would have been a hassle to take the awning down so managed to tether to the phone instead. The hardstanding pitches were a bit soft and uneven, and we had a problem with the electricity tripping out even with just a kettle on, as did those either side of us. Again, this may have been better closer to the house? The pitches have electricity and water but no grey waste, the bin area was clean and tidy and there was an area of long grass for wildlife, in which there were swings for children and a couple of picnic benches. However, the grass around the pitches wasn't mown in the 3 weeks we were there and it would have been helpful to have an information sheet with local information and emergency contact numbers, which is standard in most sites we have visited. It was OK for £15 a night, but we just felt that it needed a bit more TLC.

Easter 2022

Even though the site is on the main A44, traffic noise is at a minimum, entrance drive long and easy to enter, owners were very welcoming giving directions to all the site facilities, water and electric to each pitch, grey water and elsan disposal points and recycling points. Llandrindod Wells only 3 or 4 miles away and Rhayader only 10 miles away, scenery spectacular and even though ground was wet when we arrived and was a little soft, we still managed to site the van on a slightly sloping pitch which was individual being between hedges giving a little privacy.

Lovely CL

We stayed here for 6 nights and found the owners to be really friendly and helpful. Slightly sloping site but nothing major. Loved the sheep, pigs, ducks and geese who you see daily on entering and leaving site. Sadly could not take advantage of the meals as they were renewing their kitchen but not far from local pubs and restaurants.

Update

I am surprised there have been no reviews since 2017. We stayed here for three nights which included a storm in one of the days. The ground coped very well and there was no major issues with softness. Each pitch base a narrow grandstanding for the Caravan or motorhome and plenty of room before the next pitch. Electricity and water to each pitch with waste water emptied to a central point. Essential facilities are well maintained with comprehensive recycling available. The site is well placed for visiting the Elan Valley reservoirs and the Red Kite centre in Rhayader, as well as visits to the coast at Aberystwyth and Borth. All in all a very pleasant site with a nice view from the pitch and a warm welcome from the owners. Booking in experience very easy.

Very welcoming

Have just spent a week at this CL. We had a very warm welcome from the owners who were happy to give us local information. Electric hook up will soon be available and there is a plan to have a toilet/shower block soon. Don't let the lack of a hook up stop you going to this site as the infrastructure is all installed and tested, only the final certificate is awaited. Why not ring them to check if it has arrived? The views from the site are spectacular, across common land and with large hills in the background. Llandrindod wells is only three miles away for a large Tesco and Aldi plus a few other shops. Rhayader and the Elan valley are only eight miles away. The site has water to each pitch and the chemical disposal is easy to use and well thought out with private fencing surrounding the area. On the downside the driveway is a little on the rough side but not terrible and the grass pitches were 'spongy'. There had been some rain and, as the site seems to be on clay, as such the surface of the ground remained soft. This causes the caravan wheel to sink a couple of inches but did not pose any problems when leaving. Take levelling blocks, the site has some subtle inclines. There is some traffic noise from the road but not overly intrusive. Overall a very nice site. Can highly recommend the Severn Side pub just down the road, ignore the fire damage it hasn't affected the main building. Super food and super, friendly staff. Very good prices.
