Could be Better

Elizabeth welcomed us with a printout of rules and strict instructions about where to leave the rubbish etc. Our pitch had mains water, electricity but no grey water drain. The mobile signal is not great and there is NO WIFI. The Country view is nice with Wind Generators in the distance. The grass cuttings meant that grass is often brought into the Caravan. Overall I would say stay here, but take into account that it not as modern as some CL's. It is also a working Farm where Sheep can attract flies!

Friendly quiet location

We had a very good welcome from Elizabeth. This is a good basic site with toilet and Shower. It is extremely spacious which means you need to be near the toilet/shower/bins at one end or the grey/toilet waste at the other. Being on pitch 3 we were in the middle. The lane at the back of the pitches is hardly used, you may hear an occasional tractor. Coming out of the lane is a challenge as visibility isn't great, but a bit of common sense will see you good. Use the recommended route and don't follow the satnav, although we would approach on A399 if coming from the north. Grass is cut although not collected, we have brought back half a lawn. Best of all my concern was a notice in the toilet which suggested that you may need pulling out, daunting for what was a dreadful week of weather, however, the grass did not rip up. I would certainly recommend the site to others - our 8 days in the height of summer and it never had the full 5 vans - so definitely quiet.

Nice site, room for improvement facilities wise

This was a nice site located in a great part of North Devon with easy access to beaches and countryside (do follow directions from site owner rather than sat nav). Pitches are wide and well spaced and back on to a really quiet lane so a very peaceful stay. Toilet & shower were in farm building a short walk from pitch, facilities were only just adequate and could be improved with more frequent cleaning/attention. Quite a lot of rules & regulations to follow.

Scenic and central

Just spent six nights with Elizabeth and Robin on their well-managed farm and CL. Pitches are wide enough to maintain privacy and close enough to be neighbourly. Elizabeth was very welcoming and concerned that you knew where everything was and that you had sufficient information to enjoy your stay. Centery Lane benefits from 360 far views and Exmoor is a short drive (or long one, depending on where you want to visit) with all of the north Devon coastal resort towns within an easy drive. We had lovely weather and a lovely time on this lovely working farm. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Complete Relaxation. Brilliant!

A superb and well sited working farm cl site. The owner, Elizabeth and son Robin made us very welcome on arrival and was instrumental on making our 7 night stay very enjoyable - that is apart from the sheep - who kept us entertained in one way or another throughout the week! The shower and toilets are kept in an immaculate, clean condition and all pitches have EHU and drinking water taps close by. We will be back very soon to enjoy the farm, family and lovely quiet surroundings. And don’t forget - the site is close to lots of superb locations around North Devon. Enjoy!!

The best CL in North Devon

As a family we love North Devon, we have holidayed here for the past 50 years, the last 10 years we have caravanned at Hillcrest Farm because it is the best. The quiet, the views, the pitches are so far apart it feels like you are pitched on your own. The grass is always mowed and kept tidy, the two on site toilets and shower block are spotless. Elizabeth always is welcoming and very helpful and the location allows easy access to Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and of course the Blue Flag beach of Woolacombe. This truly is a perfect CL, look no further.

Fantastic & welcoming site

This is the best cl site we have ever been to. Brilliant location, easy to access if you use the excellent directions in the handbook, on the Internet or given by Elizabeth. Lovely & peaceful site & area, excellent space in field with super views. Excellent, spotlessly clean toilet & shower facilities. Very friendly & helpful farming family to make a perfect holiday stay. There are lots of lovely walks in the area for our dog to also enjoy the holiday. We will definitely keep on returning year after year as often as we can.

Hillcrest Farm CL

Easy enough drive down the single track road to the farm entrance, but care is needed when coming back onto the A3123 as you are near to a bend. Nice welcome from the owner who greets you on arrival, but we saw no one else after. Very large site with ample room for all & pleasant views of the lambs in the field in front & Exmoor in the distance. We were on our own from Monday onwards so very quiet ...but very windy, as is the case on most sites on West Down. The shower & toilet looked clean & more than useable (we didn't) & the CDP was in the far left corner, so as mentioned quite a trek to empty the bins at one end & toilet the other. Taps on most pitches though. Facing the view you got sun in the morning but if close to the hedge you didn't get it on the awning in the evening. Visited this area many times now & still love it around here & as mentioned you can reach everywhere from here quite easily. I would recommend this site ...but .. the strong wind all week as it was last time on the Club site down the road .... can be a negative.

a peaceful stay

Have recently spent 4 nights at this lovely CL. Lots of space and so peaceful but within easy reach of many places of interest. Clean, warm shower and 2 toilets a bit of a distance from the caravan field but numerous water taps located close to all pitches. Greeted to the site by Elizabeth and shown around and she called on our day of departure to say goodbye. These personal touches were appreciated. We would not hesitate to book again if staying in the area.

A Fabulous CL site!

We arrived in absolutely dreadful weather (about midday) but Elizabeth donned her waterproof and wellies and met us the minute she spotted our van turn in to the field (the headlights must have been a bit of a giveaway) We were given a warm welcome and a brief introduction to where the loo, shower and recycling bins were; we were offered the choice of pitches and then left to get on with it. The pitches are really well spaced out and most had their own water pipe as far as we could tell. (we certainly did so no long trips across the field to fill up!) The chemical and waste water was situated right at the entrance so a bit of a trek with those each time, but not a problem for us. As we have two dogs - one needing a lot of exercise and the other very old - the field was ideal and Elizabeth, being a dog lover herself, understood the need for us to let our collie run after her ball in the field and the other to just pootle - under our supervision of course. As a previous member mentioned, the loos and shower are a bit of a trek (if you are elderly or disabled)but the tranquility, views and space offered on this site really outweigh those small issues! We would definitely recommend this site and will be booking again next year.
