Just Perfect For Us Really ....

On arrival the owner was around but it wouldn't have mattered had she not been because she has it very well organised. She let us know when we booked to look out for the bird table by the CL entrance gate, to what we believe was once an orchard, running adjacent to her house. In the bird table was our booking form, sealed in a bag, in our name, clearly telling us which pitch and a telephone number to call the owner if needed. The owner also has a map drawn on the back of the booking form showing where to find the fresh water, waste water, toilet emptying point and there are clear instructions there about waste, recycling etc. The owner leaves you in peace on site but will have a chat if she sees you around. It's about a 1 mile pleasant walk on a country lane from the site to two pubs in the village of Harome. Helmsley is just a short drive away, where there are pubs, shops, cafes and a fish and chip shop. We recommend this site and hope to go back one day.

A wonderful spot

Harome Heads Farm is situated in the midst of some stunning N Yorks countryside. We used the site to visit nearby Rievaulx Abbey and as a base for walks. Helmsley and nearby villages are very attractive and we would have visited them if the cafes, etc, were fully open. The site is also attractive with grass ‘pitches’ in a small field with trees. (If it was wet, then I’d anticipate some difficulty in leaving). We had to find our way around the site to find for ourselves water point and Elsan Point (in adjacent field) as the owner was not around. Indeed we only saw her in passing, although she was available by phone, etc, prior to our arrival and departure to wish us well. Payment is made by BAC. There is no grey water disposal. Overall, a good experience in reasonable and dry weather.

Great CL

This was our second visit this year but only for four days as it was booked the rest of the week. It is a well appointed and quiet site in the old orchard. The only noise was the apples falling off the trees onto the Barn roof,! Andrea is very helpful and pleasant. It is an ideal base for visiting the North York Moors, The coast, Sutton Bank and there is a lot to do around Helmsley. If you want a good woodland and river walk then Duncombe Park, not including the Birds if Prey Centre is just £1 per person. We will certainly go back as there us so much more to discover from site.

Fabulous and peaceful CL

This was our first time on a CL, and in only the second weekend since campsites opened up again after lockdown. What a fantastic site! Easy to get to (though avoid Sutton Bank if arriving by caravan, our VW camper made it up just!), accessible to nearby Helmsley, but so quiet and peaceful. At night we could only hear the wildlife! We took our bikes and used the site as a base for some local riding. Great off road routes minutes from the site! Definitely converts to CLs, a brilliant first experience!

April 2019

Spent a fantastic week at the start of April. Echo the previous comments; peace and tranquility, nice views, great location for local attractions and a trip to the coast. Lane up from the A170 is a bit narrow but we only met one oncoming vehicle all week, and there are places to pass. Andrea was friendly and welcoming. Our four small, geriatric dogs certainly enjoyed the sedate pace of life! We all had a nice stroll down the lane adjacent to the entrance. Helmsley is a lovely town, and we recommend a trip to Wharram Percy, deserted medieval village, just the other side of Malton. Good forest walks and views on the Helmsley to Stokesley road, handy when visiting Rievaulx Abbey. Would certainly mark it down as a CL to use again.

May 2017 stay

Recently returned from 6 night stay here, best to follow recommended route and turn off the A170 and follow the lane, there are a few places to pass but care is needed nearer the site with a blind bend in the road. The site has been established around 30 years, with lush grass and very level! It's sited in the old farm orchard with some remaining apple trees and surrounded by other trees which form a useful wind break or sun shade as the site is on the top of a hill with great views and ample room for 5 vans. The owner is very welcoming and helpful pointing out all the facilities; there is a unisex toilet in the nearby farm building with great TV and phone reception. This is a very peaceful spot with walks from the site and plenty of walking nearby; we really enjoyed the circular walk from Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey. There is much to do in the area: Castle Howard isn't far away and Nunnington Hall is worth a visit. Will certainly return.

Heaven in Yorkshire

Just spent 16 nights on this lovely cl just outside Helmsley. Couldn't fault it. The weather was a bit hit and miss which you can expect in this country. lovely and quiet especially at night. Mr and Mrs Strickland and family are lovely. We met some lovely friendly people on the cl over the 16 nights we were there.

What a Find

This is a much under rated site. We have just had 4 days there and everything about it was perfect for us. Located only 2 or 3 miles from Helmsley it sits up and away from the main road overlooking fabulous scenery with a village and pub only a short walk or drive away. Its perfect for visiting most of historic sites in North Yorkshire as well as giving easy access to some fabulous moorlands on quiet roads. The country side around has many splendid walks and site benefits from sun to most caravans nearly all day, and the sunsets are fabulous. If you want a tranquil place to relax and unwind this is the place to go.

Very nice rural site

The welcome here was very helpful but I have only given it four ticks as it is also ease of arrival and the last three quarters of a mile is single track so a bit hair raising if you meet anything. The site is a very level orchard with views through the gaps in the hedge and fence out over farmland. There were no outward signs of farming taking place and the whole site was tranquil. One of my favourite events was watching the pheasant come each evening to fly up into the apple tree to roost and each night we heard owls. There are several bird boxes in the trees. The farm house is right next to the site with the water and waste and the elsan emptying point a little further away in a field. The toilet is also at the farm without hand washing facilities. I imagine that it is picturesque in spring with the fruit trees in blossom but we had the downside of apples all over the grass in October. Only two miles from Helmsley and three quarters of a mile from an excellent farm shop, this makes an excellent site for anyone who wants rural.
