Cracking Easter

Have just spent a most enjoyable Easter break at Castle Hill. To begin, do follow the directions stated, the site is half a mile from the turn off the A49. The lanes are quiet with little traffic, there are a number of passing places and access to the site is good. We received a warm and friendly welcome from both Heather and Julian. The field is large enough to offer plenty of room for 5 vans and is pretty much level, you may need the odd chock but nothing major. Nice and quiet with a babbling brook/stream running along one side, a number of footpaths close to the site leading in all directions, pub within walking distance (The Pound) did not have a meal so can’t comment on food but had a nice pint. A little further afield The Bottle and Glass at Picklescott, good food, good service and a decent pint, say no more. All in all a most enjoyable break on a CL with excellent hosts and bucketfulls of rustic charm, this is why we tow.

Perfect!

A lovely little site, and one where I expect there are alot of return visits, judging by ther other users when we stayed. The site was full but there is enough room between each pitch not to feel crowded. There is certainly a great deal to see within very easy travelling of the site and we would recommend both The Bucks Head in Church Stretton and The Bottle and Glass in Picklescott for good food. Church Stretton has a good range of shops. There is a railway line from far from the site but we were not bothered by the noise and frankly the thing that made the most noise on the site was the sight and sound of several buzzards overhead. You MUST use the directions both arriving and leaving as the roads around the site are narrow but few passing places. We did not see the owners until 24 hours after our arrival but they were helpful. A beautiful site and the fact that we were blessed with the most beautiful weather added up to yet another wonderful caravan holiday.

Our Favourite CL

Just returned from another lovely stay on this, our favourite CL. As always the welcome was warm and friendly, the grass cut short, the site peaceful and tidy, the views to the hills delightful, what more could anyone wish for. In addition to all this the area has much to offer to all abilities from the very fit who want walks on the Long Mynd to gentle strolls up Cardingmill Valley. For those interested in history the possibilities are endless, Ironbridge with its many museums and industrial past is only a few miles away and there are numerous National Trust properties within easy driving distance. Good fly fishing about a mile away and Church Stretton has good local shops and excellent coffee shops. We have always found the road into the site easy to negotiate and never had any problems whatsoever.

Nice Quiet Site

The owners were very hospitable and we had a nice break without having to travel too far from home.  A highlight was a walk through nearby Carding Mill Valley (National Trust land).  I would happily return to this site.   Free range eggs available on site - the owners taught me about about light-sensing automatic door-openers for chicken coops and we now have one for own own chickens. Narrow approach lanes - make sure that you follow the directions in the Sites Directory - not SatNav.

Summer Visited

Have returned to this CL after a space of 20+yrs and found it little change from then, thankfully. The large field is relatively flat although the entrance is a bit narrow and care is required if arriving in a large outfit. The 1/2ml approach from the A49 is along lanes with passing places but should offer no problems as the roads are quiet. The is a good pub and cafe just as one turns off the A49 in Leebotwood so within easy walking distance. The site is midway between Ludlow and Shrewsbury for those who need a shopping experience, & there is a Co-op at Church Stretton about 4 mls away. For those interested in walking there are paths from nearby the site, and for the more energetic, both on foot or cycle, The Long Mynd, Caer Carradoc & Lawley hills are close by, with paths & bridleways. Will definitely use again.

Nice site will return

We visited the site at Easter when the weather was snowy (and I am just catching up with reviews). The owners were welcoming, and offered use of their own equipment to aid our problems (not site or caravan related). The pitches are next to a very tempting stream and the local views are very good. We went to the area for the walking, but there are plenty of attractions to suit all within 30 minutes but are limited within 10 minutes drive.

Definitely plan to return and fully recommend to anybody wanting good access to Shrewsbury and Church Stretton and its lovely walking areas.

Peace and quiet

Just enjoyed eight nights on this delightful, well kept CL. Superb scenery surrounds the site, excellent walking nearby and within a short drive. The silence is wonderful and the clear night skies are great. The owners are very helpful and most welcoming. What more can you want? We'll be going again.

Sept 2012

Super site with quite easy access. A tranquil site nestling behind a grade 2 listed farmhouse. A real wow with super walking and fairly easy access to public transport (half mile or so). Much more important is the welcome from friendly owners who are genuinely interested in your stay. Well worth the visit - and I will see you again!!

Castle Hill

We found this site to be delightful, it was reasonably flat, the water was in easy reach for our motor home (which can be a problem on some sites!) There was plenty of room for five vans and it was very quiet. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The footpath opposite the house took you across fields with superb views. We would certainly go there again!
