Beautiful Yorkshire Farm Site

We have just arrived home from spending 5 days in the Yorkshire Dales and having Hurries Farm as our base. It is a beautiful location on a traditional working farm with a pedigree herd of cows and a Reir in the fields. David and Wendy gave us a very warm welcome and lots of advice on where to visit. We visited Malham Show, Kettlewell, Grassington, Settle, and Hawes. I was so pleased to see a sturdy hose pipe on the water taps so you did not get wet from the spray. It is a beautiful place, with beautiful people. What more could we say? We hope to visit again.

Just what a CL should be

This remote CL is nestled deep in the Malhamdale farming countryside. David and Wendy are kind hosts, and being included in some of the farm activities including viewing his sheepdogs at work, and his pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle was a privilege. The site is not trim and perfect, but isn’t that a pleasure after some of the overly fussy regulations on some sites? Waste disposal is basic, but who cares when there’s a barn owl watching you. Eggs are available. It is a ‘dark’ site so watching the night sky is a joy. You need to take care on the narrow approach roads - they are all nearly single track with passing places in the Dales area, but it is doable with care. Possibly be wary of the road from Airton to Settle because of gradients. Also stone pillars on entrance to CL field - wing mirrors in, although a Carthago with higher mirrors visited and was fine. A lovely site.

peaceful site

A lovely peaceful site, on arriving our sat nav wanted to take us further to helifield, but we followed the farmers instructions and turned off at Gargrave, where we met all the day visitors from Malham Cove, it is a narrow road and a looked at us thinking why are you hear with a caravan, some of them sat & looked at us expecting us to reverse with a caravan, when we come home we went to Helifield it was shorter and easier. As for the rest it was a lovely site, lovely places to visit, nearby you can watch the boats open the lick gates, David the owner was friendly, so reviews say no water near the C.D.P. but David told us their was a tap in the barn opposite it don't feed tina one of his Dogs, my Wife gave her a bit of fish the day we arrived, so she kept sitting outside our caravan door

Peaceful stay at Hurries Farm

Just returned from a peaceful 3 night stay, where we were the only guests so had our pick of pitches. Pitches slightly slopping so would need levelling blocks or ramps. Views around the pitch really nice and for a working farm very quiet minimal noise. No road noise whatsoever. The area is definitely worth a visit. Our overall rating was 4 stars only because of the following, the electricity is 10 amps and as it was cold our heating needed to be on most of the time, therefore we had to manage the use of other electrical appliances due to it tripping out on several occasions, this might not be a problem in warmer weather when heating not essential. Also the toilet waste disposal is just a metal grid over a drain, there was no water nearby to clean the drain and flush the cassette.

Lovely place to stay

We booked to stay for a long weekend towards the end of September. Our car ‘died’ whilst towing, about 25 miles short of the site. It looked like we were in for a very long wait for repair or recovery, bless the owners, he offered to come and collect our ‘van and bring it to the site. Once we had arrived, and overcame our car problems, we had a lovely stay. The site is beautifully quiet and peaceful, the surrounding area is lovely, yet not too far away from places of interest. David took us on a tour of some of the working farm, demonstrating the working sheep dogs as we went round. It was all very interesting. He keeps some very good looking pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle too. Our stay seemed altogether too brief, we would have been happy to stay for longer. Thank you David and Wendy for your hospitality, and for the offers of help because of our ignominious arrival on site!

Our "Happy Place"

We've just returned from our 7th visit to Hurries Farm, it is one of our favourite CLs and has a special place in our hearts. We got a lovely warm welcome from Wendy and David and as always we had a great stay. This CL is exactly what a CL should be - a little piece of tranquillity in wonderful countryside away from the every day hustle and bustle. We are hoping to be back at Hurries Farm during lambing time this year, as we experienced it last year and loved every minute! Even if we don't get back then, we will definitely be back in the future.

Our Favourite CL in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales

We have been going to this site for over 20 years with both caravans and motorhomes. We have always found the owners to be accommodating and welcoming. Please remember that this is a working farm set in wonderful countryside. Our children have grown up now, but it was the one holiday that they really looked forward to 'Farmer Dave's" (and our other holidays were sailing and skiing so not bad!). We choose CL's to get away from it all and this is a definitely a place where you can relax with lovely pubs, farm shop and walks. You can purchase fresh eggs, Aberdeen Angus and lamb on site. It is an authentic piece of Yorkshire without the mod cons - just perfect!

OVERPRICED CL SITE WITH GREEDY ADD ONS

I went to the farm house to pay on the second day of our stay I was quoted £17 pitch fee plus £2 extra for motorhome as it was 7 meters long , it only used one pitch space like any other caravan or motorhome so why the extra charge? I was then asked to pay an extra £2 for my tow car when I questioned this and explained that my tow car was actually in the eyes of the law a trailer and no different to a car towing a caravan the lady owner accused me of being argumentative ,needless to say that at this point I decided to cut our 5 day stay short and just paid for the 2 days. So what were we getting for £21 Per Night A sloping pitch grassed over hardstand on a sloping field electric hook up that tripped out 4 times in 2 days usually if you put more than one appliance on at a time. No water taps in the field or any where near meaning motorhomes with on board water tanks have to put away there things ,drive off the levelling blocks unhook electric cable drive to the farm house fill up with water turn around drive back to pitch relevel and hook up . How hard would it be to put water taps close to the pitches or even on every pitch at these prices. The Elsan point is a joke with a metal lid covering a filthy hole with NO Water tap you have to take your toilet cassette into a nearby barn to put water in it then return to the elsan to empty it and repeat the process until the cassette is clean, once again how hard would it be to put a water tap where its meant to be. The site also boasts a drive over motorhome waste disposal point which we could not find on our way out which meant we had to carry our grey waste to the next site ,which by the way was £15 per night all in and much better. So come on owners of this CL site up your game or lower your prices and remove the greedy add ons.

Great people, experience and location

David and Wendy made our stay very special. It was the end of lambing season and we helped feed new born lambs and felt very much part of it. David took us out in his 'mule' (4x4) to feed his sheep one day and see the sheepdogs at work - very special memories. Did two walks (7-8miles) from the campsite and drove to Malham to do the classic Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss walk, but is possible to walk to Malham but adds about 7-8 miles to the walk. One toilet that was spotless, chemical disposal a bit basic but ok. 5 pitches all with views over the farm. Two Rhea birds in field next to site and lots of cows and sheep in fields. Just about got a mobile signal, no WiFi but elec hookup. Overall, we had a first class experience and can't rate David and Wendy high enough.

Peaceful friendly site

We just had a fabulous 2 days away on this site. 5 pitches on a working farm with a very friendly farmer who took the time to show us around. We even saw lambs being born. Woken to the sound of nothing but songbirds and the occasion moo from the cattle on site. Pitches spacious with electric hook up. No showers which did not matter to us but a very clean toilet. Site is very environmentally concious with recycling. Ideally located within easy reach of neighbouring villages and small towns. Will definitely be returning soon
