Unfortunately this CL wasn’t all we hoped it would be. There had been a lot of rain, the owner sent an email saying we may have to park on the gravel. When we arrived the farmer didn’t know we were coming and had let sheep in the field, so there was quite a bit of sheep poo. The ground was absolutely sodden, and we got stuck trying to manoeuvre. The farmer pulled us out, so we parked on a very small patch of gravel. We couldn’t walk on the grass at all. We thought the owner should have cancelled our booking as the ground was unfit to use. We booked at a CAMC site not far away., and left after one night
Excellent Peaceful CL
We have just spent 4 extremely peaceful nights at this excellent CL. So quiet and i cannot add to all the great reviews left by other caravanners other than agree completely . Highly recommended
the perfect get away from it all !!
very quiet and peaceful site, couple of miles from Hemsley completely on its own with the only noise on site being the sheep bleating or owl hooting.
very well kept and easy access.
will definitely be visiting again..
Peace and tranquility.
We spent 7 nights at this peaceful farm site at the end of July. Ideally placed along a quiet country road 2.5 miles from the bustling market town of Helmsley, there are a host of places to visit within a 10 mile radius of the site and numerous walks right from the site over Helmsley Moor and beyond. Pitches are well spaced and the grass is kept nicely mown. Both Jess and Andrew were most welcoming and despite the rather showery weather we had a full and active week enjoying the wonderful scenery of the North York Moors and Ryedale. An excellent location in this beautiful part of the country.
Little Gem
What a beautiful site. Jess welcomed us and explained the layout and where the bins and loo disposal was.(loo disposal is easy and recycling facilities too.)
The very best bit...... Silence, beautiful peaceful silence!
We saw bats at dusk. Heard owls.
Saw hares boxing. Listened to the woodpeckers in the forest.
Night time was spectacular. The sky was lit up like like glitter had been sprinkled in abundance, even the Milky Way can be seen!
Helmsley is a pretty market town, loads of cafes, bakeries, local shops and a few pubs. Friday is market day.
We had a couple in the Royal Oak Pub which was warm and friendly and dogs allowed. There is a castle here too.(National Heritage)
Riverlux is pretty we didn't visit the Abby, but did a massive walk looking down at the Abby.
Andrew and Jess thank you for sharing your beautiful site with us we will definitely return.
Great location - so peaceful :)
We have just enjoyed a 4 night stay at this great CL. It is so peaceful and a perfect location for walking or just relaxing with a book! It was so lovely to hear owls hooting and watch bats darting about at night. We will definitely return one day.
A truly outstanding CL
This was our 3rd visit to this stunning and spacious CL in less than 12 months and I can only describe it as a total haven of peace and tranquility where you can totally switch off from the stresses of everyday life. The location is perfect - amazing walks where you literally see nobody, yet also close to beautiful Helmsley and many other interesting and scenic places to visit. The only problem is that we never want to leave!
Beautiful location - peaceful and quiet
We were welcomed on arrival to this beautiful quiet site next to a working farm with a few young lambs in the nearby field. It is a wildlife haven with owls and many birds in the nearby sheltered trees. Walks and access to stunning moorland scenery are wonderful. Thank you to our hosts for a complete switch-off three days, close to Helmsley and Rievaulx, and even with great mobile signal too!! We will be back!
Peace perfect peace
Over a quarter of a mile up a well maintained private farm track ensures the only sounds you hear are the local wildlife and the few sheep in the adjoining field. My bt phone would only work intermittantly and 3 mifi not at all which made it even more peaceful.
The rectangular site has seven pitches set out, five in the sunshine the regulation distance apart and two in the shade. In the week that we were there only five were in use at any one time. There is a fantastic view on one side partially hidden by a hedge, views through the trees to fields on two sides and the farm on the last one.
The water is on the Cl and the elsan emptying point and rubbish only at the farmhouse a few yards away. The owner welcomed us and told us where things were and then was available at the farmhouse if needed.
Turning left as you leave the site road takes you on a circular 30 miles drive over the moors and Bransdale valley with lovely views but turning right it is three miles into Helmsley with the wonderful Thomas the Baker on the market square who sell an excellent steak pie among other treats. There is also a CoOp for basic needs.
Superb site
Another great stay at Carlton Grange. Location is wonderful and the owners maintain this site to the highest standard. If you want peace and tranquillity then this is a great place to stay. Thanks Andrew and Jess.
