Paddock camping

if you love horses and steam railways you’ll really love this site! Surrounded by horses in paddocks on 3 sides - and the 4th side overlooks the West Somerset Railway line so you can watch (and listen) to the steam train from your van - or stand in the door and get a wave from the engine driver!! we just had 2 very wet nights there but it was thanks to the very wet sat afternoon that we stayed at the van and had the pleasure of watching 3 return train journeys - if we’d been out for the day we would have missed them! Bicknoller pub is perfect for a drink after a walk up onto the Quantocks, highlight was encountering a small group of deer on the top, but the views are outstanding. Bicknoller village shop is run by volunteers, only open in the morning at the moment (due to covid), it has all the basics and will be doing drinks when the weather is nicer. lots if sheep in the fields so didn’t find anywhere to let the dog off lead, but still lots of lovely walks both in the valley as well as on the top. the CL is down from the main road but we didn’t notice the noise from the road at all, 4g signal was fine but didn’t try TV. the farmers pub is recommended but not if you are in a motor home - limited parking plus a very narrow lane - we were not unscathed 😢
