very peaceful and well maintained site

Enjoyed stay here, bus stop at the end of the road so could leave motorhome while visiting Colchester. got off bus at the top of town but had to go to the bus station to return home. Pub nearby with good food. Very friendly at the site, would happily return if in the area

We will return

Lovely spacious site, easy to find from the handbook directions. Open to offer views but not exposed and some planting on the grass area. Plenty of room to pull into the entrance off the road, gated site monitored by CCTV, clear instructions on what to do if no reply to bell on the gate. We'd booked a hardstanding for our motorhome but were advised we could use a grass pitch should we wish. Forecast was for wet weather during our stay so stuck with the hard standing and we had a choice of either of the 2 both of which were very level reinforced gravel, although I suspect we would have been fine on the grass. Lovely views over the countryside from all the pitches, nice touch with communal BBQ - charcoal, and seating area. A water tap was directly opposite to the hard standings in addition to the one by the recycle facilities. There is a facilities building with a shower, charge but a clear timer, toilet and washhand basin. A decent information room contains a sink, washing machine and drier, clear charges which were very reasonable, a bench to work at with a chair, free WiFi which was very good and fast, laminated map of walks from the site to borrow, very nice touch. As we were both poorly for our visit we only managed a walk into the village on our last day. Footpath all the way, large play area, lovely millennium green with footpaths leading from it, pub, shop and post office plus the East Anglia Railway Museum which has a cafe and trains that run on the branch line to Sudbury and over the viaduct to Manningtree for connections to the main lines. Matt and Jenni were friendly chatty and helpful without being intrusive. We will return to explore the area properly.

A happy new year.

We stayed here over the new year for a couple of nights and after a warm welcome we walked into the village where there is a small shop and the obligatory pub. We had a lovely lunch at the pub on New years day in front of a roaring fire, after an unexpected but enjoyable trip to the East Anglian Railway Museum which is about about a 15 minute walk away. The site is well kept and the toilet and shower were an added bonus although far too cold to make use of at that time of year (it's now April writing this review), however we would definitely recommend this lovely CL site.

Nice site

Second time we have stayed here, very friendly place, very quiet, nice walks from site, we liked the information hut which was very useful with map and local pub info. Shower expensive but lashings of hot water. Will come again

Well maintained and peaceful site

We arrived after a long drive to be met by the owner who gave us all the information we needed for our stay. The van was parked and we visited Colchester using the bus. But we could easily have walked to the local railway station. The Swan pub is 10 minutes walk away and has a very busy restaurant. The site is easy to locate and the new hardstanding areas are ideal. We would recommend this site. Excellent value for £15.00 a night

A well appointed CL

A lovely spot close to many surrounding attractions. A well maintained site with good facilities which are kept clean and functioning. My only criticsm is that for £15 a night I would have expected the hot shower to be included and not have to use a £1 meter - pushing the price up to £16 a night which is too high for a CL.

7 night stay

Just left this site after 7 nights access is via a very narrow lane don't follow your Sat Nav as we did, however phoned Matt and he came out to meet us! Small compact site with laundry,Wi Fi and shower/toilet however there are some static caravans adjacent to the C.L. but these are not a problem.

Peaceful

We arrived Friday night about 5.30 pitched up you ring bell if owners are home they come over if not you just pitch and they catch up with you during your stay.  Beautiful site clean toilet and shower which was operated by a £1.00 coin machine for 10 minutes.  We walked down to the Viaduct which took about 10 minutes lovely pub called the Swan great food.  My son thoroughly enjoy the Board walk around the nature reserve under the viaduct.  Steam Railway museum 5 minute drive. We will be returning for many more times.
