Served It's Purpose

We chose this CL to use as a base whilst walking the South Downs Way and to have a look around West Sussex. Site information was emailed to us at the time of booking. Entrance to site is locked and as we had a long outfit, hubby had to remain on the road whilst I went and 'opened up'. Site very level - we chose a grass pitch - and pleasant views over the fields at the rear. Dogs can be walked over these fields but must be on a lead as stock (sheep and cattle) grazing. EHU is by way of pre payment card which worked fine. Whilst I can't fault the CL, when we did spend time there, the immediate area always felt 'busy'. Lots of vehicle movements at the farm (not just tractors) and the nearby road was busier than expected. Otherwise - all OK.

Great for seeing local attracions and dog walks

This was our first trip in our new motor home, we had great time, lovely views over the countryside and great seeing sheep and cows when you wake up. The toilets and showers were fine if a little dated but the shower was very warm which was great on the cold mornings. Getting about was really easy as the train station is only a 15 minute walk. Great pub in the village  called the Merrell Arms. Would definately come back if we were in the area. Our dog had a great time.

Ideal site for visits to family in the area

Searching for a local site to Rustington that was open all year, we found this site in the hand book, contacted the site by email with our required dates and had prompt reply and confirmed our 2 bookings, The site was easy to find and emailed instructions provided by Tracy easy to follow. Facilities, shower and toilets basic but well cared for always clean and tidy.  There are wonderful county views across the fields and we were surprised how clear the night sky and stars were, relatively unspoiled by light pollution despite being so close to Chichester, Bognor, Littlehampton. Tracy and her husband were very helpful on arrival The site is peaceful with exception of some traffic noise in the morning and evening rush hour as the site is close to the country road, but all together a lovely site and will be using it again when the need arrises

Excellent site

We stayed on this site with our two children after attending an event in west Sussex last year. It really is a lovely site, well looked after, spacious, secure with padlock gate access, cost was great. We were too a little unsure with how much electric we were going to use but in the end it generally worked out about £1 each day extra and then £1 showers which were great too. Only just writing this review as we are looking to book again this year! Definitely a must visit if you haven't already been. Highly recommend!

A Great Location for a Great Family Holiday

We’re a family of four (children of 12 & 9) and we loved this site, we’ve stopped on a number of CLs over the years and we rate this as one of the best (there may be better, but as they probably don’t allow children we’re excluded). Pitch fees at £10 per night for a well-kept site like this are a steal, and although we didn’t change the way we use electric (low wattage kettle and toaster, fridge and hot water) we only used £8.00 over 8 nights. The showers and toilets were kept spotlessly clean. The site is a great size and the pitches well spaced. Accessing the site was a doddle due to the email communication sent by the owners, who were at all times welcoming and friendly. As for things to do there’s no shortage. We went to the Weld and Downland Open Air Museum which coincidentally fell on the day they had a rare breeds show, the National Trust properties of Petworth House and Uppark House (where the gnome trail had the kids entertained for hours), days on the beach at West Wittering (blue flag beach with life guards), and general sightseeing within this beautiful area. If you're into car boot sales, the car boot sale at Ford Airfield on Thursday and Saturday wasn't like any I've seen before, but was worth going to. Thursday was better than Saturday, but do get there early (it opens at 7.30am). However, our favourite visit had to be to Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre. We had a great day here and all the volunteers were so welcoming and knowledgeable – highly recommended. There’s still so much we didn’t see, we could have another holiday in this area, and if we did, we’d have no hesitation in stopping at this excellent CL again.

A Lovely Site

We stayed for 7 nights on this site from the 23-5-15 it was easy to find when leaving the A29 to Barnham. Very friendly hosts. The site is flat and 3/4 open with a tall hedge running alongside the road to minimize the noise. The outlook is fields with cows and sheep or open fields. The gate is number locked all the time. Please remember this is a working farm. The electric is reasonable even if you use it a lot as pitch price only £10 the shower takes 20p's or £1 coins and is as good as your shower at home. The fishing lake is far enough away not to concern parents with young children. You can buy fresh eggs (delicious). The village is a short walk away for the little extras excetra. The Murrell P/H is just the other side of the railway bridge where you will meet Joe and his 2 dogs, food available or in Walberton find the Holly Tree for a good evening meal. All places to visit like Littlehampton,Worthing,Chichester,Arundle and Portsmouth are within easy reach. The reason for a 4* on noise is because there is some traffic noise in the morning (but did not bother or disturb us but might others). We recommend you give this site a visit.

Don't be swayed by some reviews

Just had a four night stay on this site. Really lovely. Hardstanding level and grass pitches are spacious. A bit apprehensive about using electric card for first time, but very happy with how far our money went over the period. Best thing to do is keep an eye on how much you use. Bearing in mind this site is only £10.00 per night with very clean toilets and shower(£1.00) the electric for us only worked out £1.25 a night.  Excellent value. Looking forward to going back to this lovely site in the summer. Don't miss going to the Barham Trading Post nearby, as are lots of places of interest. Only marked the peace and tranquility down to 4 star, as this a working farm, no bother to us.

Good site: One of the better CLs we've stayed on

Stayed on this good CL for 9 nights last February, as it is convenient for visiting our grandchildren. Facilities are a bit worn, but adequate & kept clean; seen much worse on sites charging twice as much. My wife & I could both shower for £1 and the electricity costs worked out at just over £1 per day in winter, so don't be put off by some of the negative comments by other reviewers. Must admit, I'm a fan of this card electric system as it works out as much better value, proving both reliable and easy to use. Owners are very friendly & helpful and the hardstanding area was most welcome as we do not have a 4x4. Enjoyed our stay very much and going back for 11 nights over Christmas.

comments of a previuous review

we have stayed at this excellent CL at varying times of the year for several years and have pitched on every grass pitch during our stays. I am writing this in response to some unfair comments in a previous review, for the following reasons:- There is a good view from every pitch as the caravans are well spaced. The country road that passes the site can be busy during the day as it serves several agricultural establishments in the area but there is very little traffic during the evening or at night. with regards to the electricity our 'van has central heating, microwave, hairdryer and electric ring on the cooker etc. and yet on average the cost rarely exceeds £1 per night. Surely you only pay for what youuse ! I do however have one serious complaint that drastically reduces our enjoyment of staying at this CL and that is that when Mr Brundle mows the grass he does not keep the lines straight !!! Keep up the good work .

Watch the electricity

We stayed in July 2014 in beautiful weather. Very handy for Portsmouth, Chichester, Bognor, Worthing and Brighton. If you get the right pitch adjacent to the field you have a great countryside view, unfortunately those pitches were full and blocked our view. Our friends were on a pitch next to a very busy country road which did disturb them. You pay for any electricity with pre paid cards and we used over £2.00 a night in the height of summer so I wouldn't like to think how much it would be when you needed heat and lighting in the colder/darker months.
