Lovely peaceful site

We recently stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Only our 2nd stay at a C.L. site without electricity but it wasn't a problem. Dog Walk from the site which leads on to the Cateran trail. Lovely scenery and amazing wildlife. we watched the red Squirrels eating peanuts from the feeder right next to our caravan. We will definitely be back.

In the midst of wonderful wildlife!

Ok so don't over expect on the facilities for this site, which are basic but adequate. But do be aware of the fantastic wildlife you can see and hear whilst staying! We stayed just one night and went for a walk in the nearby forest, we saw red squirrels and two pine martens just a few yards away. The night time is filled with Owls of all description! Wouldnt have missed it for a moment - its different if you normally have a fully serviced pitch but really well worth it!

Our favourite type of CL

Basic CLs without hookup are becoming rare. They are the easiest to get a stance at short notice now that the whole country seems to have taken up camping. The site was not as dark as we had expected, in fact we were in full sun for most of the day. On a wet day it would have been gloomier. The facilities are good, the toilet emptying involved lifting a heavy lid which for over 80 year olds needed two of us to lift. The entrance is off a quiet A road, on which you have to stop to open the gate while you hope no traffic is coming! The price of £10 is now to be expected, 2 years ago it would have been expensive. We liked the CL as it fulfilled our expectations, the location and facilities were good and the grass cut and not left lying. The people we spoke to on the phone were pleasant and helpful, we did not meet them.

A small rural basic site with great wildlife!

We booked this the day before and stayed one night. Perfect secluded spot- is dark and not ideal for everyone but perfect for what we needed. We didn't see anyone and were the only unit on the site in early Sept 2021 (several other places we visited in north Scotland were packed) The water pressure is low so be prepared to take your time if you need to top up but I watched the birdlife whilst waiting!! The loo disposal was fine. They have feeders set up around the site and red squirrels visited these so we had great views of them in the morning as well as many coal tits, chaffinch, great tits, a nuthatch, greater spotted woodpecker and several tree creepers were around too. Owls could be heard at night. Walks from the site. A little pricey for a very basic site so perhaps that is why it was so quiet when other places were busy but I would recommend a visit for a night or two.

Shady Site

This is quite an isolated site and very shady due to the pine trees, which did smell lovely. It is a peaceful site but as it is surrounded by trees the views are limited. The grass was neatly cut. We were only there for one night and so thankfully the chemical toilet did not need emptying as it appeared that you would just have to empty it straight into a septic tank. For that reason I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

Peaceful weekend

Spent a very pleasant weekend here exploring Ben Vrackie and the river and forest around Pitlochry with our dog. These non ehu grass sites are becoming a rarity but worth seeking out for peace and quiet. Great communication with helpful owners. Fairly flat and level grass well mown. Water pressure at standpipe is low so took a while to fill the aquaroll and Elsan point drops direct into septic tank which isn’t pleasant. Use your grey water hose into the undergrowth. Few vehicles use the road but there are occasional logging lorries. We were not bothered by any traffic or other noise. Lots of birds and other wildlife around. £10 per night in honesty box or bacs details can be provided. Given the location in Perthshire and trees/shade the midges and mossies were not to bad. Access from Pitlochry via A9 probably simplest but the local road A924 has some narrow sections (many A roads in Scotland have single track sections!) but is fine if you look ahead for passing places. Avoid the route via the Erador distillery the sat nav wants to send you. Arrive, choose your pitch and set up. Simple. Coop in Pitlochry has everything you need. Caravan parking is available at 2 car parking sites in Pitlochry if you want to stop on your way and motohomes can stop over at Ferry Road car park. Nice pub at Moulin nearby (not walking distance) We live about an hour away and will be back. Perfect location to explore the wilder parts of Perthshire.

Difficult approach

This site is located approximately 10 miles outside Pitlochry. The approach involves narrow roads with passing places and some very sharp bends. The site itself, once found is a small field surrounded by trees with difficult signposting. Having missed the sign I travelled up a long rocky unmade road to the Estate house and open gardens and was redirected down to the site recovering the difficult road. The site is basic and at the time of visiting was muddy and caused concern about being bogged in. Great care is given to the Avtex GPS avoiding narrow roads when driving larger motorhomes and this needs to be taken into consideration when visiting this site.

Our kind of site

Stayed here in February but no issues with soggy ground. Rural, quiet, easy to get to and had a small herd of deer for company in the evening! Stacey was very helpful and they accept payment by BACS, very handy if you're arriving late and want a quick get-away in the morning. Definitely on the approved list for the next time we're in the area.
