Positives & Negatives!

Firstly lets go with the positives, Friendly owners lovely views with access to walks all around the farmland. Site is all hardstanding so good for wet weather/ wintertime. This is a farm where lots of horse owners arrive with their trailers for riding off road within the farmland. The access road is narrow and will only allow one direction of travel so when you leave the motorway you need to pull in and call the owner to make sure no horse trailers or caravans are leaving the site you don't want to meet another trailer coming the other way the access road is quite long & twisty fine for one direction! Loo emptying point is a long way off the CL & you are asked not to empty your loo during week days 9 to 5 as the disposal point is a couple of metres away from office windows! Of course the other solution would be to move it to the CL location! What is not advertised when you book is the fact that you are only allowed 10 units of Electricity in with the site fee, each service point has a meter on it, I thought that this was against regulations as reselling of Electricity is Not allowed? May be the club could clarify this point? So long as you don't mind the rules and access issues you will enjoy and have a goodtime.

Comment from the CL Owner:

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us.  We carefully manage the access for all our visitors, and believe that we do this efficiently to ensure trouble-free access and exit.

With regards to the EHU metering, we make it clear on all communications and on our website that in colder months we choose to recharge usage above the 10 units included within the pitch fee at cost.

This practice is within the regulations decreed by OFGEM and is now commonplace across many hundreds of CL and commercial sites.

FYI With the advent of electric cars, on-board electric heating and the numerous electric gadgets and heaters that visitors can now use, the metering of EHU usage will become more prevalent.

Good location, some issues

Things we liked Friendly, helpful owners Very good communication prior to arrival Lots of local information provided Plenty to do in the area Walking straight from the site. Lovely outlook from all pitches Sunny pitches for most of the day, with shade in to the evening. Pitch 1 gets the sun for the longest. Pitches are pretty level side to side but do drop away slightly towards the front. Nothing a couple of blocks don’t help with though. Large pitches with plenty of room for caravan, awning and vehicle. Fully serviced pitches with all services on one bollard. Pretty decent Wi-Fi, about 22mb (did slow a bit in the evenings when everyone was using it but still usable) Red Kites and plenty of other wildlife Recycling and food scraps bin Not so keen on The constant noise from the M40. It did lesson slightly with a change of wind direction but was still audible at all times night and day. There were a couple of nights when it sounded like we were pitched by a motorbike race track! The small amount of separation area between pitches 2-5. If you have no awning, you will feel very overlooked by your neighbour. The light on the bollards was quite bright and shone into the rear bedroom. (This may not bother others but we prefer sites with no lighting). The trek to the chemical disposal (though the wheel barrow did help) The horse side of the business made the site much busier than you would expect a CL to be, with horses and walkers coming past the site most days. There is a field that is used for camping by those staying with their horses, as well as a dedicated hard standing above the site. Day riders park on the field below the CL, though there was one day when some misunderstood the instructions and parked directly in front of the pitches. Ted did come by and apologise for this. The horse flies, honestly they were HUGE (We know this is not the sites fault, but have mentioned it as some people are allergic to their bites). Overall this is nice site but not one we will visit again.

Lovely stay!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay. The contact with the owner prior to our arrival was excellent and we received a warm welcome once we had arrived. We saw the site owner daily as he wandered down to check we were okay. The views from the site are fantastic, excellent WIFI and generally a great place to base ourselves. We were on pitch 2 and had some welcome areas of shade. We didn't do too much exploring due to the extreme heat wave but it was close enough to visit Henley on Thames and Marlow. We would recommend and would stay again if we were to be in the area. Kim, Nigel and Max

scenery, wildlife, location...

Just returned from a week at Cholsey Grange with weather that has varied from torrential rain to blistering hot sunshine! The view from all of the pitches is amazing, looking over a valley in the southern end of the Chilterns. the first thing you will notice is the whistling of the Red Kites who miraculously appear whenever humans appear and especially if food is around, but then disappear as soon as they see a camera. You are likely to hear deer and if a very early riser, possibly see them and there's an owl nested close by who enjoys the occasional hoot. and being primarily a riding centre, lots of horses. The location is very good.between Oxford and High Wycombe and with easy access to numerous NT properties within 30 minutes drive and there is much to see in Oxford with a good park and ride, again less than 30 minutes drive. Access is simple, just off the only road south at the M40 Stokenchurch junction and then along a very narrow and quite rough private lane. There are cars parked along the lane, so you need to take care and go very slow, but there is a good "traffic management" scheme implemented by the owner to avoid meeting horseboxes!!! We had pitch 5, which is at the far end. It is under a large oak tree, so we found a thick coating of tree sap on our awning and the roof and rear of our caravan, but it provides good shade when sunny. Some of the pitches slope and it looks as though the slope increases to the extent that pitch 5 slopes in both directions, so you may need to ensure you have supports or ramps for levelling, It is also around 200 metres to empty the loo, with a curious request not to empty your loo during office hours - the emptying point is a lift up grille that is outside the farm office. I took the car to empty the loo as I have quite severe mobility issues and can't use the provided cart and walk with my stick at the same time. TV reception is amazing with a choice of several transmitters (the joy of being on top of a hill) and it is without doubt the best WiFi (free!) I have ever experienced on any caravan site.

Excellent CL

Stayed here for ten nights and loved every minute. Lovely memories of the majestic Red Kites and evening appearances of the Dear. Easy access from M40 and close to many attractions. A very well looked after and managed CL. Many good walks from the site in a very safe environment. If you’re looking to stay in this area don’t look twice. Total tranquility.

Our top one!

We are new to motorhoming but of the sites we've visited so far this is our NUMBER ONE. We would definitely go again. The highlight for us was the walking: miles of it; all clearly marked; mostly off road and no people!

Fabulous Week Had by All

Easy to find from the M40 motorway. Five pitches all with views over the hills. Plenty of red kites on view but watch out when you BBQ. Lovely walks directly from the site. We had fantastic weather and to top it all had fantastic neighbours. We all got together late afternoon on the lawned area in front of the vans for afternoon drinks. Sometimes its not the place but the company you have and the friends you make. One slightly drizzly evening Ted allowed us to use one of his out buildings to continue our daily ritual and even contributed with a song about a ferret. All good fun. Thanks to the Cholsey Northerners for a fabulous week. Lets do it all again next year!.

West Motorhomer

What an absolute gem of a site with excellent full service facilities with superb wi fi. The views and surrounding scenery is stunning along with seeing Red Kites landing next to our motorhome to appreciate these wonderful birds. The walks from the site are fantastic to explore the surrounding area. Have booked again for the autumn to see the colours of the trees changing. The owner Ted gave us a wonderful welcome and was very helpful with anything we needed. I would strongly recommend a stay here.

Another Day in Paradise

Such a beautiful setting in the Chiltern Hills, you could easily imagine the characters from Darling Buds of May walking around the farm. One of the best CL'S in the club network with easy access to so many of the surrounding areas including Henley,Marlow,Windsor,Oxford and even London on the train. Fully serviced hardstanding pitches and superfast Wifi. Fantastic views of the Chiltern Hills and not a house in site. You will probably see more wildlife than people on your walks from the site be it Red Kites or Deer. Easy access from the M40 less than five minutes and also an easy stroll into Ibstone with its village green and cricket club and picturesque cottages.
