caravan stay

Excellent certified 5 pitch caravan site. Well kept, and site owners very friendly and helpful. Each pitch is hard standing and has its own 16A electric hookup point. Just a single tap. No toilets or showers, but we use our own.Green toilet fluid is essential There is a railway nearby, so you can hear the trains passing, but doesn't cause a problem. Out from the site the scenery is excellent. Close to Morecambe . There is a lot of dog friendly pubs nearby The access road to the site is only a single lane and is quite busy (but there are passing points) Will definitely return to this site when we are in the area

Depends What You Want From A CL

We chose this CL because of its location as there were specific things we wanted to do in the immediate area. Booking was straightforward with the owner who was super friendly both on the phone and on arrival. An email confirming the booking also provided comprehensive directions, local information and suggested walks. Access is down a single track lane with passing places and didn't cause us any problems. The pitches are in the owners front/side garden and I would describe them as compact. We were pitched on hard standing by the owners garage and that suited us just fine - no complaints at all. However, I would imagine that if all five pitches are occupied, complete with awnings, it might be quite tight. In the main, the site is peaceful but there is some train noise however this didn't cause us a problem. Plenty of walking straight from the site south to Morecambe and north towards Carnforth and beyond - I caught the train to Arnside and walked back using quiet lanes, Bay cycle route, Lancaster canal and Lancashire Coastal Path. The price per night is at the top end of a CL with no facilities - at the time of our stay it was £25 per night plus £1 per night per dog plus £1.50 for an awning. However, all this is made clear at the time of booking so it's really about choice.

Train noise

The site is quite small and the pitches are similarly close together. Arrival was made easy by very comprehensive directions and a map provided by the owners to avoid heading down a satnav route unfriendly to caravans. The main problem form our perspective was the train noise. At peak times, trains run every 10 minutes or so and goods trains continue all through the night. With the line only 300 yards away it made it difficult for us to sleep. The site has a single water tap for tank filling and grey waste can be routed into the surrounding hedges. With two small steps up to the chemical toilet disposal, it's not easy to empty it without 'splashback'. Other than that, the site surroundings were pleasant and well maintained but there were no "views" from the site. Access to the major attractions of Morecambe, Blackpool, Lancaster, Forest of Bowland and the Lake District were good with easy access to the A6 and M6. The beach is only a few hundred yards away and easily walked in ten minutes, where there is a very pleasant cafe.

Convenient

Recently spent a very enjoyable week here. The owner managed to get us in after we were let down at the last minute. The site is in a great location with great walks from the site along the coast. Yes the site is very small and you do feel a bit on top of each other. Access is easy, however the road to the site is a little narrow and can be quite busy but not really a problem. Pitches are level and hard standing. I do think it’s a little pricey though at £26.50 a night with awning. Toilet emptying point needs improving as well. Overall, great location but very small site for 5 vans and a little on the expensive side.

Ok for a couple of nights

Very compact site, not really any privacy if you want to sit outside due to the unusual layout, cleverly designed to get the maximum of vans in a very small space which is part of the owner’s garden. Our view was their bungalow. As we were in a motorhome we stayed local and walked along the canal, to Lancaster in one direction and Carnforth in the other, pleasant enough but no nicer than our local canal walks. Walking on the shore/beach for any distance wasn’t really feasible so disappointing for us and our dogs. The site charges for dogs although nothing is provided for them ( I know this is quite usual for many sites but I fail to understand how it’s justified). There is also a charge for WiFi, this was free on our previous site. The plus points were the pitches are flat, no ramps needed, it was clean and tidy and a major one for us, adults only !

Nice site

Nice site a couple of minutes walk from the shore at Morecambe Bay. Ideal walking along the Lancashire Coastal Path - we walked to Carnforth & then back along the canal. Also handy for the Arnside & Silverdale area which are well worth a visit and the south part of the Lake District is also in easy reach. The views across Morecambe Bay to The Lakes are superb from the shore. This isn't a criticism, just advice: the road to the site off the A6 is narrow and quite busy at it leads to a communal car park, a camp site and a cafe. There are a few narrow passing places, but bear this in mind. SP 27th June 2021

Very compact but well kept site, very near beach and views over bay

The site is very well kept, being almost part of the owners' garden, but it is also very compact, with one pitch across what it is in effect the site entrance. There is an extra pitch on a separate area (which one hopes is not used to accommodate a sixth caravan). The pitches are unusual in having hard standing next to them formed of close fitting concrete slabs which make it very difficult to pitch a porch awning. There are a number of extra charges for visitors and cars, which are understandable given the small size of the site. The facilities are well kept, though toilet emptying is not easy, being on a raised plinth, and the rinsing tap from a storage tank is difficult operate - I had to use our own water bottle to clean the toilet out. The site owners were friendly and welcoming. The location is very pleasant, just a short walk from the beach overlooking Morecambe Bay, with stunning sunsets during a very warm and sunny week. Our reason for staying here was to walk the Lancaster Canal, which runs through Bolton le Sands, and we had two very enjoyable walks, one up to Tewitfield terminus, the other into Lancaster, on both occasions returning by bus which stops in Bolton le Sands. For local shopping there is a very new well supplied Coop. We were aware of the noise from the main line railway, including at night, but didn't find it too disturbing.

Peaceful well kept small CL

Just had a week at this terrific peaceful, well kept CL in Bolton-le-sands called Freshfields. Thank you David Wraith for the recommendation. Owners Janet and Brian could not have been more helpful and informative. Yes it is a little hairy on the road to the site and yes there is no toilet or shower but that did not matter. Weather was excellent which obviously helped. Would definitely stay there again but not a bank holiday next time.
