Great base for visiting beautiful areas of North Devon

The CL is positioned brilliantly to enjoy the sites of North Devon. We had expected there to be a toilet after reading the reviews; this is usually our minimum requirement; our choice. We mentioned to the owner that we’d expected a toilet and it turns out, after one bad review about it, it was removed which is a shame. The caravan site by the side of the CL does have toilets and showers. We were really surprised to be told we were not welcome to use the toilet there when it was available. We’ve used two other CL’s this year with a similar set up & it was wasn’t a problem for them at all. I do think the write-up about the site should include this information as it’s very misleading having a review mentioning a toilet. We loved having the animals around, especially Thelma & Louise the pigs! The fully serviced patch is great, the recycling and Elson point is immaculately kept and so are the CL pitches and grassed areas. I probably wouldn’t book again without a loo; personal choice, & it seems this season is particularly quiet since it’s removal.

peaceful well maintained site

As seen in other reviews this site is great. Fully serviced and clean. Grass short with not awful cuttings! We had rain but the site is well drained so never got muddy. The pond has some wildlife as does the farm with goats and an alpaca sheep horses and a donkey and hidden behind the pond two small pigs, but we never smelt them. Lots to see and do in the area both inland and at the coast even if it rains!! Our only niddle was you have to pay on top for electric. having said that we used very little as it was summer and used the gas even then when the metre was read it worked out at a little over £2.00 per day. Would stay again if in this area but be aware of the extra cost.

Fantastic well maintained site

We’ve just spent a week at Hallsdown farm. What a lovely CL. Everything was perfect and well kept. The views were amazing. So many places to see and do within a short distance. The owner Andrew was very friendly and approachable. We will definitely be revisiting this CL very soon.

Well Organised Great Site

This is an excellent CL with serviced hardstanding pitches. Everything you need, water, emptying, recycling all easily accessible and well arranged. There is plenty of entertainment from the variety of animals especially the goats and alpaca which are kept as pets. Wonderful views and easy access to local spots. Those people who complain about the facilities should, perhaps, check the details of the CL more closely before booking. We all have on-board bathrooms so what more do you need? CLs traditionally only used to provide water and emptying which is all we want.

A bit of a mixed bag

On the positve side the pitches are level hardstanding with individual electricity water and grey water and the site is easy to access and convenient for visiting local attractions. On the negative side there is little outlook and the pond was impossible to see unless standing next to it. The toilet facilities are extremely poor. The glazing bars of what looks like an old wooden summerhouse are falling off, the wallboard has failed and is parting company with the wooden shed with large amounts of mastic trying to fill the gaps. The toilet door- an old internal door has a large gap next to the lock and requires stuffing with toilet paper to ensure privicy and finally the toilet rolls are ends of partly used rolls which presumably have come from the other site. It was one of the worst CL toilets we have encountered. Finally on booking we received an email advising that we needed to use green Elsan and I immediately ordered it to take with us. We paid in advance and had another email confirming receipt of the money and advising us again we needed green Elsan. We arrived and hadn't even unhitched when someone ran across the field to 'welcome' us reminding us we needed to use green Elsan. I can only think there is a problem with the septic tank as we didn't need to be reminded three times.

Just perfect

As others have stated, easy site to access along a very quiet lane, stayed 5 nights and only encountered 3 vehicles as we were going to and from the CL over that period. If peace and quiet is what you seek, then look no further, the only noise we heard was beautiful bird song. Wildlife is plentiful and kept us entertained watching ducks, rabbits, goats and a variety of wild birds (not forgetting the donkey, ponies and pig). The fully serviced pitch's are of a generous size and level, so no blocks needed. I have no hesitation in recommending this CL and we hope to return in the near future.

A nice peaceful site

This review should have been written early in the year but so busy forgot to write it. We were there in the winter and apart from having our wing mirror smashed of our car by a crazy driver we had a great time.. Unfortunately we did not see any of the animals apart from a large pig, assume they were inthe barns for the winter. The site is in lovely area with lots of picturesque places to visit nearby.. Pitches are very good with full facilities on each pitch. A very good farm shop just down the road.Faarmers wife very pleasant, greeted us on arrival and gave us the run-down of the cl. Would definitely return if in the areabut would prefer to come in the summer as most of the 14 nights the weather was very misty and damp.

Great site

Our second visit to this peaceful and well maintained site with spacious fully serviced pitches. Great views towards Exmoor and Dartmoor with lots wildlife in addition to the farm animals. Ideal base for walking and cycling, with Arlington Court and Wistlandpound Reservoir in easy reach. Besshill farm shop is well worth a visit for good food and friendly service.

first time in devon

we received info ref not to follow sat nav, which was useful, narrow lanes etc. we were greeted by claire who pointed out the facilities. andrew was always knocking around doing his cleaning regime or cutting the grass etc, feeding the animals, we chose next to end pitch and the views were lovely. there were animals around the farm also chickens and ducks. very quaint and peaceful. the facilities were, to be honest, on a CL site, in my opinion POOR, ok there was a toilet, a handwash basin, albeit in a shed, a toilet(literally) for emptying cassettes, and ample bins for waste. had we known of the "other " field we would have booked that instead. the "other" field had very superior facilities opposed to the CL site.

5 Stars

Easy to find and navigate to. Lovely well maintained, peaceful site with great views (we were lucky to be on the end which definitely had the best). Short but efficient welcome (I don't need anything more). Clean toilet, bin area, waste. Easy travel to local areas. For most of our 4 night stay the weather was wet and windy so spent in the caravan. However, with the views, farm goats, larma, sheep and birds to watch the time went by. Most important for us was to have peace and tranquility. We got that - I think I might have counted 10 cars go by all day and the nights were just soundless - bliss. Farm shop 1/2 mile away is well worth a visit too. Just one cautionary, like I said, we were on the end pitch and I only had a 6m water hose and the tap was at least 10m away so needed to fill AR manually - no big deal and I'm now the proud owner of a 15m hose!!
