Peaceful few days.

We have just spend a very peaceful three nights overlooking this beautiful countryside. Having just exchanged our campervan we needed somewhere fairly local to our home to make sure all was well with the new unit. As it was October we needed somewhere with electric and opted for Higher Elms as it was a reasonable price and seemed to be able to offer the peace and quiet we wanted, and it certainly did that. The ground was slightly sloping but not too much and so levelling blocks coped with that. It poured down one day but we were able to keep warm inside and appreciate the countryside around. The only downside is the Elsan emptying point which is down the lane toward the farm and not too accessible and could do with being in the camping field but maybe not possible to do this, but this is a minor point compared with the beauty and peace of the site. I'm sure we will revisit when we need another near-hand short break again.

Wonderful views

Excellent value for money, for amazing views and sunsets. Partly sloping good sized field for 5 caravans, all pitches have a fantastic view of the Weaver Valley. Electric hookup, grass cut regularly, fresh water in corner of field, along with one big biffa bin for all rubbish. The chemical toilet is a bit rural but absolutely fine, it's a raised covered drain about 150yrds down the lane behind the barn, wear sturdy shoes. We had a great week here, good local walks and bike rides and the site is right next to the canal with a narrow tow path. You don't see the canal from the site as its behind a hedge but you do hear the occasional boat chug by. It's a very quiet site with the occasional bit of tractor farm work, but this was only for short bursts of time. Amazing farm shop about 8 miles away "The Hollies in Little Budworth. Couple of nearby drive thru ice-cream farms "Snugburys" & "The Ice Cream Farm, Drumlan Hall". Highly recommend visiting "Cholmondeley Castle Gardens" and "Beeston Castle".

Very good farm CL, great location

We stopped here over the Easter weekend and the weather was hot and sunny. Its easy to find and right next to the canal. There are great views over the Cheshire country side facing west so we had full sun right until sunset. The local pub is only 15 minutes walk away and serves good beer, good food with great service. As farm CL's go it was nearly perfect for a weekend break at a reasonable price. The only thing I would add is the access to the toilet empting point could be improved with a couple of tonnes of hard-core and a post for the tap. This is however a minor point and we would certainly like to return.

Absolutely lovely

We stayed here to allow us to visit someone in Leighton Hospital, which is really close by. Access is good and the road well maintained. When we arrived, there was nobody around to welcome us, but we were told that we could pitch anywhere in the camping field. We were the only ones there, so we picked a lovely spot with a belting view. The site has a gentle slope, but ramps can deal with that. We found the site well maintained and the grass had been recently cut. I don't like grass too closely cut, like a billiard table and this was just right. We had a storm during our stay and the ground drained really quickly. There is a small gate giving access to the canal, and we enjoyed a nice walk along the towpath, which actually could have done with a bit of a cut as the grass was long and wet. Obviously this has nothing to do with the site. What more can I say? We loved our stay and have booked to go back this weekend

Lovely quiet site

We stayed for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Friendly but unobtrusive owners, easy access and stunning countryside views. The site is also very quiet, no road noise at all and only the occasional canal boat passing or farm vehicle which is only to be expected on a working farm. Access straight on to canal towpath was excellent for us with 2 dogs. TV reception was very good. The site is slightly sloping but it is only slight. The only small drawback was the grass could have done with a cut. On the whole one of the nicest CL's we've stayed on and will definitely book again when we are in the area. We can also thoroughly recommend the ice cream sold in the farm shop!

Pros: easy access, plenty of space, pleasant view, handy for canal Cons: access to chemical emptying point

Access was easy off the minor Cross Lane into farm drive which is good quality tarmac all the way to the CL. The junction is wide so plenty of space to turn in. When approaching from the east the junction is very soon after the canal bridge. Cross Lane is busy for a minor road though you can’t hear it from the CL. The CL field is slightly sloping with views: you get a glimpse of Beeston Castle 8 miles away. The CL is immediately adjacent to the canal and is screened from the canal by a large hedge. Boats occasionally moor up adjacent to the CL which you can hear but can’t see because of the hedge. There’s a gate for CL users to access the towpath about 80 yards back down the farm drive. There’s a second gate to the towpath through the farmhouse garden. The chemical emptying point is 100 yards from the CL behind one of the farm buildings. The emptying point access path had been strimmed but could have done with a bit more work. Bins are in the yard. It’s a working farm so machinery and occasionally livestock are moved along the farm road adjacent to the CL. It’s a really pleasant CL which we’d be happy to visit again.

Not a great experience

We had booked the site for 3 nights but left after 2. The grass had not been cut in fact it looked like the grass had not been cut for a while. The water tap was accessible but there was no clue as to where the toilet disposal point was and what to do with our rubbish. We ended up bringing the rubbish home. Due to the rain the grass just got too much to walk through. It would be so simple to solve the issue of what to do if there was a notice printed and posted by the water tap. We didn't notice the caravan club CL sign anywhere.
