New Forest Bliss

Our first visit to this site and I hope it will not be our last. The welcome was friendly and the site cleaned every day. Hard standings were a bonus. There was some noise one day from the nearby rented out units ( someone using a wood sander) but generally it was very peaceful. If you are a keen walker you do have to walk 250 yards on a busy pathless country road until you reach the bridal way. There is a large grass field where the children can play safely and as my dog did sniff out the moles. All in all well worth a visit.

Peace and Quiet

On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome from the owner. Site nice and level very neat and clean. Pitches well spaced apart with water easily accessible. There is a ladies and gents toilet with a separate shower in between. We don't usually use the showers but my husband did on one occasion and he was in for a shock because even after putting the requested 20p in the meter the water ran out after about two minutes and even another 20p could not start it again, hence a cold and wet husband returning to the van to finish his shower. Even with the problem with the shower we would visit again as we had the best nights sleep for a long time as the site is so peaceful and quiet. There is a bus stop about five minutes walk from the site, but no bus service on Sundays or Bank Holidays. There are well sign posted foot paths from the site, Garage, Shop, Chinese within a mile left out of site.

Great for families and dogs

Our first visit was great and it won't be our last. It may not be the most tranquil site, as it is part of a commercial/industrial unit, but it is spacious, clean and functional. The playfield is much appreciated for ball games and dog walks. The pitches are well spaced and the hard standing is great when the weather has been unkind. The location is ideal as a base for exploring the new forest and coastal areas. We were made most welcome by Stuart who was efficient and friendly. He answers emails promptly and was always on hand.

Another good stay

Wilbur must have stayed at a different site. We have been using this site for a few years now. Owner welcoming as usual. Site quite, yes there maybe some vans using the unit next door, but they are in and out and don't bother anyone on site. Site always well looked after and clean. Handy for both the forest and the coast. and I know a lot use it as an overnight halt for the ferries (Isle of White and the Continent). We have already booked for next year.

Great find!

The CL offers more than most, with a friendly owner. There is plenty of room for each pitch and more than adequate facilities, along with a superb area for the children to play in away from the caravans. The site is quiet and away from the main road. There are a couple of light industrial units on the approach by they cause no disturbance. Yes the shower and toilet block is basic, but it serves a a purpose, the owner would like to renew it in due course. We would highly recommend the site and will be back soon!!

Also have to disagree with Wilbur!

We were also concerned after reading Wilburs review - did he stay on the same site? We used the site as a 2 night stop over, there and back to I.O.W. and we will definitely return to the site for a longer stay. Stuart was on holiday on our 1st visit, but 2 traffic cones with our names on denoted the pitches!.Met him on our return - great guy. Facilities dated but very clean - we used the shower in our van-nothing wrong with the site shower but we tend to use our own wherever we are. Hard standing with plenty of room between pitches, grass cut regularly, absolutely nothing to complain about. Lovely to hear the owl hooting overnight. No noise that bothered us and certainly no traffic racing up and down. A lovely site and worth a visit.

Nice site

Just returned from 4 nights. Only our 2nd ever trip away in our caravan. Having read Wilburs review I would have to disagree with pretty much all of it. My wife and I took our 2 daughters and niece (all beneath the age of 6). Stuart was only ever friendly and welcoming throughout. Each morning he said hello, long enough to raise any issues (which we didnt have) but by no way imposing. The site is level and well kept. Directly next to the caravans is a playing field for the children .It is fenced off and mowed. We found this to be ideal, as our children played for hours. As for noise, we were in bed for 9pm every night and never heard a peep from anyone. Admittedly the showers and toilets are dated, but always kept clean. I understand Stuart would like to update these, but having difficulty due to planning regs. Never more than 3 vans, no heavy traffic and no hammering heard. (we were the end pitch by the way, next to said workshop and busy road)

Definitely a CL worthy of several stars!

We have just returned from this CL having booked it at short notice. Initially I was concerned by the review of "Wilbur" but my concerns were unfounded. The site is easy to find and very quiet. There was a little noise from the workshops but having seen the bigger sites in the forest on our journey this was preferable to the noise we KNOW happens on them! It stopped not long after our arrival anyway (about 4pm). I think we only saw two vehicles use the drive that were not using the site so am a little unsure regarding the "heavy traffic". As with "Fred Perry's" visit there were no more than 5 units on site whilst we were there. Although not actually in the New Forest National Park it was easy to get to and the lovely coastline.....we walked the spit to Hurst Castle and followed this with a boat ride back to a well earned lunch at the Gun Inn. The facilities were cleaned throughout our stay and basic like many CL's as we have experienced, this is in no way is a criticism though. The owner was friendly and took on board my one concern regarding an issue with the shower when we stayed. My understanding is that our reviews go straight on this site without the owner having a chance to try and rectify any issues, especially if these are not brought to their attention during the visit. This leaves them open to negative reviews which may impact on their business, the worst case scenario being that owners may not continue to provide the wonderful service that most of them do. Long term this could mean less CL's. The Caravan Club would do well to change this system so that the reviews are checked before publishing and issues sorted out before they reach the public domain. After all we are all very quick to complain and not always forthcoming when praise is due.
