Quiet but small

Site was situated in lovely countryside near Grantham canal. It was mainly peaceful apart from local small airfield with light aircraft. It was rather small and we felt a bit close to other site users. Saying that everyone was very quiet and pleasant. Basic site with info hut and usual water, elsan, and EHU. Would stay again.

Lovely CL

CL is as described, directions very clear and signage also. Pitch positions not very clear and all ehu points are on one side which could make it crowded. Generally very quiet except for light aircraft from the local airfield. We didn't see owners but used the envelope system to pay. Bus stop at end of drive but also for caravanners there is a park and ride behind the restaurant down the road. Called a pocket P and R. Buses every 20 mins into Nottingham and West Bridgford. Motorhomers might find the track quite a walk to the bus, about half a mile. (The P and R is height restricted.) Lots to do in area. A word of warning on leaving the site. The gate is wide but the lane is narrow and with the hedge well grown we found it difficlt getting our outfit out. I had to reverse twice. Next time I will tow the unit to the gate, detach and motor mover through gate. We will certainly use again.

Basic CL in peaceful location.

Stayed on this CL after a period of exceptionally wet weather, but thankfully the hard standing area was large enough for us to "share" with 2 other outfits. We didn't meet the owners, but found the payment envelopes in the shed, thank you. The site is level and well maintained, access to the pubs in Cotgrave is easy (The Rose & Crown was very welcoming and served excellent food). The National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierre Pont is a short cycle ride away (1 hr on foot). We hope to return soon.

Wedding preparations!

We arrived out of the blue to find a huge marquee in the field and preparations in progress for a wedding at the weekend, so we started to drive away, but the friendly owner waylaid us and said we'd be fine there for one night. He came and made sure we had everything we wanted in an adjacent field. It was a nice level, grassy field, with pleasant views, and we had electricity and access to water etc. And of course our evening's entertainment was watching the continuing preparations: the beautiful flowers arriving (the groom's mother is a florist), and all the drink, too. A young man had to spend the night in a minibus guarding it all! The icing on the cake (as it were) was that the groom's father took us into the marquee, which was all beautifully laid out and decorated. It looked wonderful! What a lucky couple! All the very best to them! (I think this would be a very pleasant, well-organised site to stay at in normal circumstances, and very near the Geological Walk at the British Geological Society, which is well worth a visit.)

Peaceful

We have stayed on this site several times over the last couple of years, (Handy for relatives in the area) Access is easy off the good local roads leading to major trunk routes. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area. The owners are very nice and helpful. Would recommend this site for weekend and longer stays. Great for young children (love the animals).Great bar food just down the road at The Shepherd.

Weekend Retreat

We were attending a local geocaching event and this site saved us the hassle of traveling across Nottingham each day. Site is well maintened and has envolopes in the cabin to fill out and put your payment in so you are not running around searchingfor the owner or worse still disturbing them when they have made the place so welcoming. As soon as we arrived a cheerful gent came around to check we had all we needed and after a short chat he left us to get sorted. The rest of the weekend saw us with just sheep and the usual wildlife for company. Great site, so peaceful yet excellent road links to get you into Nottingham in minutes.

Nice CL

I stayed at this CL Aug 2015 for a few days, was surprised how popular it was but I can see why. It is in a nice little spot, close to major roads but you feel like you are miles from anything. The field is nicely mown and level, access easy and an envelope system so you can post your site fees without having to go look for the farmer. I only used the site as a base while I visited family but enjoyed the walks straight from the site along the disused canal. Very nice.

Peaceful, out of the way site. Good value at £10 per night!

Very quiet site adjacent to a farm.  Very rural and peaceful.  Site quite basic but adequate. Two hard standings and three placements on grass.  Small hut contains mainly old magazines and paperbacks for loan or exchange but not much information on the locality and attractions.  It must have gone downhill since other reviews were posted.  Didn't see the wardens at all during our 3 night stay!  We simply put our money in the envelope provided and posted it into the letterbox as directed.  Not a huge amount to do in the locality but some pleasant walks and good access to Nottingham.  Turn right at the bottom of the drive to get to the local village of Cotgrave which has at least two pubs. We only tried the Rose & Crown where we had a very good pub meal.  It is a dog friendly pub.  Alternatively you can turn left at the bottom of the drive and in about half a mile there is a typical Carvery pub if that's your thing.  We didn't try it so I can't comment. Overall this is an okay site; nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either particularly at a nightly rate of £10 including electric hook-up.

Nice pitch, excellent location and fantastic value

Great little cl with some hardstanding pitches, though we chose pitch up on the grass. Nice walk through the field to the canal, which itself is a lovely walk. All in all lovely relaxing cl site.
