a quiet getaway

We stayed a week at this quiet site where on a night the only sound was the owl. and we loved it. The field was well spaced out between caravans 4 with lovely views the other one was further back in the field, still with views of the hills and a hard standing. The facility area was clean and easily accessible. The Information hut contained lots of local information as well as books and DVDs if wanted. Plenty of places within driving distance to visit, such as Alwick where there is a castle, garden and a massive bookshop with cafe in an old railway station, nice on a rainy day.

Lovely peaceful site

We stayed here for the August bank holiday weekend. The site was well maintained set in a very quiet area, ample room for 5 units. Fresh eggs and preserves available on site. Great site to discover the beautiful places in Northumberland.

Nice surprise

We were worried about access and arriving at this site but shouldn’t have been, it was very simple. Nicely kept site. No facilities but didn’t matter we used our own. Ami very friendly and willing to chat. Downside was contract machinery speeding past the site practically all day and particularly very early morning which wasn’t a pleasant wake up call when your on holiday. Lovely jams, chutneys etc in info hut, sadly never saw any eggs. Great pub in the village which is about a steady half hour walk but seems longer coming back after a few drinks!

A peaceful gem

We spent almost a week here with our son, wife and 7 year old. It was just perfect. There's a big grassy field with plenty of space to give privacy. The water and waste corner was immaculate. There was a small shed with masses of information about the surrounding area, not to mention fresh eggs ( in season ) lovely jams and chutneys with an honesty box. The small woodland walk adjacent to the site was lovely and very popular with our grandson and Ami's 2 young sons. You know when you meet someone and think ... if I lived nearby we could be friends .... that was Ami! She was unobtrusive, helpful if needed and so friendly. The site is well situated for so many interesting places to explore and we shall most definitely be back! Thank you Ami! William is already planning his next visit ... just a tad far from Bangkok !!

Absolute gem of a site

Visited this perfect site for a week in May 2022. Ami the owner is just delightful. Very pleasant, is there if you need her, but also let's you get on with your holiday. The site is very easy to find, straight off the A1 with no difficult narrow roads to negotiate. Large double gated entrance, makes for very easy access. Large field with plenty of space between sites for 5 caravans, even with full awnings up. Clean and tidy waste and chemical disposal area and 2 clean water taps. There is even a little hut with leaflets of places of local interest and homemade jams. The birdsong is beautiful and we will miss watching the Robins finding food every morning. There is even a lovely woodland walk right next door. We saw an Owl in the daytime, which was amazing. As a seasoned caravan goer, I honestly can't fault this site at all. We certainly hope to go back. Thank you Ami.

Mature Couple

Stopped for 2 nights in September on our way to Scotland and enjoyed the site so much we returned for 3 nights on our way back home. Chose the site initially so that we could turn left on to the A1 to continue to Scotland, having previously had bad experiences staying at sites on the east of the A1 so that we had to turn right on to the A1 to go north. Continued our journey home by travelling west to Wooler and then south on the A697 - good road. Great views from the site and easy access to both the National Park hills and the coast. Attentive and helpful owner. We will return.

Brilliant site!

What a fantastic site! So quiet and peaceful. The lady running it is so friendly and helpful. 1 hard standing pitch, the rest level grass. There is a small woodland walk in the wood right next to the site and you can hear chiff chaffs and yellowhammers calling to each other. Hares will often cross the campsite too. There is a little area by the information hut which has free range eggs, home made jams and chutneys (honesty box for payment). I highly recommend this site!

Beautiful spot

Peaceful, quiet and surrounded by stunning scenery. A warm welcome from Ami, the owner, what more could you want?! The site itself is neat and tidy with all the basic facilities you would expect . Would definitely return when in that neck of the woods again.

Great CL

This is a lovely spacious grassy CL. Very quiet, with plenty of room between each pitch. Smart and tidy fencing around the bins and taps, a tidy information shed, plus jams, pickles and eggs for sale. Plenty of (nice smelling) hand sanitiser points. Lovely friendly owner. Great for exploring Northumberland. We will definitely return. 🙂

A Sightseeing Stay

Very beautiful, peaceful stay at Chillingham Barns. The site is very clean and pretty with a useful information shed, lovely views and plenty of room between each van. Theres also a lovely little wood to walk your dog from the site which is really handy for last thing at night or first thing in the morning. We took a trip to Simonside Hills which was really nice with great views when you reach the top and also went to Dunsborough Castle which took you on a lovely coastal walk then into the ruins if you want to. So much to see in Northumberland so will definitely return here.
