Wonderful site

A gem of a site, Had 10 fab nights here, warm welcome from the very friendly owners. easy access, loveley views, whats not to like, we will definitely be back. Bob Pauline and Nipper the dog.

Greeted on arrival. Easy parking pitch. Elevated above Red Wharf Bay. Stunning views. Easy access to surrounding towns and villages etc. Woke naturally by beautiful bird song. Weather was beautiful. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Can highly recommend setting up here. Panton Arms and The Ship pubs offer excellent food but avoid The Bull...food not good and lacking atmosphere. Be warned the homemade food portions at the Ship are huge and gorgeous. Panton Arms very nice. Fab pizza! Books up very fast. All in all a fab 4 days. Loving little Diesel the site doggie..gave us a lovely warm welcome 🥰 Thankyou...We'll definitely be staying again 🧡

Breathtaking views

We spent 10 days at this lovely site. It should have only been 7 days, but we loved it so much, we asked Mrs Barber if we could stay longer. She managed to squeeze us in for another 3! The views over the bay are beautiful. The pitches are hard standing, and very useful as we did have a lot of rain! But it did not dampen our stay. Mr and Mrs Barber, were most welcoming and friendly. I wish we lived nearer, not in Suffolk! As we would definitely make this site a regular stop.

Weekending at Gwel y Wawr

We had a weekend away here in mid October. Rain soaked weekend forecast, but we set off anyway. When we arrived the owner was waiting to greet us with rain water dripping off her hat. The site has five hard standing pitches, but only two you can get to easily without driving over grass, pitches four and five. It was indeed very wet under foot, so good job we were allocated Pitch 5 and did not have to negotiate the grass. Only one other pitch was taken. The site has toilets, which was handy. £20 per night, winter price because of “extra electricity used for heating”. One of the best things about the site, at least for me, was the view. You can see Red Wharf Bay from the back of the site (and the Ship Inn if you know what you are looking for). We parked up so that in the morning we could throw open the back doors of the van and look at the view; provided it had stopped raining by then! Another handy thing about the site is that the Bull pub is almost next door, literally 50m away. Two obvious things to do direct from the site are either to walk down to the sea shore and the Ship Inn for lunch; or to walk to Pentraeth Forest where, apparently, there are red squirrels; or combine the two. Because of the weather we went for option one. We walked along the A5025, need to take care of the fast moving traffic, but there is pavement, but did not take the road heading down to the sea on the other side of The Bull, but continue a bit further, past a little industrial estate, where there is a path on the left, much nicer than road walking. When you get down to the sea you hit the Anglesey coast path, head left and this will take you all the way to the Ship Inn. Took an hour to walk to the pub. The rain mostly held of all the way, just some light drizzle; although the streams we crossed over were gushing. The Ship Inn is a perfect harbour side pub right on the sea front. It serves Kenneally Bitter brewed specially for the Ship Inn, or so I as told. Nice food. There is another eatery a few doors up called The Boathouse. After lunch we decided to walk along the coast path a bit further to the beach on the other side of the headland. walked back along the road up to the A5025 and then along the old railway line back to the camp site. Despite the rain we had a great weekend at Gwel y Wawr.

Excellent CL, we will definitely be back

Just back from a lovely couple of days at this CL. We arrived at 1pm and received a lovely warm friendly welcome and quickly shown to our pitch by the owner. All the pitches are on hard standing with EHU and with views across red wharf bay. For the first time we decided to leave our front window unscreened, it was lovely to wake up in the morning to the view in front us. There is a nice pub within 100 yards the Bull which does a good carvery, extensive menu and hand pulled bitter. A bus stop outside the entrance if you want to go further afield. A narrow lane down the side takes you to the beach. We walked down and took the footpath to the Ship inn, had a pleasant lunch. Yes definitely be going back in the near future. Only one minor problem for a motorhome was emptying the grey waste which has to be emptied at the elson point but we will know for next time and take our wheeled waste container. Not an issue at all really.

Loved this site

Wonderful weekend overlooking Red Wharf Bay. Stunning little site. Owners were so welcoming and as this was our first ever trip with our van, they helped us both on and off the pitch. Only 5 hardstandings so lovely and quiet. Clean toilets onsite, no showers though but we knew this. Pub in walking distance and you can even walk to the famous Ship Inn down at the bay if you fancy a longer walk (about 45 mins). We would definitely recommend.

Due to circumstances we found ourselves needing to move sites at short notice and found this CL not too far away from where we were. The owners were amazing in accommodating our unit for a week and the welcome by Mr & Mrs Barber not forgetting Diesel the dog can only be described as excellent. The view from the front window is amazing! We were lucky enough to be on total hard-standing as three of the pitches, although the bases and exit are hard-standing you need to drive over grass to get there. There is some slight road noise but nothing that you can say intrudes on your stay. The owners have clearly thought about the site and rather than using mains water for rinsing the waste and toilet they use an IBC to collect rain water which is more than adequate....trust me the rainfall we had while there would probably have kept them going for a while! The beach it literally 10-15 minutes walk away where dogs can be exercised and the local pub offers a warm welcome with food and drink available all day. They say no reversing....on 4 of the pitches this is true but if you have a large unit like ours the hardstanding pitch is easier to reverse out of CL than trying to turn round, especially if the weather is not good. Overall the only negative for this site is that it starts at £17.00 per night for 2 adults, from 1 October this increases to £20.00 per night which is a little more than we would normally pay for a CL, in fact the site we stayed at following our stay including showers etc was on £19.50 per night. The question is would we return and the answer is yes we would! Many thanks.

A Good 'un

I can only echo what everyone has said so far. The view is excellent, the welcome warm and the facilities cleaned daily. Access off the main road is easy and although passing traffic can be heard it is never intrusive. Levelling blocks are required but it is nowhere near as steeply sloping as you might think. The stroll down the lane to Red Wharf Bay (about a mile) is gentle and just long enough to work off a meal or to work up an appetite!! The local convenience store is part of the petrol station and has a comprehensive range on offer but for more choice a short ride to Benllech will give you access to small Tesco, Co-op or Spa stores.

Best view ever from a CL.

We stayed in early July on this site. Just a short three night stay. Everything about the site was great. Very friendly host, Lovely view of Red Wharf Bay, fairly easy walk down and around the Bay to one of the most welcoming pubs with lovely food. It is years since we were in Anglesey, it will be months before we are back, and we know where we will be staying.

Lovely CL

We've just come back from a lovely weekend in Anglesey at gwel y wawr CL ,the view over red warfe bay was fantastic and the site is very well run,the owners couldn't do enough to help they provide blocks for the front of the caravan to make the most of the view and the toilets are spotless,we will definitely be returning oh and a pub 150 yards away doing food. Thanks V Wilson
