Overcrowded, overgrown, untidy, unwelcoming

We booked to stay for several nights and left early. The location of the site, within a short walk of the Humber and of Spurn, gives the site great potential. Sadly, no effort is put into maintaining the site. I have no problem with a place being a little unkempt: an unkempt site can allow space for birds, insects and other wildlife to share our space. A site where abandoned bottle tops are strewn on the ground and left for days is not one that encourages wildlife. This space is not so much unkempt as overgrown and overcrowded. There were seven units sharing a very small space at one point, with barely any space to manoeuvre our caravan in or out. The toilet block was not cleaned at any point in the several days we stayed. The same rubbish was sitting in the overflowing bin when we arrived, the same toilet rolls were lying on the floor. We never saw any sign of basic maintenance by site management or staff. Discarded plastic sits in one corner of the site. A cement mixer sits unused. Plastic buckets blow across the site. A sign stating “No pedestrians” stands at the site entrance. There is no pedestrian access to the site. This site is ignored by all, including the birdwatchers who freely walk through everyone’s pitches. There is a wonderful pub just round the corner. We would recommend this pub to anyone who stays at any of the other sites nearby. This site is to be avoided.

Jubilee weekend

Arrived Thursday afternoon for three nights, the site looked full but got the last pitch which was probably the best one, even though it didn’t look like a pitch. A great site if you want peace and quiet. Lots of great walks and fabulous scenery. A good pub within a 2 minute walk. We will definitely return.

Perfect Location

Stayed for the second time but just for one night. The site is next door to the pub but there is no problem with noise, as others have said there are no views on site as surrounded by trees, but I think this is due to it being a popular bird watching area & literally just outside site are amazing views across the Humber. All pitches have electric hook up & a gravel hard standing, warden is usually around if any problems. Didn’t use the toilet or shower so can’t comment on this. Perfect for the beach, Spurn Point & Humber walks, will definitely visit again

It suited our purposes, but...

This suited our purposes, hardstanding, electric hookup, and close to the Spurn peninsula. And the wonderful Crown & Anchor next door! This enabled us to do a great cycle ride from the site, and walk to The Point, with its fascinating war history and bird sanctuary. But mention of the toilets and showers should be removed from the description as they are disgusting, and should be demolished. The site would benefit too from having the foliage cut back, as it is obviously encroaching on the pitches. Also, only the first three are suitable for caravans with awnings, as the last two are small with room only for motor homes. The website needs updating as the price per night is now £15.

Good little site

Have just returned from a 3 night stay. The site is enclosed in trees but there is still plenty of light and is very quiet. Not sure about the facilities as the warden told us they were closed when we made the booking. We would definitely use this site again.

Does have potential

Stayed here for 2 nights. The site itself is in a perfect location. Very peaceful and no bother from the owners. Surrounded by woodland so no views but that was fine. The facilities let it down for me. They need a thorough clean (if not a new toilet block) as they look like they haven't been touched in years and were filthy. Thick with cobwebs everywhere and I hated going in them! This site has so much potential if given some TLC in areas

Perfect little site

as others have said, this is not the site too book if you want beautiful views from your van window, as you are surrounded by trees, but the minute you walk out of the gate you get fabulous views over the huber on one side, then a couple of minutes walk in the other direction is a fabulous beach walk, and then a walk upto spurn head. and just to top it all off, as you walk onto the beach you can see all the remains of the WW2 beach defences, great to teach the kids without just looking at it in a book. and just to top off how good this site is, next door to the site is a lovely little pub, The Crown and Anchor, great food, and the landlords are so friendly, and a gold mine of local information, and not ridiculously expensive like some out of the way pubs with such great views of the sunset. we cant wait to go back again.

Perfect location to visit Spurn Res. but a bit aged and narrow

Located roughly 25 miles east of Hull this site is run by a warden of the Nat.Res. Perfect for bird watching and walks to Spurn Res. But the site looks a little aged and shabby. Unisex toilet and shower in a container, hook-ups and hard standing on a narrow and somehow dark ground surrounded by trees and bushes behind a small bungalow. It‘s OK but we‘ve seen much better CL‘s...

Not the usual CL

Booked in at the last minute when we found the site we were hoping to stay at was water logged. Warden helpful and let me know in advance that there was rubble onsite due to ongoing work , which didn't bother us as only one on site so pitched well away from it. Not the tidiest of CLs , very basic facilities and hard standing not the place to come if you want landscaping or stunning views The location however is great and a simple walk across the road and you are on the pathway along the river to Spurn Head so lots of walking for dogs straight from site (although dogs not allowed into restricted areas at Spurn Head) Great if you are interested in birds. Left alone throughout stay , which is what we want , pub next door serving food from which we heard no noise. Only thing that did cause us concern was the courier driver that pulled in to use the facilities ... not what you would expect on a CL It is not your standard CL but worth a visit
