Summer 2020 staycation

We had a lovely couple of nights here at the start of our staycation. It’s ideally situated and has easy access to York. We cycled in and it was really good as York has lots of designated cycle ways. The site itself is like a secret garden! You approach down the driveway and the CL opens up in a beautiful wooded glade. The pitches are hard standing with EHU and water points on each pitch. I’ve seen some reviews mention road noise, but to be honest you don’t notice it. This is another CL that we’ll definitely return to. The owner can’t do enough to help before you arrive, and personally escorts you down into the CL to show you the pitches

Pleasant and secure site

A pleasant and peaceful site and close proximity to cycle routes and footpaths. Walking into York for the day is achievable if your a keen walker. A security electric gate is situated at the entrance to the site which is very reassuring. Well kept grass area and waste service station. Site felt very private. I most certainly will use this site again in the future and fully enjoyed my stay here. 😄

Nice CL within easy reach of York

We enjoyed our 2 week stay at Foss Dyke over Xmas & NY. Nice grass pitches if you visit in the Summer or we were on a large, well drained hardstanding area overlooking fields and woods. Plenty of wildlife including deer, owls, squirrels (be warned though, the squirrels did chew our electric cables). Secure / gated site with easy access via a single track lane. Nearest Park & Ride into York is 1.5 miles and a huge Tesco 2 miles. Track onto pitches is a bit bumpy and muddy in bad weather but not a real problem. Good EHU & water supply with easy access to chemical toilet disposal point. Good TV reception. A couple of good pubs / restaurants about 1/2 mile away in village. For those who haven't visited York before, it is a really lovely old walled city with many shops, restaurants, bars etc. cobbled streets and a great market. A very busy city with restricted parking and lots of traffic so take one of the many P&R's that run every few minutes.

Absolutely lovely

We had originally booked onto an alternative CL site in the York area but on arrival was disappointed, so decide to move on. After quickly logging onto the CMC app, we found Foss Dyke. A quick call and we were booked in for that evening and the following one. Gill was outside waiting our arrival. She was very helpful and informative with regards to the local village and bus/walking routes into York. Due to the size of our unit we were on the hard standing area, which suited us. Lovely spot on a secure gated site. The A64 can be heard very faintly in the distance but certainly nothing to interrupt the peace of the woodland area. Spent time squirrel 🐿 spotting. If you require toilets or showers then this is not a site for you. We thoroughly loved it and will definitely be back.

Best cl for York

We have been going to this cl for 5 years now and we love it, Gillian is lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The site is easy to find and the village is about a 10 min walk away it has 4 pubs a couple of shops and a chippy. It’s so easy to get into York, just a quick bike ride in along traffic free cycle paths. You could walk it too it’s about 4 miles to get to cliffords tower and the centre of York. Especially good when the races are on as you can watch them from the cycle path. Highly recommended!!

First Time CL Stay

We have just had 2 nights at this delightful CL. This was our first time using a CL after almost 7 months of caravanning and we certainly enjoyed it. There is slight road noise from the A64 but nothing that would disturb you too much, in fact the pheasants and Guinea Fowl were much noisier! The site is level and well kept and also very secure thanks to a coded gate. Bishopthorpe Village is less than 10 minutes stroll away with some good pubs (highly recommend the Woodman for food), and a Co-op store and York itself is accessible via a lovely walk along the river or a more direct route via the racecourse. We were sorry to hear of Gillians recent bereavement but were very grateful that she had honoured the bookings she had and wish her all the best for the future. At just 30 minutes away from home I feel that this will become our "Go To" CL for quick after work getaways.

Foss Dyke

Stayed twice in a very, very wet September as stopovers on our way to and from Scotland. The first time we were directed to a pitch where our motorhome wouldn't get stuck - and it didn't. The second time the owner was so helpful as the CL was too wet for us to get on and she put us on to a temporary hard standing pitch where we could connect to both power and water. We were very grateful and can't thank her enough. We can't wait to go back as it's so convenient to the park and ride etc. and there's even a filling station with easy access close by.

Muddy

This site would be very nice in good weather but when I visited in mid September it was already very wet and muddy. More periods of heavy rain only made things worse with deep water-filled ruts making daily entry and exiting precarious. Obviously the owner cannot control the weather but new arrivals were still being let on resulting in churning up the ground even more. I appreciate that owners don’t want to let people down but there comes a point when they are not doing visitors any favours by continuing to take bookings without warning of the very muddy and uncomfortable conditions. Had I been aware of the conditions I would not have used this site. Siting and egress of caravans was only possible using a mover. The location is very convenient for York with a Park & Ride close by. It is also secure behind coded and locked gates. The usual facilities are very good with water provided on each pitch. It is very quiet with much wildlife about.

A good site

We stayed here for a weekend in York. We had an excellent welcome with good information about the local facilities and access into York. The link into the city via the local bus was excellent. The site was good, although there was fairly constant low level noise from the bypass. It was very shaded from the trees which was a little disappointing with no views of the surrounding countryside at all. The waste and recycling facilities were excellent.

Gorgeous site

This is the best cl site we have stayed on, even has its own woodland in front of your caravan!! It's 5 mins from York park and ride.  We stayed here while I did the York 10k and is perfect for that and exploring in York.  The owner was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended we will be back!
