Disappointed

As we were in Melton Mowbrary, we visited this site with a view to having it on our list of local sites for a quick weekend away. So glad we visited before we booked. As the previous review indicates, the car park has been extended into the caravan pitches with 1 and 2 no longer there. There is no fence between the car park and pitches 3, 4 and 5 so you could have a car parked next to your caravan. The car park is quite big and on a Monday morning at lunch time, was very busy so we didn't go into the farm shop. Overall disappointed that the CL site wasn't further away so that we could enjoy the farm shop at a distance without having to drive through the busy car park and run the risk of getting blocked in.

Definitely not as advertised

This site description is very out of date. Firstly, the shop car park has been extended to cover what were pitches 1 and 2, so the remaining 3 pitches are effectively sited in a very busy car park, and not a nice grass field as shown in the photo (and indeed on Google Maps). The price is ÂŁ18 and apparently has been for a couple of years. There are toilets, but only accessible when the shop is open, i.e. not after 4:30 in the afternoon. The next step, I assume, is for the owner to lose all interest in the CL, but in the meantime he should have the courtesy to update the website so people know what they are getting for their money!

It’s £18

Rang site gentleman quite brisk not wanting engage in conversation ,ok, maybe busy farm shop. Arrival queue in restaurant to pay surprised £18 but has electric , although says wc it is 8.30 until 4.30 when cafe and shop open, pitched up fine not bothered a few cars parked not intrusive, owner turns up with instructions if you go out after 4.30 the do and donts with gate and security as if you get it wrong he has to come back, asked way town and we could see water and waste but not a particularly friendly chap. Cafe really nice farm shop very good, overall all kept well maybe improve the people skills didn’t feel very welcome.

A great cl site!

A beautiful cl site with countryside views. Lovely cafe with delicious food and well stocked farm shop. Cafe staff lovely and helpful. A few of the staff park their cars on gravel way below the grass pitches but was not a problem to us. After 4.30 we had the site to ourselves. Good clean toilets. Enjoyed watching all the farm animals. First class CL site!

Lovely well maintained site

Difficult review as we loved this site and the owner is friendly and the field extremely well maintained, a lovely toilet, shop and cafe on site. However what we didn't like was that the CL field is also used as an overflow car park for the shop and cafe, and most of the staff park in it, so there are cars coming and going all day between 8:30 and 4 and it feels a little insecure as people wander from their cars to look around the caravans, etc. That also means the beautiful view often overlooks a line of parked cars. Negatives aside it's well priced, great views and fantastic walks, a very friendly owner and the cafe and shop that cause the car parking problem are absolutely first rate with great cooked food and lovely local produce in the shop. In our opinion the only thing to change to make this perfect is to stop the CL field doubling as a car park. Although being busy after this last year it is understandable the owner wants to maximise his business options. A hard one to judge, but as a CL user we didn't like that aspect.

An absolute gem of a site

We stayed here for 2 nights and will definitely return. The owner is really friendly and came over to welcome us and see that we were happy. The site has ample pitches all overlooking a beautiful valley. There is also a farm shop stocked with lovely fresh local produce including craft beers, bread, milk, meat and cheeses. There is also a wonderful cafe with undercover and outside tables where you can have breakfast, lunch or a coffee and some homemade cake while looking out to the sheep, goats & ponies. Just 1.7 miles from the town center this is a great place to stop over or to check out the local area.

Nice Site

Just spent 10 days at this site lovely owner Martin welcomed us and told us to set up at any empty pitch in any direction we preferred. Good farm shop and cafe on site for essentials, it rained a lot but site drained really well and had no problems getting off site when it was time to leave. Water and Chemical disposal first class. conclusion, a great CL.

Martins Masterpiece

This is our 1st visit and not our last! The site is easy to find and no problems getting on to the allocated pitches. The site is large and has a slight slope with all the basic disposal facilities that are immaculate and well signed posted. The views are good and has sheep in the fields that look very well maintained. There is a café on site with a wonderful farm shop that is well stocked . Martin and his staff are very welcoming and helpful. There are toilets that can be used by campers next to the farm shop. The shop is popular and busy but not noisy for the campers.Melton Mowbray is within walking distance(20 min) and there are some walks from the site. Thanks to Martin and Staff for a great weekend. Ray and Grace

Lovely site with excellent cafe and farm shop

This site is beautifully maintained and is very easy to access. It has nice views across the valley and dogs can be walked from the site. It is very quiet, even when the adjacent farm shop and cafe is open. Although we did not eat there, the menu looks good and it is obviously very popular with local people. The shop has a good range of bread, vegetables and meat including lamb from the farm. Martin, the owner, is very welcoming and helpful. We will happily return next time we visit the area.
