We stayed here for a one night stopover to break up the journey, but would have liked to stay longer. This is a very well kept site on a PYO farm. There was surprisingly little noise and surprisingly good views given the proximity to the A1 and Peterborough.
Stopover
Stayed here for one night to break journey on return from France. Lovely well kept site, plenty of room even if there are 5 units on site. Very handy from A1. Good welcome from Paddy. Will definitely make use of this as regular stopover. Easy booking by e-mail.
.'A 3 NIGHT STAY'
An easy access off the A1 to the site, set well away from the main road.
A large flat field so plenty of room to pitch up. TV signal ok and also mobile phone signal worked well
Ferry meadows is not too far away, ideal for cycling, walking and plenty of geocaches, but car parking charges are in operation
We only stayed 3 nights as used as a stopping off place for visiting friends and would use this site again if in the area.
Great CL
A fantastic experience - our first CL and we loved it. Paddy was great with arrangements, the PYO fruit farm was a hit with the kids and site was easy to find and very accessible.
Lovely and friendly site.
CL site pitches were full so stayed on one of the four hard standing pitches near the farmhouse and shop. Not as attractive a location as the CL site field but quiet and peaceful. Level pitch. Toilets. EHU. Water. Waste disposal. Lovely farm shop and PYO fruit. Friendly owners.
Lovely location
Paddy was very helpful and what a lovely campsite had a brilliant weekend, easy access to Ferry Meadows on our bikes
Wonderful quiet and calm CL
We emailed Paddy to check availability on the CL and his response was lovely and quick. On arrival we phoned as the board says to let him know we were there and talked through when and where we could pay. The site is beautifully quiet with lots of birds around to watch and the grass is well maintained. We were told we could pitch anywhere that our hook up cable would reach, there are well spaced electric points all around the site. Water and waste were well sighned with hand sanitizer at the points.
Plums trees loaded with fruit are along one edge of the site and there was other fruit and veg on offer in the farm shop.
Walking the dogs was very easy as there are footpaths through the farm.
This will be a regular stop for us from now on, we can thoroughly recommend this site.
Unique place to visit!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. As it is still impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic the Pick your Own wasn't open, but you could buy fruits from the farm shop. Being near the fruit orchards was lovely and a peaceful stroll around the outside of the orchards (after asking permission) was a delight, the views are amazing. There are a few walks that are nearby, you need an OS map! The drive is steep but walking slowly it is manageable, the views are amazing as is the wild life. Highly recommend this CL! The field is well maintained with the grass kept short, plenty of space to choose a pitch, the facilities easy to use, and in these current times hand sanitiser available at the facilities plus Covid secure guidelines at the entrance.
mixed thoughts
Just arrived home having spent 3 nights on this CL can’t fault the site but we have a large motor home so wanted to use public transport. The site field is a good 10 to 15 minute walk to the road and involves negotiating a very steep driveway, so not one to walk if you struggle with hill climbs. Friday morning we went for the bus, bus route X4. Now it’s a bit complicated but the bus time table shows a half hour service, however the alternative bus (1 out of 2 ) travels a different route and does not go anywhere near the site. There is no mention of the alternative route in the bus time table. On the occasions we used the bus the buses were running late and we spent 90 minutes waiting on one occasion. Answer don’t rely on the bus service.
Excellent site, well worth a visit.
We have stayed on this site on a number of occasions, both in summer and in winter. The site is extremely close to Peterborough, less then 15 minutes to the city centre and the Cathedral, a short hop from the A1. But staying here, you could be in the middle of the countryside, so peaceful, no traffic noise, rabbits in abundance, varieties of birds. The site field is huge, lots of space available between caravans, high hedge protection from winds, the site is at the top of a hill, fabulous views over Peterborough.
Our most recent stay at Hill Farm was cut short as our elderly aunt was poorly and we needed to return home, the site owners could not have been more kind and understanding, very nice people. We will certainly be staying here again.
