Ease of arrival/welcome

Little gem

We stayed for 2 nights in October so that we could visit friends in Maryport. Booking over the phone was casual, so I had an idea what to expect on arrival. We were told how to get through the locked gates and found this to be perfectly straightforward. On arrival Anne was extremely friendly and helpful to us, advising on best location as the ground was quite soft. She also loaned us her bread boards to avoid sinking. The site is all grass set within the grounds of an old mansion where only part of the building remains. It is surrounded by trees and next to the Ellen river, both of which do an excellent job of masking any traffic noise. The site is a 5 minute walk to the centre of town, (we can highly recommend the lifeboat bar and restaurant for excellent pub grub and Her Citi for lunch or coffee and cake. Sluice could be indicated more clearly as it is tucked in behind the Lodge house which has nothing to do with the site. It’s not fancy, there are no signs with lots of rules, they clearly assume you will be sensible and know what you’re doing, which we rather like! Perfect location to meander round Maryport which has enough to offer the visitor a couple of days activities.
