Value for money

This is a working farm. On arrival we were greeted by the owner who guided us onto our hardstanding pitch (slightly sloping,) set back from the grassy area and close to the cow barns. We did however ask for hardstanding. There was already one caravan on this area. It is a tight area for two if you were to put out a canopy or an awning. The grassed part of the CL is well manicured and has lovely views looking up the valley. Throughout the day the trains run frequently along the lines to the rear of the CL. I slept soundly. There are sheep, cows and many cats and all the rural sounds and smells and a small brook that runs at the bottom of the CL. This would be ideal for families with children as they would enjoy the animals as well as the sunken trampoline. This CL has a decent toilet and shower. There is also a toilet for the disabled. There is an honesty box for the use of the shower. There apparently is a village and pub a short walk away. For ÂŁ20/ night inclusive of electricity this CL is good value for money.

WOW of a CL!

Easy to find as long as you follow the directions! VERY picturesque site and a FABULOUS greeting from our host Margaret. Even tho on grass this was the flattest pitch we've EVER been on, didn't even have to level up the van. We had the furthest pitch from the entrance so had the pleasure of watching the calves and lambs around us. A serviceable shower for exclusive use. Carlisle had some interesting sights including the castle and we also visited Gretna Green. But our biggest surprise (if you like that sort of thing) is the church in Wreay, St. Marys - a must visit! The Plough Inn, in the village, offered a welcome beverage, or two, on a hot day! But the best thing about this site is Margaret - she's the busiest farmer and yet she always had time to chat and answer the 100s of questions we posed - she made this visit a whole different experience for us - not just a stay but an education thrown in!! One point I would mention is that there is a busy train track on the embankment behind the farm with trains running through the night...so take ear plugs if like me you're a light sleeper!!

Wonderful welcome in Wreay

Margaret welcomed us on our first visit to this lovely quiet C.L., Well tended grass and hard standing and a warm welcome by the farm cats. A peaceful site and everything we want in a pleasant location. The only minor issue was a bit of noise from the nearby main railway line. We will return.

Just brilliant

I have just returned from spending 8 nights at this lovely CL. I was originally booked in for 4 nights but my Land Rover died on the M6. It was terminal! I rang Margaret to say that I might be a little late arriving and she immediately offered to come to collect my caravan from the hard shoulder. That wasn't necessary because the AA had already sent a recovery truck to pick up the Land Rover and to tow my caravan to Ghyll House Farm but was typical of the kindness and welcome I received on arrival. So I spent a week at the site until my new vehicle arrived and the auto salvage company had hauled the Land Rover away. In the end I didn't mind being stuck without a vehicle. The weather was lovely, the site is immaculate and the sheep and cats kept me amused. I was also very grateful for the number of offers to fetch any shopping I needed from members of the club. I look forward to visiting Ghyll House Farm again but without the stress of dealing with a terminally broken towcar!

What a Fantastic CL

Just left the CL after a wonderful stay of 3 nights. The location is ideal for 'get away from it all' but close enough to civilisation for shopping experiences. Close to the Lake District attractions and Hadrian’s Wall so plenty to do there but the local area holds the real gems to visit. Dalston not too far away is beautiful and the local pub in Wreay is walking distance from the site. The pitches are spacious and flat. Water, grey waste and CDP all excellent as is the power supply. Wonderful welcome from Margret and plenty of entertainment with animals to watch and the ingenious water slide on the hill. Met lots of really friendly fellow members and had thoroughly brilliant time in what must have been the hottest part of the year so far. Many thanks to Margret. See you again soon.

Lovely farm site

Had wonderful week here. All grass summer pitches face towards the beautiful views and the sunshine. Lots of grass for children to play on. Ideal for joint family get-togethers. Hardstandings good for winter (still with the views). Very friendly family. Clean shower room and two toilets (one an access toilet). Trains to watch from site for children. Family-run beauty therapy and hairdresser on site. Short walk into historic village of Wreay, with village trail to amazing church, mausoleum and small heritage centre. On the way back explored pretty little memorial wood near the railway bridge. Visited Hadrian's Wall twice, Lanercost Priory, also Carlisle and the coast.

Marvellous site

We stayed here on a stopover from Scotland in early May. We were most impressed by it. The site was well-cared for and owner very friendly. Beautiful farm site. Weather was so good we popped over to the lakes via the back roads and in just 40 minutes we were looking at bassentwaite having come across unknown areas and views of the northern lakes which were delightful.

Top rated CL

We have used this CL many times, mainly as a stop over on our trips from Perth to various parts of England and return. As always we arrived today to a very warm welcome from Margaret to find the site beautifully kept with the grass neatly cut. There have been numerous improvements including the removal of a fence post that used to be tricky to get past and a vastly improved hard standing area. The facilities were up to their usual high standard. Must ensure we have a longer stop next time we are here.
