Great CL

This is my fourth time here staying for 1 week the first time and then 3 times staying for 2 weeks. This site is in a fantastic location for getting out and about to see Skye. We're keen walkers so the location is perfect for all the many hills including the mighty Cullins. Plenty of other places of interest round about including the nearby Talisker Distillery and a trip to Raasay is highly recommended. The site is an area of hardstanding raised above nearby roads. The road down Glenbrittle is now a busy one however probably 95% of traffic on this road are tourists, not much that the site or anyone else can do due to the increase in visitors following Covid. Other members have commented on the showers. The site is not required to provide this facility however my water pump has just failed so having these basic but very clean toilets and shower has saved my holiday, if they hadn't been there then I would have been heading home after 1 night! Each pitch has an electric hook up and it's own water tap and free WiFi. All this for £22 per night for the first 2 nights and £20 per night thereafter. The site was originally started by Willie (sadly no longer with us) and his wife Cathie, because he wanted to provide a service, he also took on the Post Office to keep it going. Their daughter Janette is trying to keep the site going, I hope she manages the time to do so. This is not an singing all dancing club site, this is an honest CL providing more facilities than is required.

met our needs

This site whilst not appealing to the eye met our every need, The toilets and shower block were well maintained and functional. We had ample space around our van and the view of the water was tranquil. It was a little difficult at first to find but being strangers to the area it is to be expected. Pitches are gravel and level, electric and water at each pitch. A short walk to the community shop and only 20 mins drive from portree.

Enjoyed our stay

Think the bad reviewers are over exaggerating!! We found it peaceful and very handy for visiting local places of interest. Our pitch didn't need ramps. Didn't see the owner but our pitch was marked and instructions were clear and straightforward. The toilets/shower are functional and clean but could be done with an upgrade. Overall enjoyed our stay

Much better than expected.

We had read previous reviews and were a little apprehensive, but booked anyway. We were met by the friendly owner and given a choice of pitches. We had a level pitch with good views. Not the poshest toilet block but all clean and useable. A nice little CL handy for the Isle and easy to access. We would stay here again.

Ignore negative reviews - great site

Ignore the negative reviews. It’s a CL site, so don’t expect showers, toilets etc. We have electric hook up, water at the hook up point, flat pitch and easy to find. And it cost us £25!!!!!!!! Also, it’s the only CL site on Skye. We’ve just watched 2 vans turn up, with no bookings, turned away as they’re not members and to be honest, from the state of the vans, we were grateful as they’re probably sat in a lay-by as I type! Location is brilliant! Less than a mile to the Talisker distillery, a local community shop, pub and sea food shack! The main road mentioned isn’t exactly busy! Remember - this isn’t Surrey, but the Isle of Skye!

Read the previous reviews. This should not be a CL site.

To be honest, the previous few reviews have summed up everything in one go. I wish we'd read them previous to booking. You may as well turn up and help yourself to the facilities as were everyone else. People know where to find the code for the toilet block and the site had comings and goings all the time we were there with people helping themselves and we suspected one motorhome was actually taking money for the grey water disposal from passing campers. We left early.

Shouldn’t be a Certified site

Please don’t waste your time going to this site. It shouldn’t be a Caravan club certified site. Where do you begin a review. Shower and toilet block very poor standard. Very clean however dated and in very very urgent need of attention. I think a strong rain shower is more powerful than the shower on offer. There was also no place to wash any dishes or that. During our stay the hot water for the taps was broke and due to be repaired. Onto the the “site”. It’s a lay-by with a toilet block and separate shower. I’ve been to better service stations. There is cars turning and using it as a lay-by. As per previous posts campervans turn up and use it whenever they wish for free and you have to pay for the privilege of staying at this fantastic site. There is also no real peace of mind that what ever You leave at this site will be there when you get back. There is no barriers, bollards or any type is security stopping any person from coming onto the site and helping themselves to your belongings. It is also not a working farm site. It sits at the entrance to a farm. The whole place which is not overly big says I’ve a spare bit of land at the bottom of the drive let’s charge people for staying there. We didn’t stay our full stay as it wasn’t good. Tainted our stay on a very beautiful part of Scotland. Spend your well hard earned money else where.

SHOULD THIS CL BE CERTIFICATED?

We were extremely disappointed when we arrived at this CL, which, as another reviewer has remarked recently, is no more than a rough car park on a fairly busy road junction. Skye is, of course, beautiful, but this is not a pleasant place to stay. There is no view of the loch from the 5 'certificated' pitches, the only pitch with a partial view being a 6th pitch immediately behind the others (the owner placed 'reserved for' name cards on the 'no through road' sign immediately next to this additional pitch, which was occupied throughout our stay). Indeed, on one evening there was a total of 8 caravans and motorhomes on the CL. The only contact we had with the owner was an email requesting payment on the day of arrival, and we saw a lady removing my name from the pitch and replacing it with someone else's, on the day we left. £20 per night for this? I am astonished that the CAMC considers this location suitable for certification and wonder whether it has ever been inspected by the club.

Not a site

Would not say this was a camp site. It’s a Gravelled car park on a couple of levels on a slope right at the side of a busy road, with a clanky cattle grid on the road. So not really peaceful until late at night. Pitches fairly level. Would recommend as an overnight stop only whilst exploring Skye as it is centrally located, Carbost village very close, as is Tallisker distillery and Fairy Pools 4 miles away. Most annoying thing for us was the constant cars pulling on and turning or camper vans turning up to free camp. We had one parked up practically on our pitch! Owner not around, pitches are marked with your name prior to arrival. We couldn't empty our grey waste from moho as drain was raised and we dont carry a waste hose. This place needs some attention to smarten it up and charge should be £15 a night at the most.

I couldn’t believe this!

We pulled onto this site and I couldn’t believe we’d paid £20 for a night on a very rough car park. Nobody around but there were signs on the electric posts with names on so you knew which pitch to use. Electric and water on each of the 5 pitches. We wouldn’t have stayed if we hadn’t paid in advance. There are lots of sites around which I’m sure would have been a lot nicer. I can’t believe the Caravan and Motorhome Club have this site on their system.
